Thank god i live in nor California no snow no salt Plus out here we are use to working on old schools so no problem working on my 996 c2

Do they not have FluidFilm (or similar, Waxoyl, whatever) in the UK? I get the salt air is unavoidable, but I seem to see a lot of rotten cars on YouTube without a hint of added corrosion protection So many sheep on those islands, you’d think lanolin would be more prevalent

For your reference, a complete coolant pipe replacement, soft and hard pipes, in a 987 Base was $4500 CAD at a good indy shop for me 2 years ago At about 100,00 Km's One owner car that had been driven in the snow and rain As in the video LCA's are next for me Likely refresh other suspension parts while they are in there But I love it and don't intend to sell it So my decisions are made considering that

First of all i think your title is misleading, as you claim to not buy a 997 In your video the first remark you make is that, regarding you, a lot happens by 80000-100000 mls I think you should mention that in the title brSecond, a SPORT car with 80000-100000 mls is quite a lot In my opinion you can not state not to buy a 997 in general It depends on how maintenance has been carried ( dealer or handyman)out and also depends how the car is driven and maintained by previous owners It’s not different from any other carbrThird, is that the 997 was born 2005, almost 20 years ago, so it’s possible that you get costs due to age, as all other cars of 20 years will havebrFourth; I hear a lot about expensive parts Hello, it’s a Porsche, not a VW beetle, so you know on forehand that parts will be more expensive when you own a PorschebrAlso a lot of footage regarding bore scoring ( which only 6 of all sold cars have issues with)/ IMS can be found on internet With that the costs to have these, well known issues, fixed brbrSo in my opinion you can perfectly buy a used Porsche 997 Just do your homework and know what you can expect and make up mind what you want to do Buy a car with all issues fixed, save some more money and buy one with lowe mileage, or buy one and take care of the common issues yourselfbrbrLast remark i want to make is that a Porsche 997 is considered a good investment, prices are stable and even rising as the car is a potential future classicbrI saw my 997 Turbo mk2 go up 30000 euros in three years time…brSo i would say: BUY A 997!

please don’t let this put you off You just need to be informed, as with any older performance car Just take this video as entertainment with the objective of driving revenue rather than genuinely informing buyers

Lol Porsche is one of the most reliable brands out there and they absolutely can be driven year round with basic maintenance This includes regular washing with undercarriage rinse which at least in the US is available pretty much everywhere My friend has 200k miles on his daily driven Cayman and it’s been bulletproof, and I know many 911 drivers who run the hell out of them year round Cars that sit are the ones that end up having problems 99 of owners won’t notice any internal engine wear because the car will just keep on going anyway without symptoms This is nonsense lol

hendrixh
Please stop using stupid video titles as such when you are running a Porsche channel and you are talking about the best 911 generation

The title is click bait I get it The 9971 is a great car Now having said that like any car especially in the UK being used in winter with tons of salt used will experience the issues as mentioned That's not the cars fault The title should read "Why You Should NEVER EVER BUY A Used Porsche 997 and use it as a daily in the winter especially in the UK" Also there are many documented articles that describe in detail why iron sleeves do not work well in 911 engines NICKIES only ! Also that car has been used substantially as one can tell from the patina on the chassis and components Decent vid had some good info and some not so knowledgeable info 👁

DAN WEDDERBURN
997 Gens 1 is a ticking time bomb Dont buy one 997 Gen 2 is a superior car in every respect Here in the UK there is a massive difference in condition, totally depending on where in the country the car has been used Scotland is a no no complete rust buckets, best are south west cars What this guy does not realise, when you come to sell it & make these huge claims of being the best Porsche buyers being what they are want to see all of the work done by a main dealer or at least a Porsche specialist They are all demanding buyers, going to the point of being ridiculous in my own experience Just noticed its a tiptronic What an awful prehistoric gearbox it is Its an old Merc box You must be mad to dump the money you are into this car

I never get these kind of “Porsches will fail videos” I am on number six and although I have had my share of small issues I always put mileage on them, much of it driven all year in Colorado, and have never even heard of much of this nonsense br79 911 SC Targa—yes it leaked oil, sold it at 135000 miles, still running greatbrbr86 944 NA, damn dash cracks, overheating due to the archaic model T type cooling system But fixable Otherwise magnificent car Sold it at around 120000 miles Running strong and would still top out at 130mphbr2001 996 Great little car—despite its reputation Yes I was talked in to replacing the IMS 102000 miles, was a dual row Looked new Sold it around 117000 miles Not a single issue when I sold itbr2010 Boxster, never a single issue Sold at 60000 because I moved to a two car garage br2021 Macan No issues other than my wife hated it Sold at 10000 milesbr2013 Boxster Has 30000 miles no mechanical issues, but my radio is ridiculously cheap Hyundais have better radios And my door panels at the base of the windows are mildly warping Only I notice it Houston, Tucson and Las Vegas heat and sun

Comment from : Jeff Chester

112hounddog
Believe me I know my m5 has its issuesdid rod bearings twice, but it currently sits at 172k miles Porsche owners justifying full engine rebuilds at 80-100k miles is crazy lol but the owners usually have the money for it so to each their own, German maintenance is German maintenance no matter the brand

Seb Chedick
