It depends what you want out of life Some spend a fortune on their house Some live in a small semi and love cars, so they have a 911 on the drive

milo
Good video I bought a GT3 when i had twice the price of the car in cash I paid the car outright I've always felt that if you can't just pay it you probably can't afford it
Comment from : milo

Olufemi Abiodun
YouTubers need to stop asking people to like a video from the beginning We haven’t even consumed the content yet Let’s watch and enjoy it, we’d like it without being asked Subscribing to the channel comes natural after liking, if we enjoy the content My 2 cents
Comment from : Olufemi Abiodun

Neal Powell
Thank you so much for enlightening me with a realist idea and plan to purchase a Porsche! This really helped me a lot!
Comment from : Neal Powell

Paddy S
This rule is stupid because: If you make over 200k a year You will not need 50 for your needs!
Comment from : Paddy S

Alexander Torres
The math checks out for me! This will be my first 911 and the YOLO in me is like “just get the turbo” but I think I’m going to be more practical for my current situation and get a 997 CS instead! brThanks for the info!
Comment from : Alexander Torres

cr4zym3x1c4n
I make 60k, the goal is a gt4 I’ll give it 5-10 years investing and a 30k downpayment and with my wife and my salary combine should be obtainable
Comment from : cr4zym3x1c4n

Leo Gasi
What if I plan to sell it after 3 years? Shouldn’t that also been kept into consideration, specially for the 911, which loses value very slowly in comparison to other cars?
Comment from : Leo Gasi

Devyn The Unbroken
so just gonna exclude buying a Porsche but for me I wanna buy a BMW X6 XDrive40i (hopefully a X6 M50i) and with options it sits just under $80k and basically I have to find the perfect job that will satisfy me and make $138,667/yr I'm never gonna hit that "suggested" amount I'm studying to go into Cyber Security and I live in Virginia The highest I ever seen salary wise is $123k/yr and that's for people with 7+ years of experience I may be naïve, but I dont wanna wait 7 years just to get my first X6 and never really obtain the M50i version when nicely optioned is $100k Any suggestions? because I truly wanna know and dont wanna window shop I genuinely want to own that car when I first drove the 2023 model before they become hybrids
Comment from : Devyn The Unbroken

ICANTBELIEVETHISSHIT
Rule of thumb for me is to never spend more than 6 of your yearly salary in car payments, I know the industry standard is now closer to 15
Comment from : ICANTBELIEVETHISSHIT

dubreil07
I only believe in spending 10 of my monthly gross on a vehicle note Don’t care about inflation
Comment from : dubreil07

Max Daniel Strauss
If you’re asking this question, you probably shouldn’t be buying a Porsche
Comment from : Max Daniel Strauss

Miguel Gonzalez
The question shouldn't be controversial at all It's actually about as solid and realistic a question as anyone should be willing to ask themselves brHow much do I have to be earning, or be worth, to purchase a luxury car and not break my budget?
Comment from : Miguel Gonzalez

SW
Wonder who drank the cool aid from this video and now in late 2022 is facing a difficult financial situation?
Comment from : SW

Mark Spark
I like it and I pretty much agree with the numbers :) However, if you go for a 2nd hand car, like maybe 3 years old, you can get sooooooo much more bang for your buck :) (at least when prices come back down to a normal level)
Comment from : Mark Spark

Mofojo
Shaquille O’neal says reinvest 75 percent of what you make and out of the 25 percent, whatever you don’t need to cover living expenses, go ahead and use that to ball out
Comment from : Mofojo

RedSquirreLx
This is wack Everyone is in different situations financially and have so many different living costs - only you can know if you can afford or if it’s worth it to spend the money
Comment from : RedSquirreLx

filterdecay
dont buy them Own a s-corp and have it pay the lease as a tax write off
Comment from : filterdecay

Rob Schlegel
This is all assuming you have a nice new Porsche as your only car I’d bet 90 of Porsche sports car owners have another car they use as a daily The average income of people who own these is likely much higher than what’s in this chart
Comment from : Rob Schlegel

MrBankRelations
If you can make the payments and still live comfortable buy what you want no set rule
Comment from : MrBankRelations

Comment from : steve myers

steve myers
AS SOON AS YOU CAN PAY CASH FOR THE CAR YOU HAVE ENOUGH MONEY - PLAN ON $5k /YR IN MAINTENANCE i HAVE HAD 3 THEY COST MONEY TO MAINTAIN BUT THEY ARE THE BEST CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED OR DRIVEN - THE FUN FACTOR IS OVER THE TOP
Comment from : steve myers

Scott Mcquade
I know that supposedly as the say goes, "the more you make, the more you spend, is true I don't think this method scales well For the more I make, the less of the lesser bills I have I only need to buy one cell phone and plan, one cable bill, one life insurance plan, etc so I would have much more disposable income than a straight percentage Just like when you have a marred couple and you can share one house one utility bill unless you get divorced lol I know he did kind of touched on the couples buying power but something to consider
Comment from : Scott Mcquade

Mike McCormick
Rich enough to pay cash for it, out of petty cash Otherwise, you’re an idiot Lot of people living in LA, eg, who live paycheck to paycheck leasing expensive German and British cars to project an image

Evan Tullos
Correct answer is buy something you can pay cash for Liability insurance only Once you are completely out of debt and have at least $750,000 in cash, other than your fully funded retirement plan (at least 15 of your income) , the buy your car with cash without touching your $750,000 savings You’re welcome
Comment from : Evan Tullos

Norwegian Blue
A car payment should be no more than 10 of your monthly take home pay AND that is after putting at least 20 down and limiting your loan to 48 months, max!
Comment from : Norwegian Blue

Jay Vincent
Just bought a new Porsche I make 40k-50k a month Got to the point where it doesn’t matter if the payment is 1000 or 2000 That’s when you buy a Porsche When it makes no difference and 1000 feels like pocket change
Comment from : Jay Vincent

rgarri6396
If you have to ask you can’t afford it! I think if you don’t pay cash you should not buy the toy!
Comment from : rgarri6396

Comment from : Stas Samusev

Brian Richardson
If you can’t write a check for a Porsche you have no business buying one Most people lease them bc they can’t really afford the car
Comment from : Brian Richardson

Lee Roberts IV
In reality, most people are simply gonna save up enough for a good down payment and just front month to month payments and sacrafice other spending like eating out, vacations, and other luxury lifestyle choices Not saying that's the best way or only way, but that probably fits most Americans looking to buy an exotic like this
Comment from : Lee Roberts IV

Aaron-Damon Kassner
I’d rather lease a Porsche not worth buying it Just deal w gas and insurance and payments
Comment from : Aaron-Damon Kassner

Steven Pink

But CPO "used" and it's amazing how much car you get for way less than full price Maintenance is ridiculously expensive so always get a CPO car Unfortunately I speak from experience
Comment from : MagaTom

MagaTom
Multiple porsche salesmen have told me that the NEW CAR average 911 buyer makes $800,000/yr, boxster/cayman makes $400,000/yr and cayenne is about $500,000-600,000 and macan is about $400,000/yr
Comment from : MagaTom

Doug Dawson
Yeah, if you make 100K, you should probably buy a Porshe YOLO!

Comment from : Andrew Schmidbauer

Denny Brown
New Porsche has never been on my list of wants ! When there are very few places to drive and get to enjoy the full thrill of driving a sports car , because of cameras (big brother) , police , just doing their job , and highways that are too congested , the car just isn't worth it ! Now , a vette for one third the cost , will give you a thrill , whether you are cruising along at 55mph, or growling down a lonely straight stretch of highway Plus the ladies love a vette whether it is moving or not ! Porsches sound too much like a volkswagen for me Just my humble opinion , people
