I found a study on estimated average income loss due to hearing in only one ear at birth today Oddly it estimated it at $1 million I believe it was done by a well known insurance company Unfortunately, I lost the link Any chance you might know of it? Comment from : John Anderson |
|
Not sure if someone has already noted this, but his description of the vestibular system is not quite accuratebrThe semicircular canals are filled with fluid (endolymph), which moves through the canal (opposite direction of head/canal movement) and displaces the cupula to send rotational information to the brain brIf there are “marbles” or “crystals” in the canals, this is actually Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), a common dysfunction brI’m obviously listening to these with significant delay, so I’m not sure if he’s made any corrections addressing this? Guess I’ll find out as a keep listening to the podcasts! Comment from : Justin Clemens |

Can you give any advice for avoiding nausea when playing video games? All the first person games where you can turn your head and move make super nauseas, but I'm a gamer at heart and really want to play Even watching other people play can make me sick I don't get carsick or seasick, it's just in VR or watching video games on a flatscreen Comment from : Jennifer N |

I watched this episode because I am interested in the vestibular system I was diagnosed with a vestibular migraine on December 6, 2015 I remember this date because it was an acute onset while I was jumping rope in the gym I was on the 2nd level of the building looking out of a wall sized window when the floor tilted suddenly and I fell to the floor I have never been the same I also have photophobia and sensitivity to sound I often feel like my head is not attached to my body, I’m falling forward or I feel like I’m moving when I’m not I am on amitriptyline which doesn’t help much I tried balance therapy which also did not help Im going to try the exercises you suggest at the end of this video with forward acceleration while tilted but do I need to take up surfing or can this be done just while walking and tilting my upper body? I’m wondering if you could do an episode on vestibular migraine and what the latest research shows about rehabilitation I had never heard of it before until I was diagnosed with it and now I’m seeing more and more about it Last but not least, thank you so much for what you are contributing to the world I could and do listen to you for hours! You have opened up an entire fascinating world for me I’m truly grateful Comment from : Tammy Cooper |

I have a friend who had to give up XC bc she falls over and vomits (exercise induced motion sickness) She had been running distance for 3 years before the first episode) The ENT says vestibular migraine (she does get secondary hormonal migraines), but the neurologist disagrees He feels that maybe she just didn't register on the scales She's miserable bc she had to give up running, and sometimes feels sick just walking quickly or some distance She had no issues before the first episode in a race Do you have any more suggestions as to what could be wrong and how she can find help? Thank you so much ☺️🤞 Comment from : Veronica Orlet |

Hello, I have a 12 ur old daughter diagnosed with sensorineural hearing loss Has there been any studies done in listening to different frequencies to heal hearing and auditory processing? She was diagnosed at age 6, probably due to an antibiotics or medication given Is there any neuroplasticity exercises or treatment you would try to is not mainstream on your own child if you had a Moderate to severe high frequency hearing loss child? Hey guys- I just wanted to let you know that I made a vid on a channel with pure 40 Hz binaural beats I found my concentration really does increase Made a vid for pink noise as well, and I made 7Hz with rain noise too Hope this helps! Comment from : Manna Berry Lab |

I'm a little confused - do you use white noise/binaural beats in preparation for learning or actually during the learning bout or both? I feel like I'm hearing conflicting things Comment from : ZupaTr00pa |

Could you cover the topic of tinnitus please! Comment from : Pam Santon |

I'm a huge fan Andrew I started at podcast 1 and have been working my way through all of them I also suffer from high frequency hearing loss since about 10 years I have 40 percent on both ears in the high frequencies I'd love for you to talk more about hearing loss and also talk about the work you mentioned at Stanford regarding replenishing the "hairs" and any other research, including stem cell research advances and what your thoughts are I do manage beautifully because I happen to lip read, which is an extraordinary tool that is right up your visual-aural combo Comment from : PT Studio Magnolia Design |

🫶🏻🙏🏻 I have this particular Huberman Lab Episode in a separate playlist 😂 from all of the other Andrew Huberman’s podcasts… and I listen/watch it often, I’m hoping all this information sticks - as often I’ve found in this podcast my focus seems to hone in on sections I swear I hadn’t heard before… HubermanLab Podcasts seriously have helped me, over a shorter time than I had expected to assist me in Rewiring my brain to be brMore Positive, and Learning again is also helping me to better Problem Solve daily situations that may happen in any moment of life in general… Love HubermanLab Podcasts brThank You so much for doing this brDr Andrew Huberman … Comment from : Madeleine Qiex |

I've only recently learned about this podcast and find these fascinating Being single sided deaf due to removal of an acoustic neuroma in 2011, and the removal of the vestibular nerve on that side to prevent tumor regrowth, I'd love to hear your thoughts on how losing an auditory nerve and vestibular nerve impact body function Comment from : Richard Bostiga |

Is 40hz the max frequency for binaural beat effectiveness? My “Ooooo” app goes up to 50hz and says 45-50hz is good for “energized focus” and that 30-45 hz is good for focus Comment from : Bic Boi |

bSUMMARY/bbrbriinject rest throughout
the learning period/ibrIn periods of 10 seconds micro restbrthe hippocampus and the
cortex are active in ways
such that you get a 20 times
repeat
the rehearsal
continues while you rest,
but at 20 times the speed
So if you were normally getting just, let's just say five repetitions
of G-D-F-E-G, G-D-F-E-G,
G-D-F-E-G per 10 seconds
Now you multiply that times 20
In the rest periods, you've
practiced it 100 times
brbrbrYou can also take 20-minute nap
or a 20-minute decompress period where you're not doing anything
after a period of learning

Task brwhite noise,
provided that white noise
is of low enough intensity,
meaning not super loud,
not imperceptible, so not so
quiet that you can't hear it,
but not super loud either,

I feel lightheaded and dizzy sometimes after smoking weed Both symptoms trigger a feeling of fear and have occurred while I'm exercising and during moments of nonactivity Why is the brain causing me to feel fearful instead of relaxed and concentrated? Comment from : Adrian Allicock |
|
Professor Huberman, thank you for this I have a question: do you have a point of view on brain training games? Comment from : bimwop barn |
|
Ok the brain was signaling activity during the rest periods but IDk how they could tell what was going on especially since the subjects were told to let their minds drift, the brain could have been doing literally anything during those breaks Comment from : JACK WILLIAMSON |
|
Are there any programs at Stanford to treat tinnitus? Comment from : Chris K |
|
Another incredible episode, as always Of note though, the semicircular canals are filled with liquid, not stones as described in the episode - and even more so, the fluid, called endolymph, has a specific electrolyte profile than the fluid that surrounds the canal, allowing for rapid depolarization of the hair cells Comment from : Matt Ronan |
|
I have thoroughly enjoyed this episode, Andrew For some reason while listening it occurred to me that a series on the neuroscience of creativity would be fascinating Comment from : Square Back |

Another cool fact about your middle ear is that the size differential between the eardrum and ossicles along with their joints actually amplify sound with the pressure reaching the cochlea being almost 20dB stronger than it was at your eardrum Comment from : Logan Hays |

Always find your talks fascinating but on the subject of Tinnitus, I am disappointed I have suffered very badly and have learned to eliminate it with a low histamine diet Hydration is also important My tinnitus clearly increases with thirst Now moving to a paleo style diet, I am having to readjust as it comes back with higher protein and fat I am surprised that you don't mention the relationship with food/histamine Would love to see more research on it Comment from : Grow Your Local Busines with Attencon Marketing |

@andrewhuberman Hi Prof Andrew Huberman brThis Particular Podcast I really Enjoyed learning - I guess maybe because I have already learned so much from you with your Podcasts…!!! ❣️🌏from me in The Land DownUnder… so happy I continue to learn how to learn and retain my learning no matter how old I ambrWhich brings me to White Noise re: children…? When I heard my placenta when my first child was in vitro, the Placenta Sound sounded like Loud White Noise…a distant waterfall sound and constant - if a child’s Cochlear and hearing didn’t evolve in vitro is it possible they ( the baby ) situated in the womb right against the Placenta, or the Placenta mimicking Very Loud White Noise for those children suffering hearing loss, or difficulty from birth… it was just my pontification stimulated when you mentioned children’s hearing more likely to map badly or not at all well if loud/constant White Noise is played to them…? Hope my extrapolation doesn’t seem ridiculous to you, though I really want to know what you think about this thinking 🤔 especially given I am a mere civilian and not a doctorate of anything yet lol Comment from : Madeleine Qiex |

I do get sea sickness however, afterwards I have land sickness, I can feel the gravitational force and it’s worse than sea sickness Thank you 🙏🏻 Comment from : Rose Perozzi |

1:19:35 - some clarification re Doppler brbrThe siren rendition seems suspect, let me be specific: There is a point in time where, thinking in musical concepts, a transposition downwards of the pattern occurs brbrThat is the point at which the approaching vehicle passes by the listener However, the change in tempo is misleading: that is, the two alternating pitches within a single cycle (two notes' worth) of the pattern move from one to the next in gradually more and more rapid succession brbrThis tempo change has no relevance to the Doppler effect Comment from : Y L |

This helped me understand why tai chi and 5 tibetan rites are so valuable for training the vestibular system Comment from : Ahmed Z |

I could listen to a piece of music and remember what keys on the piano to play without prior knowledge of the piece of lyrics and just play that key known as play by ear Interested to know how i could remember how the piano keys are located and memory of it sticks even if i only play the piano once a year? Comment from : Brendle Lau |

I have a question Has research been done on kids/adults diagnosed with ADHD and their auditory capacities? It is known that ADHD kids aren't good at listening to certain instructions or respond to their own name brbrYou mention this "auditory tunnel" effect in a "cocktail party" situation Has research been done on ADhD and the auditory tunnel effect? Or any other ADHD and auditory learning challenges? brbrIf you can direct me to certain studies, I would be grateful Comment from : Scooby Says |

You use very convoluted phrases - how about simpler ones??🙂 Comment from : Meinung Abundance |

First of all, you can learn something listening only in a passive way, namely a foreign language Everybody knows that spending time in a foreign country, even just listening to the flow of information surrounding you, helps you to learn the new language enormously brSecondly, listening to certain words in a speech of someone, is definitely a sign that you are listening without an understanding Ideally, you have to listen actively and try to understand and to extract an essence of somebody's speech An essence, not some words, if they are not key words for grasping the issue Comment from : Meinung Abundance |

this formula on measuring your ears just doesn't funtion Can you give an example? I am over 50, and accordingly to your formula I am 20 This cannot be Comment from : Meinung Abundance |
