i have meditated since i was 3 i am also really reflective it doesn’t help me with stress at all i think i just do it automatic i find it can help however to just say to people that you need to be alone if you need to gear down from being around other people however more than that it helps me more to be around others (who are not upsetting to me) Comment from : S |

When Dr Huberman said: “Social media” I saw Dr Sapolsky’s face changebrbrIt’s because Dr Sapolsky knows that is really easy to feel like the stressed ‘have not’s’, while people only post the moments of glory The expensive vacations and places etc…brbrIt will take a lot of frontal cortex exercise to look at the fabulous posts and think you yourself and the things you do are still worth itbrbr1:11:01 Comment from : Paula Deoliveira |
I think you are wrong about how sensitive the brain is to testosterone It definitely hightens libido and there is differently difference in behaviour I think it makes sense though that learned behaviour stays there even after testosterone goes down Comment from : S |

I "discovered" the lack of free will in any lifeform when i was an adolescent too Is a tough realization Comment from : quieness |
I respectfully disagree with Sapolsky’s definition of free will… after all he willed to write a book about this! Decades ago Sir Roger Penrose introduced the idea that consciousness is a quantum process, outside of the paradigm of mere (Newtonian) materialistic neurobiology Comment from : Jon Eberle |

So people with "ADHD" would have lots of testosterone (in combo with dopamine), they are cocky and impulsive, they are in the moment, have a lot of energy Comment from : Charlotte Zetapus Eng |

I came to the conclusion, free will is an illusion, after reading Synaptic Self by Joseph Ledoux The only way freewill exists is if we truly don't understand the physical nature of reality, which is entirely possible Comment from : Joseph Dias |

Ten years from now Huberman will look like Sapolsky Comment from : Rud Eigin |

smart and rspectable guy, sure, but to say a society can function with believing they don't have control over ANYTHING because we currently believe we don't have control over SOME things is such a weak point Wasting half of ur book bro Nonetheless, the belief that freewill doesnt exist is itself an L lmao Comment from : Angelo Mateo Moreno |
Would someone please clarify one thing for me: I thought that consciosness evolved because it gives an advantage over simple(r) organisms who are operating on something like algorithms So is choice really just an illusion? Comment from : vakarimasen |

Huberman and Sapolsky?? How did I not see this a year ago Comment from : johnny myers |
On free will: it's not that we are fully free and equal of will, that's obvious, it's that we are individually free, our choices are still our own on top of the individual circumstances , each different and based on complex unique factors, equally weighted on the scale yet sometimes completely opposite perhaps in action Comment from : Ryan Wigglesworth |
1:25:10 a glimpse into the pessimism of a dyed in the wool leftistbrbr"You don't have control" brbrLeftists need to believe there's no afterlife or soul They're programmed to be pessimistic and deny that consciousness/intelligence/empathy can survive physical deathbrbrI've experienced 3 spirits in meaningful ways I accept we're largely robots but there is a crucial link from our higher self or spirit to our physical consciousness Comment from : Carl |
We do not lack Free WillbrWe do not have full Free Will either; we cannot say "I want to become a person that thinks in this new way" IE just wanting to be a type of person that is less lazy, focuses better, works harderwanting any improvement does not cause it to just happen It is a struggle of the mind to improve yourselfbrI am going to guess it is 80 NOT Free Will for our choicesbr20 is the actual Free Will But using that 20 if you think about Knowledge of Knowledge as in this video, or other cognitive theoriesyou can gradually use that 20 Free Will to become a better person with years of effort But my Epistemic Mind might be delusional; maybe I have only 5 Free Will and the remainder of my choices are automatic results of deterministic phenomena? I don't think so, but my point is I admit my self-assessed Free Will could be less than I subjectively judge it to bebut regardless of logic I still think I have at least 20 Free Will Comment from : Denalo Zecon |
Regarding free will, I think that the burden of proof is on those who claim it exists It is their responsibility to provide a definition and evidence I'm not convinced that I've ever seen anyone exercise freedom in any choice they've made Comment from : Matt Olson |

He changed my entire perspective when he talked about how we might view putting people with neurobiological conditions they are unable to control into prison, similar to how we currently perceive the burning of people with mental conditions in Medieval periods Comment from : Jason Parmenter |

testo level is,simply put,a potentiometer the levels of testo, inpart, decides the potential your physiology to do/gain thru whatever is going on,that your senses registerbrthis is a very dumbed-down,tho practical way to think of it in the beginning of a learning curvebrand on the software side, theres self-confidence,the psychologic analogue to testobrbrps: steep learning curve means that you learn fast, the learning is easy steep learning curve, with time on the x-axis of course,is a cakewalk compared to a flat one we humans are so weird😁 Comment from : 8=720 degrees |
i love listening to robert very helpful outside of school listening to youtube videos Comment from : Official_son_of_art |

Shallow observation so skip if irrelevant Sapolsky looks like a model for one of those classical statues depicting biblical/mythological characters, he would have made the quintessential Zeus Just saying Huge fan of Sapolsky's lecture series on Youtube, must viewing for any student of man Comment from : Sergio Alcantar |
Place ‘member of a tribe’ near the top of the decision tree and you’ll reach an answer for any given person to whom you’d be interested in applying the theory In a few cases, I’d be asking whether they were actually sentient at all Comment from : Ryan Seacrest |

The part on free will 01:13:17 is an example of how there is an illusion of knowledge: we believe in mainstream science that the neural mechanisms are all there is to consciousness, and that we are "nothing more than the sum of our biology", as we understand biology today But quantum physics has already shown us that the world is not mechanistic, facts are no facts before observation Therefore there are no facts before consciousness The mystery of consciousness is yet unsolved, both its role in quantum physics and definitely therefore in biology and in the way the brain works And in free will There is a beautiful theory of free will developed by Prof Henry Stapp, consistent with all we know of physics But here Robert Sapolsky exemplifies the hubris of materialism denying the existence of free will because he believes too much on nineteenth century understanding of the world (mechanistic) And he is writing a book about free will! He says the world is build out of atoms, but he does not talk about the true nature of atoms which is quantum mechanical in nature! The debate is still open, not like what he arrogantly is concluding Reminds me of medieval scholasticism, thinking we already know the core of reality, and there is nothing fundamental to challenge Comment from : Enrique Balp Straffon |
"Knowledge of knowledge", or what is deliberatley used today "knowledge of fake knowledge", such as the 2020 boogiedisease, creating percieved instinctual panic, when it never existed at all Be careful of these "scientists", they are not always for your best interest Comment from : Cool Daniel |
now Stresstosterone is a word in my brain Comment from : sayit1196 |
The only thing I disagree with is his idea on Will I believe Will is discovered through the process of spirituality, where you truly let go of the emotional bond to your actions and thoughts where Free Will is found more and more I can see why he doesn’t think this way though, it can be looked down as not scientific Though, I have had my own experiences with this Comment from : Iambox boxman |
Not clear on the effects of testosterone and estrogen differences for females Comment from : Saskia Schmidt |

I would love to hear the complete thought process he begins at 1:18:53 , seems he was about to propose some possible arguments against his own perspective Comment from : MBG |

Could an increase in random violence be caused by displacement aggression when our masses are overwhelmed? Comment from : Rebecca Swinney |
Most of the neuroscientists believe in free will? Do these people even understand what they're working on all day long? They see all the time everything is chemical in the brain, and they can't conclude there's no freewill in chemical reactions? Scary, woeful Makes you understand you can become a neuroscientist while not being very bright Comment from : miskatonic |

Its astonishing that someone can reject the existence of free will I think they are just romantically attracted to the idea that "oooo nothing is in my control I am so free" People like him will live their lives as if they have free will but will say otherwise 🤦 Comment from : Somasundaram Sankaranarayanan |
Wow epic to in decisions amazing you both have helped me along the way thank you stressed humans are a constant in my life I think we create it in the mind way to much In a world where we create it in our selves from pixel own a screen we have in our faces content Is our species walking around in a constant state of hypnosis from destruction maybe even lower testosterone in the young generation is it linked to the much lower birth rate around the world how knows Comment from : David |
