I learnt this really late (Early 30s) So thankful for the internet that knowledge like this can travel all the way to Southeast Asia 😊

Geoffrey Gill
My favorite thing Feynman did was his solve of the cardinal sine function integral From negative to positive infinity, the area contained by Sin(x)/x is Pi… How? Watch a yt video of his solve, it’s incredible

No wonder chem was easy for me last year Used to do this on my own just because my handwriting was all over the place and I knew I would forget key details if I didn't write little side notes

Your notes are very simple and effective thanks for sharing them

little do we know, this guys learning the feynman technique by teaching us right now
Comment from : Unmeinks

Satish Singhal
To be able to use Feynman technique, a student should have already developed excellent reading and writing skills, which a huge percentage of students do not have
Comment from : Satish Singhal

Wood Croft Ⓥ
The only problem with this is that by simplifying the explanation it becomes less rigorous This is a common problem in mathematical proofs An example in physics is that Feynman himself didn't like to explain spin as a "tiny magnet", because it's actually the other way around A magnet is a bunch of "tiny spins" aligned So if you want an ELI5 answer to some fundamental physics question, explaining it in terms of more mundane concepts is technically a mistake It's the mundane thing that is explained by a more complex, but fundamental, concept
Comment from : Wood Croft Ⓥ

Coruja
This technique still takes a lot of time considering the density of each discipline you need to study in academia, doesn't it? brI'd say that the key point to apply it would be right when the concept is presented to you Gonna try it next semester, wish me luck!
Comment from : Coruja

Sasha Nealand
yeah thats fine for rich people who have plenty of time the rest if us are busy working at menial jobs trying to transport ourselves from job to living place if we are lucky enough to have one, fixing our broken down cars, taking care of family troubles etc

Scott thank you! brSince 2014, you are the one who introduced me and many others to productivity Even before it was a thing No matter how many mainstream creators come and go, you are the king! You have been the benefactor, and I come back again to this video to pay my respects brbrThank you for being a huge part of our growth journies

Tiger Toxins
Understanding is such an important part of learning, all the knowledge that remains unprocessed essentially becomes inaccessible in comparison to the knowledge you have available on a whim brSpending the time to ponder a non finite amount of interpretations wastes way too much mental energy in the long run Having the knowledge go in fully understood transforms it into a sort of mental device, as odd as that sounds, even though this is all personal unbiased interpretationbr It's like comparing a fully functional machine to a disassembled one, the individual pieces have the potential to be a fully working structure capable of outputting results based on input, but if even a single piece is missing, the performance decreases or the machine doesn't even work to begin with brYou keep your machines (knowledge) well maintained (understanding) in the hopes of consistent efficiency (practical use) If new terms are added or concepts are reworked due to being inherently incorrect, the knowledge gets updates, the machine gets an upgrade Sometimes, you can't just keep slapping on new stuff because the original framework can't support it brI'm probably wrong though lol
Comment from : Tiger Toxins

Nouran
Been doing this technique my entire life without knowing also I noticed whenever I didn't do this, it is just never the same deep understanding I get when I follow this technique

My summary of the video :brbr1 Choose any topic you want to understand, write it on the paperbr2 Start explaining the concept in simple words,as if you are teaching to someonebr3 Do not use Technical wordsbr4 If stuck, review the source material and start explaining againbr5 There's a better and simple way to explain the concepts, keep thriving for that

This is the technique I use on a daily basis, but I soon gave up on math, as I suddenly could not understand basic algebra I think this is mathematical anxiety that has caused all this

This makes a lot of sensebrI find that my brain has a hard time remembering things if they don't make sense to mebrIt's like my brain is sceptical of things it doesn't understand and doesn't want to waste the storage space in case it isn't truebrOr, maybe my brain really idoes/i store this info somewhere, but can't find it again because it doesn't know how to reference it properly

Engletina Knickerbocker
Understanding something from the point of built knowledge is actually a lot easier than memorization of concepts Rote memorization is for starting points, if it's not within ones' usual range of experience For example, in third grade we were awarded a prize if was memorized our times tables up to twelve For me it was easier to be able to 'see' the four times three things in my head than to try recall the sound of the words brbrWhen I was teaching my sons and younger sister to read, we picked out stop signs and place names and labels, and I looked for 'windows of opportunity' to encourage learning new concepts brbrMy son had perfect pitch, so the Suzuki method worked out perfectly for him (actually he learned to read music at about the same time he learned to read words) because it requires short bursts of learning concepts with guided encouragement In my case, as a parent, I attended the classes with my son so that I could 'learn' and 'coach' him as I encouraged him Problem was he outpaced me in the first year Maybe that's the way it should be?

Richard Carew
I think it's called the Feynman Effect where he postulates that one learns more as we organize our thoughts, and check the math, so that you can make your thoughts clear to other people we are our own best customers teaching is not for everyone my father taught reactor theory at the graduate level, and he was frustrated with their, apparent slowness you didn't have any trouble understanding it but I watched him work it out over a couple of years and I had a whole lifetime with someone who said math is easy and showed me but he couldn't deal with people possibly because he was an army officer did not suffer fools gladly or otherwise it's the thing I love to do the most he taught me one thing for sure the more I know, the more I know that I don't know says he I am pretty sure I understand that part
Comment from : Richard Carew

Comment from : Beaver Monday

John Redcorn
I have been teaching myself to code, and realized halfway through watching this video that I technically do this technique mentally When I have a problem scripting something, I always try to pinpoint the concept I don't understand and focus on learning that instead of focusing on my script
Comment from : John Redcorn

Ted Cameron
Over a minute and still not explaining anything? seriously wtf? Have a downvote for wasting my time You want to teach people something? Don't fill their minds and short term memory with unnecessary crap beforehand
Comment from : Ted Cameron

Manchu Ratt
It's effective but not efficient As is the case with anything worth learning; it takes times to learn a concept at depth Cramming is ineffective (unless only general understanding is required), but relatively efficient
Comment from : Manchu Ratt

DiabloMinero
On the one hand I already knew this On the other hand, I love Feynman, so any mention of him gets an upvote
Comment from : DiabloMinero
