What’s the best advice you have received? 🤔

ClayDice
So I am literally brand new at any kind of CS stuff Just started a couple days ago reading and studying and learning (not in college) I’ve done a bunch of tutorial programs (tic tac toe, hangman, password generator, the new guy stuff) why I’m having trouble with right now is this… how do I “create” my own Where do I start and what kind of goal do I need to have Like what exactly am I making with the code? Sorry for the dumb question guys I know, “skill issue”, but I’m serious I have no idea where to start when trying to create my own program Also, using python I didn’t know about all the other ones when I looked up where to start so I started with python(PyCharm)

I’m just not built for it mentally Parts of it I can understand, but it’s like gobbledegook virtually all the time I can see words, but WHY and HOW they work is elusive brbrI can see a line of code and see that it works But I don’t know why That makes it useless to me outside that context
Comment from : Novarcharesk

I really liked one of your advice from another short is building your own projects on other people's open source projects that you like (if that's what you meant)brAlthough might be overwhelming if you're not familiar with the language or concept but it's still a step in learning new things

If you want to avoid tutorial hell, try to use tutorials that use another language or at least a different set of tools (libraries, frameworks, etc) This way you have no way to directly copy, you have to do your own research and you still can follow the instructions to get more or less the same cool result
Comment from : Adsan

IronBrandon
This one guy’s introduction to Java (for writing Minecraft mods) series had videos in-between the tutorials where he would have something for you to program using what he had taught so far First there was “Program a simple trivia game” and eventually “Program a fully-functioning Tik Tak Toe game” He also encourages messing around with the code however you want, suggesting you make a simple game of your own
