beautiful video distinct differences Comment from : Ritupaban Kotoky |
Ya know, I can hear the difference, the more expensive one has a richer sound, but, I couldn't imagine paying an additional 55k for a sound that you can get from a $200 sound pedal Comment from : Kdub2434 |
I prefer the cheaper Comment from : Francisco |
When I heard the 1st chord on the 42, I said, "Whoah" out loud The X1, while very good, didn't have the depth of the 42 Comment from : David Povenski |
I am so happy Martin is not having its low-end guitars made in China This model is very nice and sounds excellent It does not have the nuances in tone the high-end model has Comment from : Virginia Hoffman |
I'd like a Martin that looks like crap, sounds like heaven, and is made of real wood Do they still make those? Would that be the Streetmaster? Comment from : Lee Gee |
Meh Comment from : Mark Fry |
The cheaper one had a deeper bass sound Comment from : William Finn |
"Creams and lotions" lol Comment from : Greg Pasquariello |
65 d35 family heirloom now, has repairs over the years gives it depth throughout its range that I haven't heard matched Martin or otherwise Comment from : Justin Yount |
um um um Comment from : CreakyCricket |
First note on the Martin one can hear the richer tone Comment from : Dennis Werley |
SOunds like the more expensive guitar has an edge and a slightly livlier sound, richer tones They both sound great I own a Taylor 914CE and it beat out the sound and feeling of the Martin D8 I had Just in my umble opinion Solid wood sounds better I agree that the pricing is rediculous Comment from : John Frymyer |
thank you sir Comment from : Wanil TV |
I’ve played guitar for 53 years I don’t hear a $4,000 difference in sound, especially over my phone speakers Anyone saying they can, well good for you There are many great guitars out there of which Martin is certainly one But in my humble opinion the best sounding acoustic guitar I’ve owned, played, and listened to was a Guild made in Westerly, RI Comment from : TheNewenglandboys |
A talented musician can make any guitar sound great Comment from : JR Martin |
Great Video !!! Thanks ! Comment from : JR Martin |
Resonance, sustain, brightness, clarity There is a very big difference in those between the two, not so much in the low mid and bass area Comment from : TheUn4givN |
Sweet liks Comment from : Ractor |
I upgraded from an acoustic electric Fender (CD-60SCE) to the Martin OMC X1E and there is a major difference in sound The Martin sounds way better But also, the Martin feels cheaper than the Fender Eventually (when the funds are there) I will get the Martin D35 Comment from : In the Wasteland |
I own a 000X1, I am very happy and pleased with the sound Comment from : Todd LeClaire |
600 is not "cheap" Comment from : Moe |
I don't see the point in having all the flashy adornments on a guitar, surely it's the sound that matters and I could buy a couple more guitars with the extra cost of all the BS Comment from : Freddysnewchannel |
Martin discontinues most affordable type models sooner or later Comment from : im annonymous |
Get hair cut lol 😆 🤣 😂 Comment from : John Ramsell |
My car is having issues Mo Polyphagia is acting up daily I barely make it break to breakI only get relief in rare cases of hypoglycemia 😢 thank you for healing Tonya and Gary Amen Comment from : Luke Sheltrown |

What you see in the aesthetic difference between the 000-42 and 000-X1 is what you hear in the sonic difference Two universes apartbrBut I'd swear you hear a huge difference between the 42 and 28 as well, not in terms of quality, but in terms of the 'shape' of sound What I mean is that between the 28 line and the 40 line there is not only a difference in aesthetic style but also in sound style If you like sweet, rich bass and treble tones you'll love the 40 Series, while if you like a powerful, strong mid-range tone for dueling a banjo you'll love the 28 morebrPersonally, I'm not fond of all that gold and abalone, but I do love the emphasized bass and treble sound of 41, 42 and 45brI'd rather see a comparison between an X1 (or X2) and a 28, as I believe they have a more similar sound shape Comment from : Roberto Romano |
can you make a video about martin & co vs mart cf ? Whats the real difference, where they are produced and so its pretty hard to find something on google Every difference i can see is price Comment from : J M |
Imagine a wine red with Black plated guitar Comment from : I Micchon I |
yes, it does sound 10 times better lol Comment from : Eddie Dutch |
The lowest cost looks and sounds twice as good :O Comment from : Fly Oz |
Diminishing returns once you pass the 18 and 28 series Comment from : G Demolished |
I liked the cheaper one Comment from : John |
You should know that sounds good is great BUT it’s just the way it FEELS when you are playing it is to me, at least, more important 🎸✌️ Comment from : Bike Rider |
Nice sound on the 000-x1 For seven times the price you should get seven times the sound! I meanwe are not talking about some music school cheap guitar vs a studio profesional insturment I feel some of these Brand Name guitars are way over priced Comment from : mark warnberg |
I've had lots of solid wood guitars and they are so badly affected by weather temperature humidity cold that i went for the Martin played here and its bullet proof Never goes out of tune It doesn't scratch or ding You can leave it out for when you just want to play it and it still looks like it did the day i bought it Best most practical guitar I've ever owned Yes it doesn't sound like a solid wood guitar but the cat is my audience and she don't mind Comment from : Mick Blast |
Based on sound quality, the 42 is slightly better - but definitely not by a factor of ten But 100 years from now, when the owner's great grandchild is playing it, and it sounds sweeter and more beautiful than anything you can imagine, an X2e will most likely be long gone, tossed in the dumpster of the dive bar it was purchased to play at so the owner didn't need to worry about damaging his 000-42 Comment from : Richard Stones |
Hi I’mbrBuying a Martin , just deciding which one Anyone know if the Johnny cash guitar is any good ? I have 16 on my walls and the last thing I need is another guitar Comment from : Dr Bill |
The Martin 000X1AE is appointed with 1 11/16" nut The new replacement is 1 3/4" Comment from : Robert E Mason |
Great review Cooper By the way your parents had a sense of humour with that name didn't they😀 Comment from : Haggishead |
The 45 sounds better but not 10 times better Comment from : Spectrum Dad |
X1 has a bit less bottom end Comment from : Spectrum Dad |
Surely he meant price differential not discrepancy? Comment from : Marie McCann |
Just bought my first Martin & it's really hard to get a feeling from these videos I have a DX & boy that bass rumbles through your body when playing The Mexican made instruments are definitely the best guitar I have ever played Truly amazing 👏 Comment from : Spacedraptor |
Thank you so much for the comparisons Comment from : Richard Chandler |
They sound close I like the high end I need one in the middle Comment from : Richard Chandler |
You play great Comment from : Richard Chandler |
I couldn’t hear a word this man was saying All I could do was bask in the greatness of his hair Just look at it Comment from : Meester Dinglefritz |
The 000-X1 has a nice softer undertone it really sound good Bought are lovely guitars Comment from : Lubomir Demcak |
Great review, I had a HPL Martin a few years ago, wish I still had itbrOne things for sure: if someone attacked you with a guitar and all you had to defend yourself with was a Mexican HPL Martin? Well your going to be stood in the bar drinking your beer while the other guy waits for the undertaker brMan those things are tough! Comment from : 123123baztard |
When it comes down to the buck/tone/sound the X1 beats the 42 by milesbrYou probably will get the same sound in front of a mic icm with the right settingsbrSo basically the finishing touch of the 42 (the abelony and the choice of wood - read looks) would make the $5300 difference to me which obviously you can translate into sustainability Comment from : Huig Snellenburg |
Obviously the 6000 model sounds better, but not 10x better and even at that it would only be to a trained ear The people listening in a live music venue definitely wouldn’t hear the difference I’ve never wanted to worry about owning and caring for such an expensive instrument personally but I get why people will buy the more expensive models Comment from : Tim Reeves |
The second one sounds more shimmery It seems to project a little more than the expensive one I’m a cellist and it just drives me crazy that a cello has to cost the price of a house when you can get a professional well made cello for under 20,000 dollars Same thing with a bow If it’s pernambuco some will charge you out the wazoo! Comment from : Picco bow |
Just pure bro science but I feel like cheaper guitars you feel and hear more of the string itself and expensive guitars you hear strings projecting through the wood Cheaper it’s just a way to project the tone of the strings and expensive guitars the sound of the strings mesh with the wood and project through the sound hole with more vibrations Comment from : Dustin Adair |
I’m not a guitar snob and certainly not an expert, but to me it was like comparing the sound of a pipe organ played in a cathedral to the pipe organ effect on an electronic keyboard Actually I was surprised how dull the £600 Martin was, and I guess you’re just paying for the name because a £350 Yamaha acoustic guitar has a better sound Comment from : Stephen Jenkins |
Love the sound of the cheaper one better And the look Comment from : J C |
The more expensive one is prettier and I like them both pretty much equally Comment from : Bill Baker |
"I'm an artist, and if you give me a tuba, I'll bring you something out of it" JL 🫡 Comment from : Just Saying |
My "cheap" used martin STUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! total POS I actually just ASSUMED it would sound like it was from the heavens Worst 560 bucks I ever spent My 200 buck Sigma was WONDERFULI paid for the nameI was teaching acoustic guitar and wanted a "better" guitar than my students would have so I just had to have that Martin Comment from : Mark Frost |
Listening on Roland MA-12c's - I closed my eyes for first listen Once he started the Cowboy chords on the Laminated 000-X1 it (sadly) reminded me of my Laminated Sapele American Taylor 110 - I definitely preferred the sound of the costlier 000-42 Comment from : acidophilic |
Thank you, good demo on sound! I have several Martins including a Little Martin LXM and hear the volume difference and wonder about overall sound The LXM will continue to be my Campfire and travel guitar However when at home the 0-18 and 00-16DB are my go to guitars Anything bigger gets uncomfortable, still very playable and bigger sound but not as much overall fun I really do not feel like dumping $5-7K on a 42 series, so I took the route of building my own Martin Guitar Makers Shop sales kits and materials so you can pick and choose to some degree of your dream guitar The Ladies there are very helpful, it takes patients and care And if you check local you may be able to find a Luthier to help you insure quality and bring things together Comment from : Jack Haney |
This comparison misses the point of the X-Series It's construction isn't simply for cost, it's intended for a budding performera good sounding, yet affordable guitar that carries the gravitas of the Martin heritage, but built so that performer does not have cardiac arrest should the guitar get tipped off its stand on a break by a clumsy patron Comment from : 58icarus |
Give it to me, I can make a $6k guitar sound like *hit! Comment from : Dwayne Hendricks |
obvious difference dude rose wood to mahogany Comment from : C Geo |
plastic tuners ? come on Comment from : C Geo |
Never once found a more expensive guitar to be worse than a cheap onebut I have found cheap guitars that are fantastic given the price Comment from : Metric Deep |
I don't understand why some people prefer the satin finish on guitars I've been playing since 1967 and the satin finish was considered cheap and nasty after all it is cheaper to spray the satin finish It's the same as the relic thang where they use clever marketing to sell something that's cheaper than standard to manufacture and charge more for it It's a scam ladies and gentlemen don't be conned Comment from : Felixq78 |
I wish you had said some thing like even though it’s a 2XE model is a 10th the price, the sound quality is 90 or 95 with the more expensive model I wanted to hear more about what you thought of the sound quality of the 2XE Comment from : Gal in the Glen Flowers |
When it comes to price the first $1000 is for the audience (tone) and everything beyond that is for the player (feel and playability) Comment from : Remu |
Heard No difference whatsoever Comment from : John Lopez |
Jewels and creams and lotions😂 Comment from : Kyle de Montigny |
its more expensive because of its inlays and better wood quality Guitar is also an art piece not just a musical instrument Comment from : אלי אטלין |
Get a Breedlove and don't pay for hype Comment from : Mark Evans |
I could hear the difference, easily The 000-42 had more depth and evenness of volume across the strings The 000-X1 was brighter but shallower I would take the sound of the 42 any day My guess is the playability would be the same I don’t like all abalone flashiness at all, though And I can go either way on binding Comment from : Tim Floto |
Howdy I mean no disrespect, but I've played older Martins, and I've played '50s Gibson J-200s The sound of the J-200 won my ears LedHed Steven 🎸 🎹 🎸 Comment from : William Hiles |
The 42 all day longbrI have a D-35 bought in 1978 & love it but always wanted a 42 or 45 Comment from : Darrell Reine |
I think if the more expensive one was Mahogany instead of Rosewood, the sound difference would be quite substantial Comment from : Anonymous |
The “cheap” guitar sounds better! They can stick the $6,000 up there ass! Comment from : NookieBizkit |
Got to be honest with you I think she's paying for all the bells and whistles on the whole gate 42 they saying about the same to me Comment from : Jim Woods |
Obviously the 42 was deeper, richer, and warmer which is what I'd expect from an all wood guitar Though the X1 was brighter and less mellow, it's still sounds great The price is affordable, but I can't seem to convince myself to buy a plastic guitar I'll have to stick with my old wooden Breedlove for now Comment from : Constitutionalist |
no question the high end guitar sounds much better, and that's probably more pronounced in the room the cheaper model sounds thinner, almost scooped, next to it (and still sounds a lot better than the acoustics i've owned) Comment from : Lowell Pelkey |
I feel crazy but the cheaper one sounds warmer and deeper I like it better Comment from : Will Clay |
I would love for you to compare a Sigma to the Martin, I have said from the beginning that Sigma is just as good if not better!! Love to get your opinion Thanks from Canada Comment from : Mike Fatovic |
Great video, thank you! Comment from : le th |
Using Bose head phones ,the rosewood sounds far and away better , the cheaper sounds tin eeee Comment from : Dave Gott |
You appear to be more comfortable with the 600 dollar guitar More attack in your play Comment from : Stewart Perry |
The cheaper one sounds similar as Takamine/Yamaha/etcThe other one is really Martin Sound I can imagine it on open tuning omg it would be a magic Comment from : Meve Barr |
Great comparison! I'm playing the lower gray Gibson right now but man it was a great deal for what I paid for it and I'm looking forward to upgrade and appreciate it Peace out! Comment from : David Allen |
