I'm not sure about "under $1,000" on the Gibson I can't find a G-45 anywhere for less than $1,200 and some places have them higher Driftwood Guitars is just down the road from me and they reviewed one here on YouTube and found it seriously lacking for the money In this group I might have to go with the Taylor though that Martin sounded great (I know it was a dreadnought so apples and oranges to some extent) Thanks for the post Comment from : King Brutus XXVI |
These are fine guitars for sure But, no Yamaha, Epiphone (master built), Recording King, or Orangewood? Good to see a Gibson though Comment from : Ryan Justice |

All I know is that Taylor had a nice ring to it that the other guitars didn't, except for maybe the Eastman Comment from : ClassicJukeboxBand |

Holy Smokes that Eastman sounds Amazing plugged in!brI’m a Martin owner, but I’ve always hated the sound of low end Fishman pickupsbrBut damn that Eastman sounds Bliss! Comment from : D Mar |
I’ve got the G45 STD and have zero problems with it, was nervous about richlite as I’ve never had it before but nothing but positive opinions on this model Hard shell case it comes with is great too Comment from : Mike |
Disappointingly, I didn’t hear any guitar I liked when amplified And that’s what I am looking for: a guitar that is suitable to use in my (amateur, recreational level) pop cover band I’d happily spend around 1000 euros on it, but surely it’s gotta sound better than this Comment from : Sjoerd |
The Martin is made in America just not the U S Comment from : Chris Shawn |
Guild is no 1 Comment from : jim lewis |
Gibson has lovely harmonics and sustain, the Eastman very chimey, super cheap used Comment from : sdfswords |
Martin and Gibson for me beautiful tones easily use them professionally Guild sound like plastic toy guitar Taylor and Eastman gorgeous sounding to not my style of guitar Eastman is totally handmade Amazing Comment from : Anthony Roach |
$1,000 " above a beater" Sounds about right lol Comment from : Josh Thompson |
no Epi Masterbilt? Comment from : David Heid |
Interesting and informative The playing and your discussions are valuable and enjoyable Very helpful to someone trying to decide on a specific model Comment from : gingeoram |
And Taylor, made right on the other side of the "border", 50 miles from Taylor's main factory A reminder referring to Taylor's use of wood: layered, NOT laminates Laminates are typically wood veneer over a synthetic substrate or mixed WITH a synthetic substrate Taylor's "layered" wood is all wood, made from all the same kind or type of wood Obviously, although "layered" wood (all wood) will not offer the same quality tonality that "solid" wood will offer, it is still far better than "laminates" using synthetics or combinations of different woods, many times inexpensive wood under the outside veneerbrbrbrOn the other hand, Gibson, Boseman manufacture, hide-glue, solid walnut back, etc, under a grand? Yeah, amazing (and out of stock! 12-26-2019) Comment from : DRailroad |
Odd tonewoods and laminate No thanks Check out a solid wood Washburn well under a grand Hog and Spruce Gorgeous guitars Comment from : smokesgtp |
Eastman sounds best Guild sounds the worst of the bunch Comment from : Zoran Soptija |
Didn't know about that new Gibson, nice Comment from : Lord JS |
To my ears, Gibson sounds best unplugged but Taylor wins plugged The rest were too muddy Comment from : T Mills |
unplugged ——> martinbrplugged ——> taylorbrjunked ——> gibsonbrjinxed ——> guild Comment from : sorumluluk sahibi dakik daktilo |
The Eastman and the Martin are the best sounding to my ears The Gibson was muddy and the worst to me This coming from a bluegrass/country background Comment from : Ben Childers |
Unplugged first pass it is Martin imo That gibson is fabulous and the mid range rips thru Love how you guys did the amp too You can tell taylor and gibson pay more attention to that stuff Not as drastic shift Game changer when you plug those acoustics in, all bets off Great review Comment from : roytube10 |
Five best: Guild, Larrivee OM01-02, Fender Paramount Series, Eastman AC22, Martin 10 Series (there are NO taylors in this list as 1, 2 and 2 deluxe are all none solid wood guitars) The G45 might be good but lets be fair: in tye last few years they have been really dropping the ball on quality control brList bests? Larrivee and Fender Paramount Comment from : Eric Ryan Songs |
faith for first place, brfaith for second place, brfaith for third place, brfaith for fourth place, brblueberries for fifth placebrbr youtube/N2gX33x3ubgbr youtube/-e1UfWxPfgkbr youtube/WPp5XUNdy4g Comment from : oregon floor |
America f**k yeah! Love the Gibson and Team America reference Comment from : Paul Moakley |
I can't help myself, I'm a loyal fan of Eastman - I own an AC422 (spruce/rosewood) also under $1K - so my vote is for the Eastman AC222 ce I want to own a Martin and a Gibson one day - liked them both for different reasons - but don't want a dreadnaught to get the sound I was sorry that the Guild (another dread) didn't make my cut and the Taylor 114 is out of its depth in imho Great review, as always - thanks Quinton and Paul Comment from : lmfrimond |
A Gibson under $1K, made in Bozeman, with quality wood No comparison Sounds great! Comment from : Robert Abbey |
Gibson is the only acoustic that ever has the right sound for me Comment from : Se Sa |
Guys, I LOVE your reviews BUT, in this case you're not giving the necessary sonic information because you kept the mic in the same location which means that the acoustic AND plugged in sounds are muddled together, try again turning the mic toward the amp and shifting the guitars away That will really tell us what the audience will hear through the PA Comment from : Mark Westphal |
Great comparison demo! Very interesting! Thanks Comment from : TheThinker39 |
Wow I've always owned and usually preferred either Martin or Taylor but I have to give it up for that Gibson on this one To my ear the Gibson was best, the Guild was the poorest and the others were a coin flip Good video Comment from : Wang Chung |
You are making it too easy Every guitar is different I've seen 10k Martins and 800 series Taylors I hatebrIt's not as easy as a brand I've seen 30000 solid top guitars that sound as good as a 5k guitar I bought a 120000 Yamaha I chose over an expensive D series Martin I couldn't find an expensive Martin or Taylor that intonated great on all strings and sounded as well as the Yamaha I would have spent 5kthank you Yamaha!brWood movesmetal moves It is an imperfect thing Comment from : Su Freidman |
Nice review, but you left out the guitar that, I believe, is better than any of these: The PRS SE Tonare acoustic I tried a wide range of instruments, including most of the ones you have here and eventually bought a T-40 SE that was more playable and sounded as good as my Martin D-18 Full voice, long sustain and beautiful harmonics It even comes with a hard case I think it's a terrific buy at about $700 Comment from : tomldove |
I love Martins once you get into all real wood construction and good bracing, but that Gibson wins the day in this category by a mile Comment from : ianA |
Admitted stupid comment BIG diff between plugged n UNplugged but my journey will never be amplified so the 45 followed by the 114 Comment from : Ed Fulginiti |
Great to see Quinton back Comment from : twnchf |
To my ears the Gibson unplugged and the Taylor plugged I would probably choose the Taylor so I could noodle up the neck😎 Comment from : Gregory Jackson |
martin - gibson - taylor, in that order i was surprised by how much I liked the taylor, as I am not a fan of their instruments So the Martin is NOT made in Nazareth? Comment from : Martin Kleinman |
Thanks for the great side-by-side comparison of these nice 'middle class' guitars! Do you have Seagull from Canada in your store? I would love to hear it played by Quinton Comment from : JurBols |
Gibson/Eastman/Martin/—Taylor & Guild DNFwould have been more interesting w/sock pulled over the headstocks! Comment from : Jess Montgomery |
When you get the new GPC- 16E or D-16E I will be waiting to see your video! Cheers Comment from : hapshan |
Gibson all the way and I own the martin d10e Comment from : Ryan Bloom |
Too bad the included pick-ups all sound terrible So brittle sounding The Gibson sounds very nice un-amplified Comment from : jeroen grobben |
Love the re-named road seriesbecause I own one! Comment from : EricCross |
The new Gibson, sounds great and has a slightly more pleasing sound I am looking forward to, your next video on it Comment from : War Monger |
Gibson is the clear winner here No surprise that the american made crushed the over seas shit boxes with strings Comment from : Guild Acoustics Blake |
To me, none of these sound great unamplified I'd go with the Martin and the Eastman, though they both sounded a bit trebly for my taste Didn't like the Gibson All the guitars sounded better amplified, except for the Guild, which sounded muffled, both with and without the amp Comment from : Paul Marshman |
wait this paul dude oWNS the store!!!!!! wtfff Comment from : SUGAR LIFE |
I have to go with that Gibson G45 I think it's the total package! Full disclosure - I own one And I love it Comment from : T Griff |
Epi masterbilt yo Comment from : Adam Fusco |
Great review for a great category of instruments I have similar guitars to some of these; an AC422ce and an older DCPA4 I find that the Eastman sounds fantastic acoustically and the Martin is superior through a PA In the end, these are gigging guitars and its the performance through the PA that counts Also, the Eastman is so alive and resonates so well (lending to the great acoustic performance) that it tends to be a feedback machine on stage In the review the Taylor sounded the same to me whether acoustic or plugged in Comment from : Gary Corde |
Those new G series Gibson's and the Eastman played at the very beginning do it for me Comment from : rmzzz76 |
too many guitars not enough time lol well said! Comment from : Randy Schartiger |
