For my second year of taking mandarin in high school, my teacher was fired It was the second half of the year, and they couldn't find us another teacher, instead they gave us a permanent substitute teacher for the rest of the school year and made us all just take rosetta stone courses I felt like I was losing the steady progress I had already gained (the lessons felt dumbed down) It was not fun and my classmates (who had already struggled paying attention with my teacher) we're even more uninterested and easily found ways to cheat off one another In summary, I don't recommend using it lmao Comment from : Shaina Dela Cruz |
What about italki? Is that in app form? It keeps coming up on other sites brThank you for your input on this Several I have never heard of! Comment from : Booklassy Garrahan |

I agree with a certain amount of things But I'm really surprised that you criticize some apps because they're not fun enough to use, yet you praise Pimsleur so highly, by far the most boring method for learning languages I have used I'd rather play overpriced Rosetta Stone, than listen to boring and cringe-worthy dialogs in Pimsleur Comment from : Ghost of Gomel |
I really like Busuu, even tho the stock images are kinda lame i preffer them It happened to me with Duolingo, everything was animated and had a bunch of colours and movement and the notifications were just a lot, this more "boring" layout of Busuu was so much better for me cuz Duolingo was overwhelming I get it the more gamefied kind off thing but everyone has their prefference haha Comment from : Ara_ Navarrete |
I got a Babbel advertisment while watching this video Comment from : Celina C |
Ok I think this tier list really is badly inaccurate Comment from : Stewart |
Everyone is beautiful Comment from : Dot |
Advice: Avoid using the phrase "I feel like"brLimit face time to less than a minute, it adds nothing to the content Comment from : Kerry Lynch |

It’s a shame babel uses stock photos Comment from : diy buckeye |
I can’t speak highly enough of Language Transfer I used it to learn Spanish Currently using Pimsleur for Portuguese and finding it very good Unfortunately Language Transfer don’t offer Portuguese currently I have used Duolingo but don’t really rate it I know a lot of people love it but Language Transfer and Pimsleur are far superior if you’re serious about learning a language Comment from : Marie Mac |
Bruh lingvist is easy tier s literally beats all other shitty gamified apps, the serious and professional aproach isntead of silly gamified stuff for kids is best Comment from : Its Alex |
now it's dangerous Comment from : Gabrielle t |
give duolingo F Comment from : Gabrielle t |
i dont like busuu cuz is britanish Comment from : Joshua Atencia |
What a shocker another list where you are providing the same thing but you do it WORSE, you insult our intelligence, "let me put one in the top rank along with my amazing app so as not to appear bias" dude don't do shit like that and in the end, i'm sure you'll end up as dreamworks to their pixar! Comment from : Vasyear |
it's a pity that language transfer doesn't have a english course Comment from : Jacopo Gianfreda |
It is also a bit personal I think I don't like apps like Duolingo because there is way too much going on and It is too busy and a bit childish even Some apps try so hard to get you motivated that you end up with choice overload and closing the entire app because it isn't fun anymore I guess I'll stick to babble for now Comment from : Gigi Emma |
Pimsluer also has hardly any languages! However Memrise is one of the only ones I fo7nd that actually does European Portuguese instead of Brazilian, so that’s great! Comment from : Leo Sharman |
Language scar is crap cause it doesn’t have many languages Comment from : Leo Sharman |
What is this teir app😊 Comment from : P͜͡r͜͡e͜͡p͜͡p͜͡y͜͡💗 |

"D tier stands for du-" 😬 Comment from : Random Shadow |
I've been using Duolingo for a few months and I have to say, I'm both impressed and frustrated by the app The presentation is wonderful, the app is fun and beautiful but - at least for Korean - the lack of grammar ruins it That's the whole point of the beginning phase I tried out the Japanese course and the Spanish one, too Both have amazing explanations Makes me wonder why would anyone make a course available without a proper structure No flashcards or word list, either Comment from : Kakadu |
I'm here now, because I am fed up and bored with Duolingo's latest, massive update So I'll see how some of the other works I have already tried Pimsleur's free beginning lesson, and boy, it felt boring Thing is, I was quite happy with the old Duolingo, and now I'm comparing other apps to that Comment from : Mari Iris |
Nice Comment from : Californication kun |
Putting his own app at the top makes me not wanna trust the rest of his rankings It's like watching a long ad Comment from : j a |

dude thought he was intermediate without learning numbers NUFF SAID Comment from : figgettit |
Putting Babbel below Drops is a low blow, considering this is a language learning app lost and not a vocabulary learning app list Comment from : Fıonn ÓFaoılleaċáın |
But when you are talking about theses apps, I wanted to know how accurate is the language on the apps to the real language?? Comment from : Drecka So Lovely |
With Google algorithms I often get presented with subjects that I have shown interest in the past So this time I am presented with your valuation of "language" apps I listened to your views, and however find them more "your views" rather than an in depth presentation of the app itselfbrAll these products have to be chosen for the actual "individual" needs, not just for "fun" The languages I have used in "Duolingo", are more for a refresher of two of my five languages, since I do not have much chance to use them since 1964 Arabic, having little possibility of needing it again, I may review it later solely as a mental exercisebrI found the French module, very complete, and noted constant improvements over time, with the inclusion of short stories which make a good check on one's apprehension followed later by "podcasts", that for me are the cherries on the cake, and feel that these two inclusions should also be included in the Swahili version, that also has other improvements to be madebrI am a senior person, so my needs may be different to youngsters, though I learned of Duolingo from a girl of 10, who was learning English with the app Comment from : Gianfranco Benetti-Longhini |
J’aime beaucoup les cours de portugais sur Babbel et j’apprends vite et sérieusement 👍 français - portugais du Brésil Comment from : Anaïs Karoui |
The problem with Babel is you can't set the interface to English and study English It's really annoying Comment from : Beehive |
Busuu is amazing, when taking courses with iTalki or Preplay you make quick progress, I find it a lot of fun, particularly the social aspect You have to use it in conjunction with other materials S-Tier for me Comment from : Sarfaraz M Hosseini |
will your app be on the app store? Comment from : 1_k34 |
Pimsleur is amazing I'm glad that you rated it highit makes me want to check out the other apps you gave a high rating I have been using Pimsleur for years to jump-start a new language (recently Russian and Ukrainian), and I've been using DuoLingo to help me learn to read words in the Cyrillic alphabet, so I am glad to see you gave that a good rating as well (although I like how you rated it the app as solo use vs use with another app) Pimsleur and DuoLingo are nice pair Comment from : Gina Bee |
@Ikenna what u think about uTalk ? Comment from : Chamski Gość |
Seems a little weird to have Rosetta Stone be called expensive because it used to be almost $500, but Pimsleur which is close to $600 for each individual language is called affordable Even at the monthly subscription rate Pimsleur is more expensive than any other app I've looked at by at least double, more than 5x more expensive than some months I don't necessarily disagree with it's placement (I've heard a lot of people say good things about Pimsleur), but calling it affordable feels absolutely ridiculous I was able to borrow the CDs from my library, and while it seemed well put together, being 2-5x more expensive than any other option for just MP3s that don't even give you any feedback feels crazy to me Comment from : Anthony Westover |
waiting for your app but will Japanese be on it? Comment from : Robert B |
I would use Duolingo to only study the things learned in class or other apps I use all the other apps for more fluency and they actually use native sentences (Memrise, Pimsleur, Busu) Comment from : Ranelle Nunya |
Is the app going to be free? Comment from : qome |
Não sei falar Inglês mas preferi ouvi um nativo falando sobre app e coloquei a legenda em Português Brasil🤭🇧🇷 eu sabia que não iria me arrepender foi enriquecedor, parabéns👏👏 Comment from : Wanderley B |
Duolingo sux and always has A student has to unlearn duo before actually learning a language Comment from : Brad Hedge |
bro gives babbel a C? Only app that properly covers less popular Slavic languages like Polish Polish on Duolingo is horrible "this app has really good language learning content, but I have the attention span of a goldfish" Comment from : Chazdachap |
Whats the name of his app? Comment from : Llama Boy |
Bruh I almost just skipped to the end to see the best but you're funny asf I enjoyed the entire vid Keep up the good work Comment from : Cagnus Marlsen |

Thank you so much for this video my husband is Korean American and I really want my son to speak Korean so I’ve been working since before he was born to learn the language but it’s very hard and I’ve been looking for good apps to help teach me so I really appreciate this video ! Can’t wait to try your app! br감사합니다😊 Comment from : Shauntel Hall |

The vocabulary on Duolingo is extremely and therefore extremely limited Comment from : John Mc |
No way is Rosette Stone as bad as he says it is Who gives a Fock if it’s stock footage Comment from : John Mc |
I'm learning Japanese I've used a bit of Rosetta Stone, Memrise, Duolingo, Michel Thomas, just started Rocket Languages The one i'm most impressed with and feel that i've learnt the most is with Michel Thomas Agree with you on Rosetta Stone, what a waste I like Duolingo as sometimes learning the language seems like a chore, so having it in a game style motivates you to learn, however their latest update sucks and i've stopped using it Think i'm going to try Language Transfer Thanks for the recommendations Comment from : Matrix Four |
This is good video, but after each time when Duolingo was moved to D tier, a weird green owl tried to came in my room But apart this all was well Comment from : кого |
Duolingo removed the forums and the league system, no friend list, no competing with each other Now it's just a gamified learning app I'll give Duolingo a solid F because it has tons of translation mistakes, not to mention their nonsensical sentences They rely on freelance contributors and the quality is really spotty French is good, German and Chinese are ridiculously bad Comment from : Marzer Fυckerberg |
I can confirm that Babbel is not fun-oriented, they'll literally ask you to complete their grammar definition like - You use passive when the subject is i_/i A relevant B irrelevant But they are the only one that I've tried that teaches grammar Comment from : Marzer Fυckerberg |
I like that analysis of Duolingo Comment from : Dan Shive |
Make a video about learning a language as a student Comment from : Mikias G |
Babbel is REALLY bad it only has like 5 languages, NO Korean, NO Japanese And it’s only French, Spanish, Italian, Russian and Chinese What a damn disappointment Comment from : HANA Gacha and Roblox |
How about APPs like LingBe, the real need of talking with someone, most of the times on these apps like HelloTalk or Tandem it's hard do find someone to talk with, and the idea of talking with someone randomly it can be beneficial especially for who feels shy as first approach Comment from : Francesco Manelli |
who's here to find an alternative after duolingo made the cancerous path system Comment from : Dutch Plan der Linde |
If i would recommend a language learning appbrIts MondlybrIts a fun and well made app where you have chapters in a well made graphic homepagebrThe lessons are made into 3 parts with a word learning part and a Handsfree part where you have to talk a conversation with an AI to improve your talking skills (only con is that the handsfree version is really crap without wifi connection)brThe third part is mostly a list made into a brain graphic where ya can see the words you’ve learned without getting through the lessonbrI highly recommend it Comment from : MIATX |
Hi, like your videos I wanted to know when is your app going to be available? Comment from : AL RYLO |
Spanish or Vanish Comment from : AboodJoudy |
The green owl is the reason I’m here the new update ain’t it didn’t like it much even before Comment from : TeaDid |
I love yr personality man Comment from : TROY CRAIG |
What app is best for Vietnamese?brAnd do you recommend learning an easier language such as Spanish first or can I jump straight to learning Mandarin Chinese? Comment from : Al Smith |
Drops are my favorite! <3 Comment from : Jann Lee |
Thanks so much for this video You are very detailed in explaining the good and bad points about all the apps And you kept it very interesting through the whole video unlike other videos that are completely boring and I skip through Excited to get your own language app when it comes out Comment from : ŠILVERGODDESS ISFIREFLY |
Let us know when your app is coming out please I signed up for the mailing list notification for your app Comment from : ŠILVERGODDESS ISFIREFLY |
would you recommend rocket languages? Comment from : unmadeable bob |
I agree with Babbel being boring, but to me, all the gamifying stuff tends to get boring, too The big plus in babbel is that it has the best approach to learning imho: brlearning sentences, not words, learning how people actually speak, not weird grammar exercise sentences etc and it has a space repetition system included Comment from : Jemand |
As a guy I found that mine was flooded by girls when learning Chinese They are only interested in one thing I generally kept to speaking to guys Comment from : Mike Murphy |
So, despite a video you posted about learning Spanish WHILE ON A Mac LAPTOP running on OSX, you dismiss the ADVANTAGES of a Desktop Version for your own App! A desktop version can have many Advantages when it comes to learning ANYTHING Screen area allowing significantly enlarged text for the visually challenged is just onebrbrAnd while it is now the Middle of October you still don't have the confidence to post any videos of YOUR APP working, even though you and your team have been working now close to THREE yearsbrbrBut thanks for your work to rank other apps Comment from : Carmel Shores |
