Many years ago when I shopped on the drive home from work,I realized that the market marked down the best Cuts of beef for grilling on Tuesday afternoons after a rainy summer weekend The beautiful cuts they had expected to sell the previous Friday were discounted like fresh flowers on February15th Home to the freezer went some very nice steaks Comment from : Joan Prout |

I do my main grocery shopping at a Kroger store that I typically stop at on my way home from work Lately, every time I go, I look at what has been marked down in the meat section and have gotten some great deals My most recent one was 1 lb of kobe beef burgers for $569 I've recently started using a cast iron skillet which is new for me Every time I cook something in it I think to myself "adventures in cooking!" (Because I'm just winging it) LOL I got a pack of Italian sausage for like $250 and a big value pack of chicken thighs for like $4 I mean, why not, right? I live alone so for dinners I just buy some bargain meat and have plenty of veggies to roast And, even though the prices have gone up, I always have eggs When in doubt I cook eggs any time of day Comment from : JustMeJK |

No shade… why do you put your vegetable in a plastic bag? I try my best to limit my waste and it literally killed me to see your cucumbers , bell peppers and the one other in separate bags brbrI put my veg in my cart without bags because I’m going home and wash them That’s water waste I’d rather do that than a product possibly not recycled Comment from : melissa jackson |

I found a way to make black beans and rice a whole lot healthier than what you can get at Taco Bell, and in larger servings I cook a large pot of brown or wild rice; a large pot of black beans; chop and sauté two large sweet onions; peel and cut into chunks a bunch of garlic cloves; add some sweet corn; mix all together with some cumin and chili powder If I want some meat texture added, I would just add riced cauliflower to the mix The sweet corn can be one package frozen or two cans drained I am plant based diet, my son isn't, but he also enjoys this The reason for making a big batch of this My son also enjoys fixing stir fry meals I prepare the veggies for frying and cook the rice and soba noodles and he stir fries the prepared veggies The veggie mix is different each time we make it When we can find it, we put in a certain squash from Costa Rica We also use regular eggplant or asian eggplant Those are the special items we use Otherwise it is any combination of broccoli, onion garlic, baby corn, bean sprouts, sugar snap peas, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, mushroom, and assorted colors of bell peppers Yes, we make a big batch of sit fry also Unknown to my son, I use this to get more veggies down him without even trying :) We are currently in the process of moving from Virginia to Oklahoma, so we have some things packed with boxes staked everywhere I would love to have a place to make bread here but no longer do because of the packing I will be able to once we get moved We currently live in a situation with three families in one townhouse My daughter, her husband and her inlays are helping us find a place that is within our means Rent is a lot less and so are utilities If I remember, food was a lot less also Can hardly wait for us to get there :) Thank you for all the ideas and helps that you give us here These days any kind of help is useful :) Comment from : Kathie Mott |

My Safeway meat department sucks They take AAAAAALLLLL the fat off the meat To the point that it just gets so bad when cooked that you can't even chew it I've complained over and over The prices keep going up and the fat disappeared So sad I've switched to Fredy for meat It's a tad more expensive but I can eat it so that's the important part Sadly, I never see dairy on sale anywhere I've scored a few deals (6oz Xanthum Gun bags for 149 was amazing!) and Walmart They have a tiny little area for clearance items (not sales) but it's mostly over stock or a '?isit' situation Overall, I stick to digital coupons over 'sales' because it's more consistent and easier to plan my budget Comment from : Ebonie Blackforest |
Thank you for telling me that I don't have to use coupons I hate themtheyre time consuming the store is often out of whatever it is and there are usually stipulations like you must but 6 and you only need or want 1etc Comment from : Judie Bering |

Christine, here's an easy recipe for you if you would like For super easy dinner of left over pot roast (or chicken- even rotisserie chicken), get a pie crust, gravy (I use dry gravy mix, usually 2 packets), and you can use left over veg or I use frozen diced carrots and pea mixture Put your meat into a large skillet, add the gravy mix -you can use any meat drippings for part of the water used for the gravy mix) Once the gravy is thickened add the veg and let heat just until partially thawed Pour into a casserole dish and copy with your pie crust Bake at 375 for 30-45 minutes Let cool about 10 minutes before serving So delicious and simple Comes together in 10-15 minutes and the rest is just cooking time Comment from : Kiki Hammond |

I don't meal plan much because it's just me and my 6 year old now At least I don't formally write down 7 days of meals More of a fluid idea that I shop for But I DO shop in season If you buy stuff out of season, it's going to cost more I wish I had a house so I could have a deep freezer and stock up on stuff when it's in season Can only put so much in my inside freezer Comment from : L Sharon |

I go to the store on days best suited to “deals” Thursday afternoon I heard was a good day so I scour the ad for deals and head out Today for example I went to our local Festival (yikes their prices are ridiculous, always have been) for loss leaders I head off to the organic specialty foods aisle I have found my best deals there as well as the clearance sections in the store Bingo! Organic milk was marked down with three days to go on the best by dates They had half and full gallons marked to $150 and $3 respectively Milk gallons (organic) are $8 now!!! So I freeze the milk Markdown meats are another bargain Our local Kwik Trip sells bread 79 cents ea this month Potatoes were 10# for $2 a month or so ago so I bought alot and dehydrated slices for scallop and hash browns Also froze a ton of slices, shreds and cubes They have awesome deals every month so Im always in there My pantry is FULL Freezers all FULL So I now shop the sales and cook from scratch I dehydrate , freeze and can my deals and have a big garden Now I am looking at our household food waste, portion sizes and the sizes of the meals I make I don’t want any leftovers but they are tomorrows lunches I also plan on making freezer meals once my freezer has an empty shelf or two Also dont forget the deals on credit cards with cash back rewards Chase is doing grocery stores this quarter except Walmart Dont forget to stack coupon deals Comment from : LavenderPatch |
