Might want to stay away from 1 revealing previous job compensation levels & 2 setting a deadline for your own response to a job offerdoing those things puts the potential employee at a disadvantageand ask "no" oriented questions, get 'em to say no! Comment from : Thomas Werme |

Great video, what happens when the application makes you put in an amount? For example, I didn't know the full scoop of the job until multiple rounds of interviewing I want the job but I want to increase my salary request based on accumulative information Any tips or am I stuck in the lightly researched number I initially provided? I have a call in a couple of hours with an HR recruiter, my mistake was discussing salary at the beginning of the process This would be my first time trying to negotiate salary after an offer but Im hoping although we quickly discussed salary expectations in the beginning I can still gain this offer with my salary proposed (new and increased) Comment from : Rosana Arriaza |
I received an offer that's well above the average for my position Should I bother negotiating? Comment from : charlesincharge |

Thank you Unfortunately, I was inexperienced and the first question was "what is the least amount you'll accept for this job" and I tried to evade but was pressured for an answer, so I answered without understanding and now I've gotten the job offer for that low salary I'm unsure what to do, hahaha Comment from : Rosemary |
I had an interview with a company and I was asked for salary expectations, I gave him a range by saying "from what I know" I attended another interview which I didn't know if it was a final round We didn't discuss about salary at all I received an offer from the company but it is not a salary I am expecting And upon doing research and reflection, I think it should be more especially it wasn't listed on job description some work I have to do He didn't put any timeframe on the email Should I email him back and negotiate? Could you give me an advice please? Comment from : bella |
One question that has paid dividends literally, is “How much is the budget for this position or role?” Comment from : The Hanged King |
I don’t think you should ever provide what you’re currently making That doesn’t help you at all Only helps the employer Comment from : Jason Wiesner |
In now a days, where there are a lot of TA recruiting for other clients, knowing the budget/salary expectation is really important in order to be able to continue, form both ends - you don't want to do tests/interviews if the position is not paying more than you currently earn, and the TA don't want to propose candidates to clients if they are outside the budget Nice video, though Comment from : Ionut Alexa |
I was made redundant a month ago, I've got a few offers now but yeah, I feel like every job that asked what my salary was in my old role before an offer was made were also all the roles I wasn't successful in obtaining! I hated being asked the question too, it's almost like they're manipulating you to disclose what you expect the salary should be, which isn't even fair, especially because each time I said I'm happy to go lower for the right opportunity etc Comment from : HD_Heresy |
Excellent points Really appreciate your sharing 🙏 Comment from : Pete Cardona |
Just wondering, when you don't give them your expectations but what you currently earn, don't you bias them towards what could potentially be a lower salary? Because if I'm jumping to a new roles with an expectation to get a bigger package and I end up telling them what I earn and it's pretty low, they'll be more entitled to say "Ah but its still good enough because its 20 higher than what you have now" rather than what I could've expected to be 30 or so higher? Just random numbers ofcourse but wanted to get your views on this From what i know about psychology whatever first number you throw out creates an 'anchoring bias', so you'd rather want that to be higher rather than lower? Got an offer from local family owned company Central location, electrician trade job Offer is more than last but 5-10 Short of what I want I’m over educated and experienced for the position however have more personal needs surfacing in the next 9 months brbrI have asked for more money before in the past and received the offer retracted brbrSo do I worry about the extra 6-10 or sign on? brbrI feel like it could go 2 ways they say no and retract or say yes and hook line and sinker Comment from : xyzdakota |

I never recommend sharing your current salary; that's not good advice b/c you could be grossly underpaid and make yourself appear underqualified if the job you're interviewing for was prepared to offer significantly more Comment from : Shanita Walters |

Thanks for the video The only thing I’d push back on is sharing your salary at the beginning I typically don’t do that as I don’t want it to be used against me To me, the job I’m applying for is valued at what it is, regardless of what I was making before Comment from : Devon Peters |
Thank you so much- your videos provide a lot of clarity Comment from : Abbas Hasan |
I made the mistake of quoting a amt at the start when the Hr called me know that was stupid But now I know what I should have said So now what? Am I doomed in the negotiation process since I quoted an amount or can I still steer it to get what I deserve? 😥 Comment from : IndiClare |

I got a 1 and half experience in account payables in a BPO company and I am earning $80k with that company But before that I am a manager in fast food chain who handles funds and cash flow, for 5 years and earn $60k When the pandemic started my professional career becomes unstable Due to pandemic, I resigned to my BPO job due to health concerns, and wait till the situation becomes okay When lockdown stops, I apply in a real estate company, ended up resigning due to on and off of lockdowns When the situation became stable, I decided to apply, but I am having a hard time to find one I was desperate in that time to got an offer, so when opportunity comes, I accepted the only one offer I have, which is a position of a insurance agent in the bank Honestly this is the lowest salary I got, although commission is there, but not enough in making a living Now, pandemic is almost over and economy is coming back I decided to resigned to that position and go back to the industry where I earned a good amount of salary, which is being a AR in a BPO company brbrSo I successfully landed an interview to a well known BPO company The job position that I applied is a account payables specialist, a little bit higher Ranking from the previous one I have After nailing the interview twice and answering my expected salary which is around $85k to $95k I got an message from the hiring manager about passing the final interview and inform me the initial job offer is $87k but it is for approval I just need to send via email my previous pay slip and other documents After a week of waiting, I finally got my job offer I was shocked and disappointed that my expected salary was not approve Instead they offer me $66k, with a job that is on site, graveyard shift, and have additional responsibilities brbrI believe that they assess my salary base on my previous payslip and that is not fair That job payslip is not relevant, and why do they need it Since the job post said is earn up to $100k They accepting applicants that have atleast 12 months to 2 year job experience I got all the qualification they needed still ended up getting a low balled offerbrbrI know my worth and still not responding to their offer Still I am waiting for a interview in a small company that offers $90k and fix wfh Cons is they offer contractual but atleast there is a possibility that the project will continue Comment from : Jai |
These companies don’t even tell you about all the so called benefits I’ve been offered but they can’t even describe to me how much is healthcare and never mentioned vacation or pto/sick/vacation time brIt’s like pulling teeth Comment from : chilloften |

I am in the middle of the application process with 3 firms and am now done with the second interview I am leaning towards one firm that offers lesser compensation and lesser scope of work/JDs than the other two However, I don't have yet a final offer I feel that the other firm is about to offer me the position in a couple of days Should I accept the offer? What if after the acceptance of the job offer, I get a call from the firm I prefer, is it okay to cancel the first offer? How do I that properly? Thanks so much! Comment from : Oliver Agoncillo |
can I ask you @Andrew Lacivita, 1) when we counter (now that a figure is already on the table), should we say a range or a figure? 2) I understand why we do via verbal to make it real time, but any suggestions when talking to the recruiter? they don't make the decision and it won't be real time which makes it harderwould appreciate your (prompt) suggestion greatly, as I am scheduled to talk to them on Monday :-( Comment from : QL F |

Position is being offered with no health insurance, can I ask for higher salary do to the fact that there no health benefits? Comment from : Olya Chiriva |
you are so right about getting overpaid, years ago i got hired by a company and i made a mistake promising them a lot, because of that i required way more salary than they offered to other candidates and oh boy was it stressful getting reminded each end of week how I'm not performing enough, a big lesson is never go for a single digit salary negotiation, go with a range and compromise somewhere between so the employer knows to expect accordingly Comment from : Coding |
Very helpful!! Thank you for sharing your advice! Comment from : Alexandra E |
Great video Comment from : nstaj |
I agree with the line that you said:brTaking an offer we all are winningbrOwing to building a termbrbrHowever, employers make an offer as though saying that they can do without you Like saying after all, they are the owners of their Business Comment from : Emmanuel KALU |

Many companies just aren’t paying what they should I turned down my first ever job offer after negotiations last year They wouldn’t even budget one cent I had mixed emotions I’m hopefully going to negotiate again in the next few days with a different company and I really hope I can counter and we can get to a point where I accept what they offer Comment from : Bold Follower |

Hello Andrew I am really grateful for your video as I am currently in a difficulty situation with a job offer The employer came in with a very low salary offer I have done some research, online mostly, on the expected salary for this role and the offer the employer provided is about 30k short I am thinking of the best way I can approach the recruiter I will definitely open up with keywords as “we are a team, I want to make this work” but I am debating whether I should notify the recruiter via email The offer was sent to me via our internal system I am an internal employee To put it in perspective under the same umbrella but totally different entity if that makes sense I am concern that because I am an internal employee the recruiter/HR may have access to my current salary which is about 8-10k less than what they are offering on new job offer New job is different from my past experience but regardless like I said based on the national average the offer provide is 30k short Asking for advice here, should I email my counter offer to the recruiter? Is a 30-40k jump from my current salary an issue again i am an internal employee? Should I also email the hiring manager? I have had several communications with the hiring manager post interview Appreciate your advice in advance Thank you Comment from : jul3per |

Hi Andy, Thank you for your videos, I've successfully gotten through an interview and the CEO said he liked me very much and will give me an offer bigger than their salary range posted on the internet(what I have asked for) It's 1500$ more than the higher range But the HR lady later get to know this and told me this is almost as high as my future supervisor and she asked me if I could make a compromise and lower my expectation and I said no So I think they are discussing it internally now and I haven't got any feedback from her yet, any advice for me? Thank you in advance Comment from : Si CHEN |
