Tough but I’d have to say guitar Comment from : Zach Burrus |
Honestly, I have never had the chance to have the time with any of these boutique amps, and that is the real boutique killer for me; and, I bet I am not alone It's a real ruff sell to a player who has played amazing tired and true amps for years, like Mesa, or fender Comment from : music man |

The Archduke of something who was assassinated, leading to the outbreak of WW1 Comment from : Robert Parsons |

Amp Not even a question!brbrBut a good question to ask, if that makes sense Comment from : Gunkanjima |
It’s different if you’re a student or advanced I’m a music teacher, so I tell students, “Spend 80 of budget on guitar, 20 on amp You can upgrade the amp when you learn how to use it” A student won’t know how to coax the expressiveness out of a great amp But they can appreciate the difference between a cheap guitar and a better quality one that will be easier to play and stay in tune Comment from : Robert Pickert |
I would honestly and without regret buy a 500 watt amp that only had on - off and volume What have you got? Comment from : Kogabear |
I look at this from the car analogy stand point Having a boutique guitar and a an average amp is like buying a loaded Porsche but with a 4 cylinder engine Beautiful car but doesn't perform in the way you'd expect The amp is like the engine of the car, it's its life blood A quality boutique amp, hand wired, can make an average guitar sing Comment from : Gary Kott |
Sorry Baxter, John Williams did NOT do the score for Krull James Horner did Comment from : wirthwhilemedia |
I've got a MIM Strat with a 725 radius on which I can do Albert King bends so I've got the guitar covered I would definitely take a boutique version of a Fender Vibroverb if someone wants to make one for me! Comment from : Ryan Gunwitch-Black |
Was looking for a boutique Vox circuit but almost picked up a Two Rock after purging some gear last year Supply backup made me impatient but ended up playing 64 AC-30 and was beaten on bid so next day found a NOS 93 UK AC-30 barely broken in from a studio Love it and it’s the real deal to add to Ampeg SVT rig-Marshall and Fender lineup Guess I’m a traditionalist after all!! Comment from : Billy DeLaCruz |
I find the real time mental decline amusing Keep it up Comment from : Tom Mix |
I think it begins with how Unique your gig is or how generic you want to be Everyone with a Great Sound does NOT follow the crowd 🎸🎸 Comment from : J J |
In the early to mid-Eighties "Krull" was on HBO twelve hundred billion times Comment from : jltrem |

Lol to boutique, I buy up 60s tube amps, they're what the boutiques pretend to be, and often for a fraction of the price Comment from : jason dorsey |
My amp is my favorite instrument Comment from : Tongus Grump |
The question would depend on the quality level of the one that isn’t boutique Is the one that isn’t boutique a mid-level quality guitar or amp or a bottom rung version?brbrI would rather have a top-quality guitar that fits me like a glove and a mid-tier amp than a boutique amp and a mid-tier guitar However, go bottom rung and I would rather have a boutique amp and a Squire Strat than a boutique guitar and something like a Line 6 Spider Comment from : Blues Rock |
No brainer - amp Comment from : Jeff RoQ |
I have a scar on my face because of that movie Comment from : andyhightides |
My first decent amp was a 1971 Marshall 50 watt head into a 4x12 Sound City cabinet I ended up selling it because it was too big and heavy to drag around I spent the next 20 years trying to recreate THAT sound in a smaller, more portable package Forty years later I'm playing through a plexi clone and a 2x12 cab Comment from : REM1956 |
My guitars are not boutique, I've modified them to be the way I want them, and I don't really need a boutique guitar They sound and play amazing If you can eventually have both, more power to you Comment from : William Males |
Boutique amp brbrA guitar literally only needs $200-500 worth of pickups to sound boutiquebrbrThe amp is the most important Comment from : William Males |
Baxter you need a pedal board 😊🤟🏻 Comment from : Robert Reed |
Regardless of boutique amp or instrument, quality needs to be brought to the front when shelling out top dollar for product brbrA couple examples that come to mind include Kauer, Jackson's Custom Shop, and MorganbrbrI cannot grasp how a company like Jackson can charge upwards of 4 grand for a guitar using a scarf joint for the neck In the import series, understandable But its such a cost cutting move that feels dirty for something "boutique" and expensive Kauer does the same thing on their firebird, the Banshee How can that be justified? brbrMorgan amps aren't exactly cheap, either Psionic Audio has done some dives on their amps, and it's concerning some of the shortcuts taken considering safety code and electricity Comment from : Jack Carter |
I say go with an amp all day longbrI like 3 monkeys ! Comment from : Bryan brett |
Amp is most important to me Even a squire bullet sounds great through my Carr Rambler Comment from : Alan Dunn |
Amp, who would knock back a made to measure Dumble? Comment from : Dogears |
We all know and understand that the amp is where the tone comes from The question is at what price point do you start having diminishing returns with and increase in price? I am buying my first “real”, all-tube amp soon I have played many, many ss amps, my current is a Fender Mustang III that I’ve had for a few years brbrI’ve looked ay Two-Rock, among many others and decided that I’m going with an H&K GrandMeister deluxe 40 It gives me a good bit of play with an adjustable all-tube power section It really is all I need for whatever I’m doing, which is entertaining myself and my wife Anyone have any negatives on the H&K? Comment from : David Campbell |

Amp, amp, amp, all day Comment from : Kane Miller |

So I do know if the amp necessarily counts but my Boutique rig that I am lucky to have is a Novo Serus J medium distressed in LPB through a hand wired Fender Eric Clapton Signature tweed tremolux With some tasty thorpy pedals Comment from : LA3 Music |
Poor Baxter His mind is going Comment from : stratmagic |
I’d spend more on an amp than a guitar, but only if the warranty was there Comment from : Ben |

i'm probably going boutique amp A unique good sounding amp can make a cheap guitar sound good But the reverse is not the same Krull is terribly good bad Comment from : Andrew White |
I’d be happy with one of those boutique Casino shirts! Comment from : tyson closter |

Guitar FTW I've given up on amps and have gone full modeler /digital Comment from : Garry Simmons |
As much as I'd love to have a Novo or a Nash, my "dream guitar" has never been a boutique brand, it's always been from an established big name builder (Guild, Gibson, Rickenbacker, etc) Never had a "dream amp", but given the circumstances I suppose I'd prefer the boutique amplifier Perhaps a Dumble would make me a better player 😆 Comment from : Corky StClair |
Are you guys still giving away a Silver Sky at 50k followers? This channel is great, I'm surprised it's not growing a lot faster Comment from : Anthony Nonya |
51 amp 49 guitar!!! Comment from : Mars Guitar |
Why not both? :') brYou know why Comment from : Lila Tiger |
Like most guitarists, I spend more time playing my guitars unplugged, while sitting on my sofa watching tv, than I do plugged in This means amps are less attractive than guitars Comment from : Lysander Lives Here |
I also play a two rock pretty much exclusively unless I wanna go stereo - I run it with the twin reverb That amp is end all be all to me I have a custom shop strat, tele and a 335 with a novo on the way While all my guitars are incredible none of them are as be all end all as the two rock Comment from : Nick0429 |
Ten years old origin Texas Chainsaw on laser disc! My boutique amp is a Peavey delta blues You can cut the gig with a Squire bullet and good amp, but it’s tough the other way around Comment from : Ben Logan |
I think there’s a middle ground… give me a silver sky, sg, or 335 into a two rock - heavenbrGive me a novo into an old bandmaster or even a modern deluxe reverb - heavenbrIf you don’t consider a tone king or a Friedman boutique it’s even more open brbrWe are in the second golden age of gear where there’s amazing stuff on both sides of the equation Comment from : Brent Porter |
Boutique guitar, vintage amp Comment from : SwnkyTiger |
to all of us not named Jack Pearson it would be an amp all day Comment from : myvintagesunburst |
Boutique guitar and put that baby through a Spark Mini! Comment from : turfshifter |
I have to agree with Jonathan An Amp just has to sound good for me to like it If It looks great, that's a bonus brBoutique guitars have to do everything perfect to justify the price I've played some good ones, but they're no better than a MusicMan or Gibson I can get for less Comment from : Ryan Byrne |
Mostly from hearing what Baxter has to say and also what he plays on demos I would want a Two Rock if it has to be in the electric world If it could be anything at all I would want a boutique acoustic guitar Something with a shorter scale, A cutaway and a full-size body Comment from : Dave Gallagher |
Team Boutique Amp lol Comment from : Dorian Ford |
Krull!!!!!!!!! Comment from : J Armentor |

I'd prefer the boutique guitar My specs, my liking With the modern profilers these daysbryou could make a monotone amp sound like a dumble A bit exaggerated but factbrFor 150000 you can get any Fender reissue tube amp which is more than enoughbrSpending 6K on an amp is ridiculous You guys talk to everyone like they have $15Kbrlayin around any given time to purchase gear It's one thing if your Tom Bukovac withbran endless bankroll and talent It's another when playing is a hobby, which is I'm surebrmost of your viewers are In todays market you should be able to procure a good used ampbrand guitar for $5K or less If your gonna spend $7500 on a new guitar beat up to look old, just buybran old guitar Just my opinion Comment from : Bert Getner |
Funniest thing "boutique or I could just use a fender deluxe(bface )" almost every tone hound "here's my 40,000 dollar humble amp it's based off a fender deluxe" lolI've seen a bitmostly one is encouraged to bring their own axe and probably a good ideahouse amps can be specialbut house guitars forget about itblues jam bring guitar and cross your fingerslol Comment from : Boomsterblak |
Amplifier please Since "boutique" sounds like a disease or some other form of price gouging, I will go with the one that sounds the best with the greatest variety of instruments Names don't matter Tone does Comment from : Ross Chevalier |
3 Boutique speaker!! Comment from : Marty Shwaartz |
Sadly, like most guitarists my collection is pretty generic The most boutique I get is a Hand-wired AC-15brBoutique and Custom Shop are great, but they're a little out of my price range, and I'd feel (even more) like an imposter playing gear "above my level"brbrI will go a little crazy with pedals; but to be fair, I just pick them up and find out later some are "boutique" Didn't know when I got it (just tested some "rangemasters" and found what I liked) that my Diaz Texas Ranger would be priced almost as stupidly as a Klon Comment from : Jono Teague |
I got my Novo this year and its absolutely amazing I'd rather have that guitar and a hot rod deluxe rather than a guitar like a cheap Ibanez through a Tone King or something Comment from : Pat Millen |
Got my amp! USA 410 deville! Love it! I have a modified squire cvc 60’s that I love but one day I’m coming into Casino to by a guitar that is perfect how it is! Can’t wait! Your an awesome shop and I’m lucky to be close by! Comment from : THeff29 |
Love Krull! Comment from : Abe Harris |
LISSSAAAA!!! Comment from : Abe Harris |
Please everyone, get a good guitar AND a good amp You’re welcome Comment from : Jerry McKenzie |
Hey guys I too am a Fender fan butI've discovered Psionic Audio Now I only want a Fender that's had its preemptive repairsbr Unfortunately there is more to an amp than tone All Fender deluxe reissue amps are built to fail Check Psionic Audio and maybe you will gain new insights Comment from : Khillsy |
i had to play a shitty guitar on a gig because my les paul broke i would pick the guitar i'll be ok with a crate Comment from : mike blue |
