Subtlety is lost on this guy Why would you get rid of credit cards if you can make money by using them? I'm not saying you can make a lot of money, but you can make a little with them! All you need to do is pay them off in full, every month That's it! You make money by taking that free loan for the month and leaving the money in the bank, where it earns interest Plus, they give cash back, or at least the cards that I used do! I get back about $1000 each year plus the interest I get from my bank account, and I pay no interest or fees That's not a reason to cut up my cards, it's a reason to keep them

I love Dave Ramsey, but he completely misses the point about the benefits of associated with having a credit card If you pay off the debt every month, you don’t get hit with interest rates and it’s the exact same situation you would have with a debit card, but you can use those points to get something for free How not getting anything for free better than getting something you want for free?

I just listen to him because I want reassurance It's all logic and we do it anyway There's one point in a certain age where I start weighting accumulating money against life expectancy, and honestly, life is too short to gather wealth, (when you started late like us) we rather enjoy Our kids are doing fine so no need for them it inherit a lot, it spoils them anyways

My wife and I went through some of Dave's courses when we were in our 20s, and now we are completly debt free except for the mortgage in our 30s We had times where it was tough and not fun to live on a tight budget and focus down debt, but coming out the other side, it was well worth it!

Dave is absolutely right, although every step is important, the generosity might be the best point he made, the others (although true) are more common sense while generosity is counterintuitive The more generous you are, the more you get to be generous with, I started with 2 dozen donuts every Friday when I was an employee for the steel industry, when I started my business and got wealthy, the level of my generosity expanded to trips, appliances, cars and even a house and I can attest that's the best use I got for my money We need more Ramseys in this world

I don't like car payments I always buy something I can afford to pay cash for, even if it means driving pre-owned/used For me a car is transportation, not a status symbol I have only ever had one car payment in my life, and I had it paid off in a year I tell my friends this too Buy something cheap and used Take that 3-500 per month and set it aside just for car related things If you need repairs, you can afford them If you don't need a lot of expensive repairs, in a year or two you can afford a better car, that you can still pay cash for
