Car wizard you are the man , you tell it like it is kudos to you , I have a 2003 911 carrera convertible 6 speed 36 liter I absolutely love it , it’s a blast , I replaced the ims bearing and clutch , the 911 has always been my dream car Comment from : Jasper Hicks |
This gave me a good laugh Differentiate between the Macan Turbo, which has a fantastic engine and a well-tuned air suspension from the lower models You used the photo of the Turbo too Comment from : Selbach |
couple of 928 still running in South Africa Comment from : aurelio monteiro |
I think your opinion is valid You gave clear explanation as to why you chose one over another Personally, I like the Cayman in the Porsche line, when considering fun and cost Comment from : Ronin Mantis |
I’m only subscriber 582k, 1M subs should come just as easy This is Amazing content Comment from : Alternate Current |

What about the 924 Comment from : The Repair Guyz |
Would Car Wizard still be pro-electric if the whole co2 thing wasn't part of it? What about the cost of the batteries? Comment from : James M |
I've a '84 928s In the 25 years I've had it, I found it to be a solidly built, adequately quick, well handling GT and not junk by any means As a bonus it doesn't have an interference engine so if the timing belt breaks there won't be catastrophic damage, just an inconvenience should it occur Owning one of these cars you must either have the willingness to pay for repairs or be willing to work on them yourself Either way, it's important like with any car in keeping up the maintenance to avoid unexpected issues Comment from : sand 007 |
I reported this video to FBI for recommending an automatic transmission Comment from : Grumpy RC Modeler |
Good 70's Porsches are 70k here Good 996's can be had for 25k I missed the boat on cheap 70's 911's (20 years ago) 996 is all I can get in on nowbrbrI was interested in 914 for a while Very good examples are cheap I actually really like how they look I lost interest when I saw how heavy they are I expected 700 kg but they are as heavy as a 911brbr928 are too complicated Too much stuff to go wrong, and rare as manuals and there's no way I'm buying an auto Porsche (I'm calling the police if I see an auto Porsche)brbrI consider old Porsches to be "hobby cars" or toys I couldn't care less about how reliable they are I have a shop at home with a lift and aeverything I need to work on cars Comment from : Grumpy RC Modeler |
914 is basically a VW We don't regard it as a Porsche And disagree with you about the 928 It's more of a GT and it looks cool It did when it came out and still does now The smart move is to buy one that some guy has spent a small fortune having one restored because their values are a lot lower than 911s Boxster is a hairdresser's car :)brBut agreed that the Cayman looks good A bit on the small side but the lines are good And you missed the 944 Lovely lines and S2 Turbo was sweeeeet Comment from : sugoidessho |
Why is Car Wizard being wheeled around by this poor woman? Comment from : David Lee |
Mr Wizard, how much do you charge per hour to work on Porsche Macans? We live in Maize not to far from Newton Comment from : JIMMY |
I will just keep the GT3 Comment from : Crypto King |
Thanks for your honest opinion ,but I must disagree about panamera People love it or hate it it's nothing between Comment from : Chris H |
Can’t agree more with the 2009 cayman S Comment from : zodeadlifts |
The snap oversteer of 911s before the 991 generation makes them unsuitable for people who aren't sporting minded drivers But people who aren't sporting minded drivers generally don't like the 718/Boxster/Cayman because it isn't as comfortable (base model Boxster is plenty soft) Those are the people who should be buying the Macan, Panamera, or Cayenne These are the people the 928 was made for And FWIW, I think the second generation and on Panamera look pretty good Comment from : Right Wing Safety Squad |
If you think you want a Macan, get an Audi SQ5 It's the same car for half the price Comment from : Right Wing Safety Squad |
I bought a 2011 Panamera 4S in 2020 and it has been a blast This car is incredible The upkeep is not cheap but I don't care brTalking about coolness points I live in LA and the hottest girls have reacted very positively to it A lot of people here think driving a 911 is trying to hard But that may be specific LA I personally love 911s But you could be right about the V8 I'm approaching 90K miles and it has lost its smoothness At 58K when I bought it, it ran super smooth I switched motor mounts but there was only a minor difference brOtherwise I'm addicted to my Panamera and I will get a newer model eventually Comment from : Jan Becker |
I’m so pleased to not see mine in the video haha Comment from : david05111 |
Car wizard , what would a boxer or 911 ls swap cost nowadays? Comment from : Master Yoda |
As a German I appreciate that finally someone in America pronounces Porsche right Comment from : dgsidecarscom |
And again, like the middle child it is, the 944 is forgotten Comment from : mr19zee |
If you buy a 996, 997, 986, 987 Porsche, get a full PPI WITH BORESCOPEthe bore scoring issue is a huge issue on these flat 6's IMS upgrade is an obvious given of course too Odd he doesn't mention these issues but I know he does in other specifically Comment from : WPB Architect |
Maybe I missed it, but you didn’t say anything about the Porsche cayenne ? Comment from : PATRICK CAZER |
F U i love the 928! Comment from : vicURc |
The macan take is based…I had a an S with 140k miles on it No many major problems, small stuff here and there with proper maintenance Definitely don’t buy the base macan Comment from : Jon E Dillon |
Love my 2004 Carrera 911 4S Cabriolet through the mountains it holds the road and screams mot many cars handle like that, It is a 996 and has 34,000 miles Comment from : Jonathan Albert |
The Boxster saved porsche Comment from : Bill eib |
I thought all Porsches were well-made cars? Comment from : imaginary i |
Wizard I love ya, but you kinda playin on the bandwagon w/ the 970 hate One has to like it for what it is Stay away from the stuck-up fanboy Porsche meets and just get out and enjoy driving! Enjoy buying an 80k vehicle for 20k that is actually a very Good car! Comment from : Adam Harris |
Why to go keep the old school classic easy to work on Porsche Comment from : love1 |
Gotta disagree on the Taycan It certainly looks a lot better than the early Panameras but it's still a similar design Couldn't care less if it's as fast as a dragster to be honest It has no soul, weighs 2200kg and has a bland and cheap looking interior for the price What you should buy is a 911 in British Racing Green with a manual gearbox and tan interior Comment from : NubletPie278 |
Behind the Alfa Romeo 164 laugh Comment from : JoeDaeHimself |
Sweet Mercury Marauder Comment from : O Gon |
no 993 in the 90s? last air cooled porsche, probably the best investment in the next 15 years Comment from : Domi S |
Wichita ex-pat When did the Air Capital get charging stations? One thing, though - I have been doing research on Boxsters, and the 1999 is fine on the IMS - they used a double bearing and the failure rate is below 1 In 2000 Porsche changed to the single bearing and that is when the problems started (failure rate is AT LEAST 8) Comment from : Daniel Churchman |
The Cayman is everything the 911s aren'tIn particular the handling A wet road and a 911 is an accident waiting to happen This is what pissed off the 911 fanboysPlus its way cheaper of course🤔😳😳🇬🇧 Comment from : EnglishTurbines |
Hi , I have been looking to infinity buy and don’t buy video but couldn’t find on you list , I have M37 2012 and I was hoping I could take your advice 😊 Comment from : Hawas plate |
IMO, even the Boxster is overrated My stock 1994 Cavalier Z24 could do 15s in the quarter mile Comment from : sproutpits |
Mr Wizard, I have a 1990 944S2 and love it What are your thoughts on the 944 in general? They had a good run 1983-1991 (25L, 27 turbo, S, and 30L S2) Comment from : N R |
I agree with most of these except the 90s 911 Some people might just prefer a 911 over a Boxster Comment from : Alfa Won |
Love how the wizard starts with a warning to the keyboard warriors 😂 explaining this is personal opinions Comment from : Daniel McAllister |
Hey, I want one of those non-running 914s That would be an awesome rebuild! Comment from : Lars Walker |

I love that Alfa 164 btw I remembered when it came out…jaw droppings Comment from : 3 Pizzas to go |
Coming in late, on the 2009 Cayman S comment, I was wondering what about the 2008 Cayman? Is it the IMS bearing or are there other issues that warrants a don't buy On replacing the IMS bearing, is there a better replacement choice than others? I really enjoy your videos Very insightful and informative Keep them coming Thanks again Comment from : Chris Dula |
914 handled better, had better ergonomics- it outperformed the more expensive 911 - given the same running gear And their prices are through the roof The two air cooled 911s you recommend are triple digit price cars Especially the RS 30 and how many did they make? A 928 has a fuse for every single circuit- diagnosing one isn’t that difficult if you’re a competent mechanic Comment from : Eric Umlauf |
The RS 30? Expect $600K plus plus Buy 991 and 992’s (2014-2023) that are kept up Expect $80-130k Turbo’s if you can afford it Superior cars But it is only a scooter, no other purpose And if you can’t handle $4000 per year in servicing you can’t play Comment from : Renato Lutz |
Por shaa Comment from : Eric Sivilla |
i had boter long time ago shortly BOXTER IS SHIT CAR IT IS NOT PORSCHE Comment from : sam sami |

Dopplekeplungsgetreibe! For wizards Dr Ferdinand wondered in his visions about the future form & function of automobiles By now, PORSCHE AG should have called you for advising any serious production plans & issues If it ain't broke don't fix it? >>>Go! Go! Go! Mach 5! >>> Ty CW >>> Comment from : Jason Sphinx |
Wizard 🎉👏👏👏😵💫 Comment from : The frog |
That kiln red 911 in the background looks like the 83 SC I once owned! Comment from : SGNT |
Yeah, they may eventually have charging stations on every corner, with big comfortable waiting rooms to accommodate the drivers as they spend 3 of their 24 hours in limbo Comment from : Jennifer Harris |
I am very, very angry!!!!! Just kidding! Great show! Comment from : Osunga Okello |
This aged like milk The Taycan is buggy as hell - EV's are goofy too I had one for 5 months, it spent 2 months in shop It's junk EV's are dying, thankfully Comment from : MrSchn3ll |

I love this dudes garage so much Comment from : WhoisHaro |
Wasn’t the 928 the fastest production car of its time? Comment from : Brian Herbst |
I loved the 914 It was basically a VW-Porshe hybrid Comment from : Roy Schultz |
A 4 door porsche is my perfect daily tho Comment from : Chris3 |
Might want to avoid the 924S and 944? Oil leaks into coolant or coolant leaks into oil Exhaust manifold Check out an Porsche Owners Forum before buying Comment from : CalBob750 |
Give me Panamera Twin turbo S 2014 , and you keep all theelectric junk for your selfWhat a mechanic Comment from : Tony Anovski |
I rarely disagree with the Wizard But I do now You explained why a 2010ish Electric P car was a poor choice due to the lack of charging stations That problem still exists today So why would you choose a car you can't just go out and drive versus one of the BEST cars Porsche has made?brI'm talking about the 9872 Boxster and Cayman I'm not going to go into all the reasons the 9872 is a high water mark car That's well documented on you tube and in the forums Comment from : Scottyb |
Macan are incredible U made the mistake of driving the base trim The turbo and gts rip and high spec builds are incredibly refined and impressive to drive, especially compared to its competitors Also, ur fat, so while it may feel small for you and your wife, most feel it’s perfect size for a smal suv Comment from : Scon |
Electric is not green and in fact funny this mechanic pushing electric junk that runs awful when cold as well not very green Look into how they make these batteries, think how you are limited with charging as well the cost to fix any electric junk The battery powered cars in the past were better than mass-produced shit today The best of all is the electric being used to power all these cars and trucks will put more stress to already stressed power linesbrLOL to think it is green to use more electric what a bunch of lies, I do think using a system with h2O would be better Keep gas alive and keep on rejecting these electric crap liberal BS out Comment from : showmemo |
Great review - I agree with most if not all conclusions - 👍🏻 Comment from : Mike Kelly |
Hmm idk the panamera has my hearthave a 970 turbo with a tune and upgraded plenum Love the way it looks and on drives it keeps up with the exotic crew Eh what can i say, there is an ass for every seat in the car world Comment from : Thefunone88 |

LOL my first Porsche was a 1980 928S I loved it But man it had a heap of flaws, for a daily driver Great video! 👍 Comment from : ModernMoneyHabits |
You mentioned that you like EVs I loved my 2014 Volt until the warranty ran out after 8 years It had 90,000 miles of mostly EV (95) Since the engine had hardly any miles, I was counting on replacing the traction battery when it failed I had to take the car to the dealer to address a battery warning code They could not replicate the problem I checked the price of replacement batteries When the Volt came out, Chevrolet priced replacement batteries at $2,500 But the latest quote was $30,000 - and it could be a refurbished battery I sold the Volt before the battery failed I won't buy another EV until battery technology is standardized so that aftermarket suppliers bring down the price of replacement Comment from : Michael McKeon |
The 914 was light, communicative and very well balanced brDriving one in California is a different experience than driving one in Kansas Comment from : nomadmac |
The 993 deserves mention in the 90's The most refined and last of the air cooled Porsches The 986 and 996 can have early 2000's Comment from : flyinb45 |
for the 2000s, you recommended the 2009 Cayman S How about a 2006 Cayman S? Same car right?brAwesome vid Comment from : Archemity |

I’m right there with you on the looks of the Cayman I like the looks better than the 911 Comment from : Billy Wild |

I can't take seriously anyone who prefers to drive an automatic sports car when a manual is available Comment from : Salad Breath |
Well, Wiz, you were sure as hell correct about setting yourself up for some replies that would make “War and Piece” look like a grade school Weekly Reader”…brSoooooo, I’ll make this really easybrThe comments about the Macan being an Audi based, cheap interior SUV is pure BSbrOther than the base, all engines are pure Porsche and the interiors are on a par with any Porsche made todaybrAnd your blathering over the 1986 930 Turbo really should have included a disclaimer regarding it’s reputation as “The Widowmaker” due to it’s severe turbo lagbrI’m going to attribute this to your limited knowledge of drivability of your subjectbrYou may work on them, but you’re certainly not Sears Point qualified to discuss handlingbrThe end Comment from : Uncle Bob49 |
The Panamera is like showing up at a pickup basketball game with mom jeans on cool Comment from : Maine Guide |
The 928 GT was good Comment from : Chris Patrick |
LOL 914 we dont call them porsche in europe but VolksPorsche (Volkswagen Porsche) kind of upgraded sportif VW Bug All 911 series and alikes are not daily drivers for short distances but need to warm up slowly and only after that can be driven fast for a long time and also need a slow cooling downbrI doubt they fitted the american use Comment from : Dd Dd |
I agree with you on all points I thought the Panamera was a joke when I first saw it It is soooo ugly Comment from : Justa Youtuber |
or just don't buy a porsche 👻 Comment from : C6Fever |
The second gen Panameras are much better than the first gen I love mine Comment from : Darren Bradley |
