How I like to pack my lunch STREAMLINE the entire activity by getting Tupper ware (it's cheap and it'll save you even more money), make enough food For The Entire Work Week (for me, 5 days) It doesn't all have to be The Same Meal, either It can be oatmeal w/blueberries, noodles w/cheese and pasta on top, salads, cereal w/bananas on top, rice w/chicken (or fish), etcbrbrEach of these meals can be homecooked, as well Just spend an hour, or two, once a week making this and part of the time you spend will include allowing you to make a meal for yourself now, immediately [little time-saving mechanism here] Once you get better at cooking, and you will, your homemade meals will taste MILES BETTER than anything you get eating out

Bringing a lunch is my favorite tip I’m always so mad at myself when I spend $10+ and it’s not even all that good I recently decided I will only buy lunch out when I’m traveling for work or out with my husband or friends

Regarding rent or mortgage: I can get behind what you said about that being 25 of your net monthly income, but it may be hard to achieve depending on where you live In my city it costs a lot to live in a decent neighborhood, certainly more than 25 of my monthly income Not trying to be critical or troll you, just pointing out that such a goal may not be doable for some of us

All good suggestions for one starting on this path Your advice, if taken will help just about anyone who does these thingsbrI've been on this path for a very long time now, and have made it to FI The freedom to live my life, without bhaving/b to work is fantastic brMy wife and I have been cutting each other's hair for years That is $20 ever 2 weeks saved for my head And a whole lot more for her head There does seem to be a female tax in our society, as women pay a lot more for haircuts than men do brFrugality is just one of the many steps we've taken on the road to financial independence Other's include minimizing our wardrobes, persuing our passions without adding additional money into them, inexpensive physical activities instead of a gym membership, etc

To waste less food, I write a list of all the food I have in the fridge and pantry and leave it on the fridge so I can always see what I have! I also plan meals around what I already have, only buy what's on my grocery list, and have started growing my own food :)
