I have a friend that is really frugal He also has multiple properties (in California), has lots of cash, and is set to retire at 54 He makes over $100k/year from his job, but that’s not big money in California I’m cautious with my money, but not nearly as frugal I pay off my credit card at the end of every month and have been doing so for over 25 years I will also be retiring in my 50s but in another country where living is much less expensive My point? You don’t have to be extremely frugal, enjoy your money, and still end up ok as long as you’re responsible Comment from : lmcc007 |

Let's face it: poor people usually don't have credit cards and gym cards Rich people usually know best where the poor can save money imagining their own wasteful lifestyles Poor people don't have things to sell and they don't buy brands new clothes and they don't go to eat dinners in expensive restaurants If they did, they could have spared money On the other hand rich people are invited for dinners for free, they have tax advantages subventionized by taxes from poor people Comment from : Hana Hudcova |

Majority of these saving tips I'm already doing for a long time now I do use a credit card though, for rewards w/c i redeem for credits back to my statement or for cash and of course i pay off the balance every month I cut my cable and my tvs are back to antennas, i downloaded streaming apps w/ no subscriptions, there's quite a lot of movies & shows that are free in them I only buy Starbucks using giftcards i get on holidays or birthdays I hardly buy clothes or shoes and if I do, usually from Ross or Marshalls w/c are heavily discounted My mobile phone is prepaid & use only for travel, the rest i use wifi & magicjack landline $50/yr My house is almost paid off & we're still driving 2 10+yr old fully paid reliably good cars and we can afford to travel internationally every year Just sit down & go over your expenses & see what you don't need & stop or reduce! It's not hard Comment from : travel nomad |

It's so easy for rich farts to tell people "stay within your budget" when your "budget" only allows you to eat ramen noodles everyday Instead of saying that, why doesn't recommend to people to fight for their rights and demand a fair wage system in this country so you don't look like a slave all the time! This is nothing but population control so they don't tear up his mansion while holding pitchforks and torches! And before the haters start with the assumptions, I'm going to be retiring very well, thank you very much, and early too It's this disdain for the poor that irritates me when this guy fools them into thinking everything is fine, so deal with it while I sell you courses on how to deal with a situation you don't deserve Comment from : Ken Tichy |
Do rich people and middle class people waste money on this shit too or just the “poor” people you like to mock? Comment from : Ellen Courtney |

My wife and I struggled through early marriage with kids on a single income by being frugal brbrIt began on our wedding day We eloped rather than pay for an elaborate wedding Modest ring Didn't need a honeymoon All the money we saved went towards our first home brbrWe rarely eat out, which includes taking my lunch to work Only buy used cars and keep them as long as possible Our highest car payment was our first car when we did buy a new car But we've never paid more than $357 a month on a car note brbrShe's constantly searching for less expensive services like insurance, and cheaper deals for everything We used to cut coupons Garage sales were a help early on We avoided late fees by being weeks ahead on our bills brbrI'm four years shy to retirement and we've spent thousands of dollars over several years rebuilding and remodeling our home We aren't rich, but this recent economy hasn't hurt us brbrDiligence is the key Comment from : Mike |
Dave is popular because people are stupid, they don’t know where their money is going and they need someone to hold their hand like mommy use to Growing up in a home with parents that grew up during the depression and migrated from Oklahoma to California during the dust bowl (grapes of wrath style) makes you appreciate every dollar you earn As far as his list of 25 I have cable and have two autos which I purchased new when I retired several years ago, worked 55 years and now I’m going to enjoy what I worked and saved for all debt free including home Live is good! Comment from : Ron L |
i agree with most of this, however after the pandemic, and the incredible amount of food-flation i cant say that the delta between cooking for yourself and going out is that big for the average restaurant, its about 25 not to mention the time savings Also car leasing isnt that bad of a deal if you dont drive too much but still drive enough you need a car, and dont maintain the car yourself car maintenance is super expensive, most people dont do it right to get the most life out of their cars in the first place so a lease where every 2 years you get another isnt all that bad Now buying these stupid expensive EVs thats dumb lol $20k will buy alot of gas Comment from : Mike L |
My favorite thing…is you ain’t poor? Poverty level? You are not buying Starbucks Trust God Fully Comment from : Gayle Jackson |

People spend way too much on grooming, hair, nails, pedicures, coloring, eye brows, intimate grooming, such a waste Just do all your own grooming and put that money in savings Don't spend money on take out, tattoos, sitting in a bar, buying downloads, food while you're out from gas stops it's just dumb I really don't get the expensive coffee thing either Too may people wanting to look like celebrities with their clothes, hair and coffees Celebrities are miserable people Comment from : Gather, Create, Live with Leslie H |

This article reminds me of a dear friend now deceased His family was old money and his net worth was in the millions Yet he had endearing frugal habits He owned only two sports coats And when i would meet him for breakfast he would carefully write down what he spent in a little spiral notebook he carried in his pocket Yet when our church needed money for something costly like repaving the parking lot he would whip out his checkbook and write a check for the entire amount Comment from : Serah Loeffel Roberts |
These seem like tips for people who are bad at money management, not people who are actually poor Comment from : Tiegrsi Designs and Studio |

I have a lot of credit card debt HOWEVER, ALL of it is ZERO interest, and I have both the intent and the wherewithal to pay off ALL of it prior to the expiration of the zero interest period In the meantime, I'm putting the money that I would otherwise be paying it off with in a high interest savings account So I am making money Comment from : Altair3750 |

Poor people have cheap stuff strewn all over their yard Comment from : Hubster |

Here in NM, medical appointments can often be over a hundred miles away My brother and I used to eat at restaurants- a waste of money Now I insist on packing our own food and on the last trip, using a 12 volt heated lunchbox my brother bought me for my birthday Bravo- a hot meal on the road for pennies instead of paying for overpriced meals I also have a discount membership at a gas station called Speedway- the discount allows me to earn points towards rewards as well as paying less for gas I shop at thrift stores for outer clothing and buy under clothing new Electronics are purchased as refurbished and paid for in cash I'm saving to buy a vehicle and pay cash for it- NOT paying interest "Rent to own?" Nope Comment from : Tina Gallagher |
Sorry, Dave, nobody trusts tap water anymore We have to buy bottled water Comment from : Dragon’s Life |
I'm pretty sure Dave Ramsey or the creator of this video has never actually talked to someone who is poor None of these things are specific to poor people In fact, I would say that they are more indicative of middle class or lower middle class because people have to have at least some discretionary spending in order to buy gym memberships, expensive coffee, cable television or extended warranties Moreover, most of these things that are considered wasteful spending is still wasting money if you are rich If you are buying a gym membership and not using it and you are rich, it's still wasting money and probably more of it because the rich person probably bought into a boutique gym The same with brand named clothes and alcohol Whereas a "poor" person might buy a cheap 40, the rich person will buy expensive scotch Also, most poor people are not buying expensive upgrades to their car They are usually just praying that there junker doesn't crap out of on them or a tire blows A flat tire to someone who is middle class or rich is a inconvenience A flat tire for someone who is poor, and who cannot replace it right away, could lead to them losing their job Lastly, a poor person could cut out all of these things and they would still be poor None of these things have anything to do with the leading causes of poverty in the US which are a poor economy, lack of affordable housing, substance abuse, lack of education and medical bills Maybe Dave Ramsey and the content creator should actually talk about what "really" makes people poor in this country instead of fluff pieces like this that try to imply that people are poor solely because of these habits and instead talk about the real structural reasons why individuals are poor I know, not as easy to do and most people won't watch it, but at least the content would be accurate Comment from : sunshine merlot |
Food, housing, a vehicle, child care What a pompous a!! The problem is inflation and people being paid below a living wage If minimum wage had kept up with inflation it would be over $20 an hour now yet many folks today are happy to get even $20 per hour Millions are making below what should be minimum wage and have to work 2 jobs to keep a roof over their heads The reality si that today people can not afford to have children, can not afford a house, yet the do it which is where all the debt comes in Comment from : A Clem |

As far as beauty treatments, go, the texture of the skin under your eyes is that the same as a skin on your hands, legs, or the rest of your face That means you can’t use the same moisturizer all over your body that you can on your face Comment from : En Jay |
I am sorry, but skimping on cheap food is not a good option It’s usually highly processed or very starchy and that affects your health That’s not worth skipping on or getting the least expensive You don’t have to buy everything organic, but you’re better off buying good quality, cuts of meat and fish and poultry, rather than the cheapest out there which is going to be filled with hormones, steroids, and other things Comment from : En Jay |

Came to this video thinking I have to have at least 5-8 points that I can still save more money from, but I had absolutely none of these problems in my life Maybe as a result I am slowly and surely starting to accumulate wealth brbrThe only thing I had was unnecessary tech upgrades earlier this year which cost a ton, but learnt my lesson soon after and decided that I won't be doing it ever again To me having a lot of money in the bank account equals safety and freedom, and to have that, budgeting everything under the sun is the way to go Comment from : ptt1982 |
