This is stupid You can do both, enjoy life and invest I enjoy life, I drive new cars, I live in a nice home I enjoy nice clothes and a vacation or 2 every year I have 2 kids, go out to dinner once a week 43 and managed to do all of this, my house is almost paid off and have saved a 7 figure retirement I’m a middle class construction worker I could have more if I followed these pointers but I choose to balance My point is not to brag but to basically say you can enjoy the good things in life and still save money and become financially independent Comment from : Kevin Couto |

I think what poor people spend the most money on today is convenience like Door Dash deliveries, Starbucks coffee, and restaurants A quick second to those are mani/pedi's, NetFlix, Cable, outings like movie theatres, golf, drinking with friendsbrI meal prep and bring my own lunch to work every day and every single day my coworkers ask me what I am eating and laugh at me when I say its something I made at home Eat My Dust I am going to be a millionaire in 10 years and they are going to be stupid debt-ridden Comment from : An Bay |

I have one that should be number 15, but it ties into the one about self improvement Don’t spend money on, or to impress, women Buy a home gym, or get a gym membership Take some classes, or learn a trade Learn to cook Study a martial art This one has several benefits: it helps you get into, and stay, in shape It gives you confidence, and the ability to stand up for yourself, or others that can’t It also makes you dangerous, which most women find attractive Get a hair transplant That also gives you more confidence, and also makes you look younger, and to most women, more attractive Learn another language Dress to suit your body shape, but in a way that isn’t wasting money You don’t need $70 jeans, when a $20 dollar pair looks just as good Doing these things will get you much further with women than spending every penny you have on them It also saves you a lot of money that you can use to invest in some kind of passive income stream The same reasoning applies to women too Get in shape, and focus less on expensive designer clothes, or pricey perfume and makeup, because men don’t care about any of that As long as your clothes suit your body type, we don’t care if they only cost a dollar, just like we don’t care if your perfume is $100 a bottle or $5 dollars a bottle, as long as it smells nice Most of us also don’t like tons of makeup either, so save your money, and just use the minimum, and cultivate a more natural look These things will save you lots of money, and will make men more interested in you than they would be if you were wearing $10,000 dollars worth of designer clothes, accessories, and jewelry Some people may disagree with what I’m saying, and that is fine, but if you’re smart, you’ll at least think about it before dismissing it Comment from : Lee Mastro |

So he always has huge cost flow and trying to build money with that He is one of the rare value investors that can make that work Many companies that are not growing anymore just have to much executive expense He buys them and cuts that out and runs on rememberance of the brand company Only putting money back if it is value If it is just a money flow that eventially collapses he is okay with that He got more value out of it than what he paid for brbrPlus people that own companies can always rewrite off :D the thing about this rewrite off is that it is less expensive for his companies Becuase he has them on autopilot and just him and a few others managing them all brbrSo think of it as 10 companies with the same executive board instead of 10 boards Comment from : TheRoidemortetfleur |

What moron doesn’t already know all of this? He is spot on with some of his comments and some has nuance to it Example… most of my family is from Detroit and work in the auto industry and I get heavy A plan discounts so I only buy a new car every 10 years and for years only bought when 0 percent was available In a lot of cases it would cost me more to buy a used car in the same model, because of higher interest rates Comment from : Doc holiday |

This is my favorite that I've taught my sons: What's the BEST car on the road? Answer: One that's paid for I am confident I've saved probably $100,000+ in the last half of my life paying cash for used cars, keeping them as long as it makes sense No debt feels great and it almost encourages more frugality Comment from : MRKNKLHEAD |

Managing money is different from accumulating wealth, and the lack of investment education in schools may explain why people struggle to maintain their financial gains The examples you provided are relevant, and I personally benefited from the market crisis, as I embrace challenging times while others tend to avoid them Well, at least my advisor does too, jokingly Comment from : Raul Romero |
|
After I learned about depreciation, I would never buy a car newer than 5 or 6 years old If you stay a generation or 2 behind on video games, it's like 10 times cheaper to play them Only borrow money to buy things like a car or home, & never borrow any more than absolutely necessary Comment from : Chilly Dawgg |

Retirees who struggle to meet their basic needs are the ones who could not accumulate enough money during their active years to meet their needs Retirement choices determine a lot of things My parents both spent same number of years in the civil service, but my mom was investing through a wealth manager, and my dad through the 401k My mom retired with about 42 million, but my dad retired with roughly 18 million Comment from : Edna |

there were 2 suggestions that I liked the most; first Cigarettes, so offensive especially leaving their butts all over and a fire hazard Two was the last one, Credit cards, unfortuneately I have 2 and am in a hurry to payoff as it is money on money at high interest rates, that I hate to pay! Oh, the prior suggestion Taxes, that is a good one Why should we have to pay taxes to the US Gov who overspends and is currently funding both sides of the Ukraine war on our dime! Comment from : Abbi Brennen |
|
Poor people spend far too much of their income on housing If you can’t afford to buy a house with a 30 yr fixed rate mortgage, you have to rent, and rents just keep going up and upbrThey also pay too much to wash, dry their clothes if they use laundromats A person could save the money used to wash and dry at laundromats for a year and buy a cheap washer or dryer (if they had a home to put it in)brIt’s expensive to live as a poor person, that is, if you want a place to live and clean clothes to wear Comment from : B J |

Our family income is around a quarter million per year I drive a 13 year old LX 570 My significant other drives a 13 year old Toyota I just got my LX570 after having owned a 4Runner for 22 years I still drive my 4runner brbrAs I drive around our town and look at other people's vehicles I think to myself "How the hell can they afford that?" And it's not just one or two here and there, it's dozens of expensive cars in the hands of people who I imagine are not in the same income bracket Crazy Comment from : Dr Emil Schaffhausen |
|
When we were house shopping, both of us had jobs We based what we could afford on just one income, just in case The mortgage company had approved us for much more We were tested on that just a few months later when the company my SO had worked at for many years announced they were closing That was 20 years ago and we still live in the same house Comment from : bhquilter |

I am 61 years of age, I am entirely alone I have no family, no friends, I am disabled and on welfare I left the city 2 years ago to live in the country I currently rent an 1 bedroom winterized cottage I turn off the heat at the end of April And I don't turn it back on until after mid November I don't use air conditioning I don't have a motor vehicle I either walk or ride a bicycle brbr I don't have a television And I don't do any of the things Buffet warns us not to do My position is, if I can't earn, I must save My rent is $25000 lower My transport costs are zero I pay $3,25 once a month to have my food delivered I do drink But I drink at home brbr I have not been in an restaurant for nearly 10 years I have not been in a coffee shop in nearly 3 years I have an internet connection which is included in my rent I cancelled my cellular telephone contract at the end of January Because nobody calls me anyway I save $4077 per month brbr I buy everything I have to buy ni thrift stores Including my glasses The prescription is not exact But it is close enough And paying $300 for a pair of used glasses is cheaper than paying $25000 for a new pair of glasses I had to make some repairs to my (rented) house recently I bought a used drill for $500 I wash my clothes with sodium bicarbonate, cheap hand soap, and white vinegar I dry them on my patio brbr However, the governments so - called "net zero" objectives are making my life much harder than it should be Last year, an 50 lb bag of potatoes cost $9,99 So far, this year, the price has fluctuated between $1999 and $24,99 If food price inflation continues to escalate, because of the so - called "carbon tax," I will be reduced to eating grass brbr Currently, it is very hot where I live, in Southern Québec The temperature is 90 F I have an air conditioner, that I found thrown out as garbage But I don't use it I just have to tolerate the heat I subsist primarily on a diet of vegetables And primarily boiled potatoes I eat no more than 2 meals a day brbr If anyone has any ideas about how I could reduce my costs further, I would appreciate hearing from you Comment from : Dermot Anthony David Kyne |
|
My Grandfather was a Scotsman and my Grandmother was EnglishbrI learned "frugalness" growing upbrMy Grandfather was also an accountantbrI learned all these lessons from a young age, and they have served me wellbrbrIn today's economy, it is hard for so many to live and/or survivebrHowever, I am still getting my bills paid each month and have bra small "nest egg" for emergencies because I know they will comebrbrWhen it comes to financial matters, I still have my peace of mindbrliving a modest life, and so grateful I have all these years Comment from : Jeanie Edwards |
