I don’t know, I hold the pick in different ways with different hand positioning and articulation changes with these variables, impacting voicing I played right handed for 10 years and couldn’t comfortably hold a pick with my right hand so I held it mostly with two fingers pointing down and the thumb pad Now I play left handed and hold it properly and I find there were benefits to holding the pick the way I did when playing right handed so I practice holding pick a number of ways Comment from : FinnAstreous’ Practice Video Documented!😎 |

Hey Andy, I’ve been playing for a number of years and have never felt very comfortable with the way my picking hand is displayed For example, I tend to keep my middle, ring, and little fingers held out away from my palm when I’m strumming or picking I noticed you curl these fingers back toward your palm Does that feel more natural to you, and does that give you better control and ability to get a more pronounced sound ? Comment from : Bill Jones |

Thanks for the tips! Coming up to 5 months of playing now The only way I can do proper smooth strumming is to not use a pick at all! Just my index finger going down and thump going up Might have to do with my right wrist being a bit less flexible after a fracture couple of years ago So using my fingers like this I have more control and better sound Trying to learn fingerstyle helped me with that But I will try to apply some of the things you said here Comment from : Nick P |
