Asking as a young white female in US I have never generalized anyone or been racist to anyone I grew up around non white people my entire life and didn’t know the concept of “whiteness” or anything like that until I was in like late middle school I understood racism of course, but I understood it as don’t treat someone different because of their skin I’ve never done that, so am I the kind of white person they talk about here? Why am I generalized? Nobody in my family owned slaves, my ancestors moved here from Norway, my parents and us kids were poor, my dad has worked for 20+ years to get us where we are, and I have a job and babysitting I don’t want to be put in this category of White American citizen that just reaps the benefits of rich, racist grandparents or something and is blind to racial standpoint in America I don’t want to be told Whiteness is my identity and there’s something wrong with me because of it Why do I have to be put in this general group called White?
