Couldn't you at least lock all 4 tires while winching or something? Like you could winch back and fourth 4 times with an atv winch or get a workout pulling it yourself that way 😓

Another reason to get a bigger winch rating than the actual weight of your vehicle is that not a single one of them will do what they are actually rated for Especially the cables!

word of advise get a sleeve for the front of the line, synthetic cables degrade under UV, at the very least find a good uv protectant for the line I live in Florida where its extremely important, I run a 4 foot sleeve with a soft hook for the exposed part so when its wound no line is showing to the light with soft ball hook you can easily add a big hook if needed but rarely need it

An uphill grade with a 4000 lb Jeep is going to take less than 4000 lb to pull up the grade Did nobody teach you this in school It's a simple math equation You are correct with the obstructive forces possibly creating a situation where you have to pull it over something But when you're pulling it up a grade you will never exceed the weight of the load

I'm curious if anyone has an Apex 12000lb still unmounted and could share if there's any chance of packaging in two boxes and getting the main body down under 70lbs, with box (for priority mail to APO)? Shipping weight of the synthetic version is 8255lbs from HF Taking off the line should save about 5lbs, but not sure how much the hook, control box, remote and cables could save Thanks for any help!

I have had mine on for a year Have literally warn out the first synthetic rope and zero issues I typically hate on harbor freight but I’m impressed with the badland line and the icon tool line

I don't have the apex but the cheaper badlands zxr 12k lbs got for $280 I put it on a hitch mount to move around , put on synthetic rope, and a non metal fairlead It works just fine and doesn't sit out in weather bring it in on the hitch mount With the synthetic rope it doesnt bind up like a metal rope saving the motor Apex look nice but if on a budget the zxr for under $300 is a deal too

Good video! However, I noticed that you didn't pre-tension your line You should always unspool a synthetic line and respool it under tension Also better if you can leave it for awhile stretched right out under tension to take all the stretch out of the line If you pull hard on the outside wraps without pre-tensioning the bottom wraps BAD THINGS CAN HAPPEN!

I would install the battery disconnect, if I'm doing some serious off roading, I air down my tires and do a quick check on my engine components and fluid levels I would turn on the power to the winch at that time

Btw the switch is meant to separate a second battery from the charging system You want to disconnect a secondary battery to avoid phantom discharge phenomenon from your primary battery

I would suggest beefing up the mounting plate to make it stronger I've seen that flex and flex the winch and it cracks up on the top of the winch because wimpy bumpers

An oversized wimch is always better than undersized will run cooler and last longer And as you say being stuck puts more strain on the winch than just what the vehicle weights

You talked about weight should have mentioned for each layer of line on the drum you loose pull power so 12000 is only when winch is empty spooled all line out so only 12k for first 10ft of pull
