i always wished i'd been taught way earlier that Am and C are the same *^$ing scale! and that all major and minor chords are tied together like this i remember that being a huge deal to find out when i was trying to get better at my scales and soloing, it's so obvious once you know it or if you come from a theory background, but it wasn't obvious to me growing up with a guitar Comment from : floppsy b |
Having a teacher is a great help for sure Comment from : Robert Dodd |

I love the no wrong notes thing As someone who grew up playing piano (properly trained in theory and sheet reading) and has spent plenty of time in DAWs, it always amazes me how strictly bedroom producers would stick to one specific key I was very used to seeing naturals in piano sheets and soft tempo changes (which don't work almost at all in MIDI programming) and it always really felt like everyone was following the WWHWWWH / WHWWHWW rule without knowing why It's nice that guitar is naturally less rigid than piano (bends/slides/slurs, plus the harmonic gaps between strings) because that stuff comes so naturally with it Comment from : FreshTurns |
Play guitar like you whistle You never focus on your lips, tongue, whatever when you whistle You just whistle what you want to hear and it works Comment from : Isopropyl91 |

the biggest thing that i wish i knew sooner was, you can learn any song, and you should learn stuff that is way outside your comfortable playing level It is very hard for me to find new things to learn on guitar, partially because I just don't think I'm good enough to play some songs that i think are cool But I finally learned to just learn it no matter how difficult it is to play all it takes is time and practice, but anyone can play anything And usually songs that are very difficult for you to play will teach you an extremely valuable skill or just make you a better player in general Comment from : PassionateMelon |
great vid, do one with number five you're right and i hate it Comment from : suirall |
I disagree with the one regarding better guitars and gear But let me limit this to guitar Paul's example is someone who jammed a SRV song with a cheap guitar If you are jamming a SRV song with any guitar - a cheap one even - you're already well on your way in your playing so yeah, guitar won't matter to that dude All of the great guitar players look back and make this comment - guitar quality doesn't matter Like rich guys saying money doesn't matter lol You never hear a new guitar player say that or an average guitar player "Beginner guitar" makes me cringe Start with an easy to play GOOD guitar and you'll be on your way faster (Squires are great) Lame guitars with high action and poor intonation are not a lot of fun Actually, if you're going to be able to play at all, that will be established in 2 minutes so you'll find a way to make it fun - true - as in my case, I could play Sister Ray pretty quickly on my 5 string piece of junk lol But nice guitars are fun to play and inspiring You will become a better player faster if you don't have to start all over again on that cruel piece of junk every time you find yourself away from playing for a few days You can pick up a nice guitar and carry on quickly rather than spending 2 days on physical conditioning to sound okay on an impossible guitar There's only one pro out here who plays a Squire here online - a real one - not a 1k Squire Get your child a nicer guitar quickly once you establish the kid can play and wants to play If you are starting later in life - get a Strat Go all in Comment from : Joel Graham |

So, speaking about a guitar making a better player(No8) I believe that it actually does If you have a crappy instrument that crucifies your fingers or sounds awful you don't want to play When I finally bought a guitar with some reasonable action I WANTED TO PLAY and picked it up much more often And yes it made me better Comment from : David Robbins |
