Good point, about retirement being more than just about money I know too many people that fell into a doing nothing routine, and it effected and still effects their health Once you stop moving it seems life stops Those that are healthy and going strong into their late 80s and I even know someone in her later 90s still going, have stuff to do They volunteer, they have dogs that force them to go out and walk and that encourages socializing I know a woman that plays cards every few days to keep her mind going I know a woman in her 50s that stopped working in her late 30s and lives like an old lady in a home She doesn't do anything but stuff around the house but talks all the time about what she will eventually do, only she never does I am not sure when I will collect ss but I won't stop working, I need to for the money but even if I won the jackpot lottery I would have to work somewhere, or volunteer, because I want to have somewhere to go at least a few days a week Comment from : Ester Drass |

Im Under 40 and i tried semi retirementIve made older friends in my journey throughout life to understand, and ive seen my older family just be bored until death with years wasted and penny pinchingi never wanted to go down that path, so ive taken time off between jobs throughout the years to enjoy hobbies and family with 2-3yrs on a job and 1 year off and the 1yr off always left me lostid go back to work and realized my passion was always to have my own business, i work on ideas, Different things, it hasn't been successful but i never give up knowing one day ill achieve it, it drives me knowing ill be helping others and passing the knowledge on day, even towards my kids so i work and work on my business ideas to have goals because its not just money as you mentioned, its to live life fully Comment from : The Fas Life |

Without knowing this point: transition brI’m doing it without the advise: I moved from full time to part timebrbrAlways working all my life since 20 yo in management so at age 55 I retired from management brTook a job where I did training and certification tests full time thought it wouldn’t be that stressful but I copedbrSo now I’m in my 60brRequested a part time as a certificate tester and on my way to retirement but taking it easy and getting used to the change yo let go at 63 brIm already traveling, doing excercise, enjoying my grandkids etc while part timingbrbrNext step letting go the part time- I knew I wouldn’t like to resign without doing a transition - so far it’s working!brI don’t miss the full time 😂 Comment from : Just viewing! |

I retired at 56 from my corporate job to continue running my successful rental real estate business The company I worked for was bought by a bigger company that I did not want to work for The biggest mistake I made was under estimating the governments ability to destroy my business with eviction bans and regulations Now, at 61 I am struggling financially to reach 62 in order to be eligible for 70 of my Social Security that I paid into since I was 16 SS won't even cover my rent It looks like I will have to get 2-3 minimum wage jobs to supplement my meager SS just to survive Or, I can take my SS overseas and live like a king with the lower cost of living Hmmmm Comment from : X Files |

66 yrs old, retiring in a just a few weeks; many years leading multidisciplinary teams delivering complex strategic business transformation projects I love the work, still got the energy to do it as well as ever BUT today's working environment is no longer recognisable to me for many reasonsI'm fortunate because I can turn myself to just about anything Majority of millennials and Gen-Z don't have a clue, but won't listen to seasoned experienced old hands like me - good riddance, and good luck in your entitled victimhood (you're going to need it) Comment from : CGO22 |
|
At my workplace I've never so many people in their 70's and 80's coming back to work Mostly healthcare costs is primary reasons If you can afford and budget to retire early by all means do it I'm 58 but I see myself working several more years yet due to not saving and getting into the 401K late in life I've been able to do anything I wanted while still working I don't see myself slowing down At 66/67 Life for me will be as fun as I can make it while working full time I don't want to budget my money at this point Life is too fun than just sit at home This is for all you people out there that didn't or couldn't save while busting your hump for low pay for many years Good luck to every one out there and enjoy life! t's recommended to save at least 15 of your income in a 401k You can use online calculators to estimate how much you should save based on your age and income Saving at least 15 of your income in a 401(k) can help ensure that you have enough money to retire comfortably By saving this much, you can take advantage of compound interest and potentially grow your retirement savings over time don't think I could retire with less than $3m in income generating investments and i'm not talking 401k, maybe $2m at the very minimum I plan to work until I'm at least 45 Comment from : Sherry Brooks |
|
If you had to return to work, you weren't fit for retirement It's just bad planningbrFirst of all, you need to live within your means, and that doesn't mean spend every penny you have Spend money only when necessary, and get the best deals you canbrI have been living on between $1000 and $2000 of grocery a year for 20 years now People always see that as a challenge Buying when items are on sale is the magic This week I just stocked up 40 lbs of boneless, skinless chicken breasts at $177 a pound I buy 20 lbs of medium grain rice for $1088 I grow my own vegetables in 6 feet by 6 feet backyard farm I receive $30,000 a year social security payment and save 50 of it Comment from : P Wu |
|
One thing for sure when you retire is to keep moving Do nothing and your health deteriorates quickly Comment from : Luftwaffe65 |

Maybe you might have to be a carer for your wife with MS for the next 26 years She wasn't able to ambulate for the last 15 years I had to earn how to cook, use a hoist, wheelchair, powerdrive, lost of cleaning up She has now passed That was my experience after I retired early She was very accepting I am gay I am not looking for a husband, but my life is very different now I walk 11,000 steps a day Comment from : Ron Smith |

I retired on May 3rd, when I turned 62 Everyone I worked with assured me that I would be back I sensed jealousy and dread as they thought about this day What will you do? How can you not work? These people can't see a day such as this I feel bad for them (most of them) The key is to have a plan and have a backup plan as well as this guy mentioned It is daunting You wake up and NO WORK, something you have done for 50 years or so(for me) I do plan to work part time 2-3 days a week doing something different, taking my sweet time searching I still get texts asking when i'm coming backI just laugh and laugh !! Comment from : Joseph Esposito |

I admire the financial independence of people, But you can live better if you work a little more After watching this I think there are people out there, on the extreme, who plan to die early just to be able to retire early To each their own but to me retirement isn't just about not having to work, it's about having the freedom to do whatever you might reasonably want, such as travel, buying things, enjoying life, etc I don't think I could retire with less than $3m in income generating investments, maybe $2m at the very minimum I plan to work until I'm at least 45 Comment from : Sensational |
|
This is a great vid with wonderful advice I am 57 and I have been working from home for 8 years and i love it What i learned from the pandemic is how to save and how precious life truly is! I am lookkng to retire, but the only thing that gives me pause is money and health insurance I do not have any serious health issues, however I like being prepared Of course as you age it is very important Also having money to me means security and being able to do what i want My hubby has been retired and he keeps telling me that I need a plan!! We are debt free so I want to go for it at the end of this year Just need to plan how I will fill me days! Comment from : margo wilson |

Instead of dying from a heart attack, stroke, or diabetes after years of working in an office environment, it's better to die peacefully and relaxed in retirement with enough money for humbly life, even cats prefer to die alone Comment from : Food Lover |

I spent most of my 20's being unemployed (my country has decent welfare system, which anyone can use), but even though I had all that time I didn't really know what to do with it I jogged and lifted weights here and there, maybe played some video games, but as more time passed I just didn't do anything anymore, just laid on couch waiting to die basically I work now and everything feels so much better, like free time, that friday wine and ordering Indian food just feels so good Comment from : Retroman94 |

Great vid, the way I see it when I look at my peers who are on the fence about retirement is several things, 1 they don't want to be home with their significant other so they would rather continue to work which is a SMH moment, 2 they didn't plan well financially because of a new car/truck summer beach home 401k dropped / crashed because they were extremely aggressive with funds til the end so they have to continue to work, 3 they have no life outside of work no social skills even with a neighbor or family so they feel like their work is their life which to me is disturbing, 4 they're scared because it's like they feel as if now they have to start talking to people I get it, it's hard for some easy for others but man what I witness now is some people really need to get a grip and understand you don't live to work you work to live and life shouldn't be lived at work it's at home or within yourself your soul and loved ones Comment from : MikolF |
