Maybe worth taking some good advice here with players that have short fingers, well worth viewing youtube/BKHYTY8tRVc Comment from : paul ec |
What advice do you have for short fingered guitarist who have difficulty with the little finger reaching across using all four fingers across the frets to practice scales, I’ve always found it difficult to span the fretboard with the little finger and find it very uncomfortable to play even with thumb correctly positioned Perhaps the text books can be rewritten where it is acceptable to use 4 or 5 strings to learn scales Most new players with short fingers would give up on the text book theory’s trying and learning to play guitar to uncomfortably stretch and make slow progress plus the agony of hardening the finger tips Lots of advice from on YouTube by flashy playing long fingered guitarist, See this link youtube/bgnFoiqXA8s as this may help Comment from : paul ec |

I never play whilst standing Never really thought about it much, either Maybe it's because I'm always alone when I have the guitar out Maybe I'm just that lazy I honestly don't even know what would happen if I stood up while playing a tune I tried singing and playing once Once I'd hate to think of the damage I could cause should the results of my attempt to stand and play be anywhere near as catastrophic as my attempt to sing and play! I’ve had the desire to learn guitar most of my life A couple years ago, my wife bought me a Squire strat, a small digital practice amp and the “game” RockSmith I gave that a go for a few months until I just became increasingly frustrated I’ve since picked it back up a couple months ago and I’m close to that same point of frustration now I’ve spoken with an instructor and believe I’m going to start private lessons very soon I believe it’s the theory and exercises that I’m lacking These are things that RockSmith is not very good at I kick myself for laying the guitar down two years ago I’m sure that had I not, I would actually be able to “play” a decent bit at this point brbrThank you for these videos Comment from : my87z28 |

After several years of trying to play guitar I recently realized I am simply not smart enough to play guitar I can't memorize anything, have little concentration, and am tone deaf I tried and tried It continues to amaze me how pro guitar players can memorize all those songs The instructors recognize I am absolutly stupid with the guitar You tube vids did not help I'm in my 40's and am getting rid of my gear I realized that guitar is not for everyone! Perhaps I will have better luck with the kazoo! Comment from : Art T |

Just wondering what you think about positioning when one has been playing guitar for numerous years but wakes up paralyzed from mid-chest down at 21 years of age I'm having serious trouble finding a way to play in a comfortable position I was previously, before paralysis, used to playing with body of guitar between legs and neck angled in an upward angle like many flamenco players So you don't have to stretch out your arm to reach the fingerboard Sort of like the position you recommend But my legs are like chop sticks and my butt is practically non-existent When I tried to play with the body of the guitar between my legssort of close to my crotch and the fingerboard in a angled upward position my legs slowly move outward or inward, forcing my other leg to move in the same position Being paralyzed from mid-chest down has become a serious impediment to my bringing back my electric guitar playing I've been staying with dreadnaught style acoustic guitar since I first became paralyzed The general thickness and height of a dreadnought helps me to lean forward without losing balance and the low weight helps to allow me to hold the guitar as close as possible so I don't have to stretch my arm out, causing me to loose balance I just picked up my old epiphone les paul a few weeks ago and have been absolutely frustrated to no end since I first decided to pick up my electric after so many years (36 years) Have you had any thoracic level paraplegics ask you about how to return to playing electric guitar with regard to finding a way to find a comfortable and stable position so playing does not become a chore but rather a true pleasure? I'd also like to use a bunch of pedal fx but I'm unable to move my legs since I'm totally paralyzed I've been wondering about how a paralyzed electric guitaristthis sounds like an oxymoron to meanyway, all I've been able to find for using non foot pedal guitar effects is a modeling amp head such as the line 6 Viper 240HC but these effects are digital and require many hours of reading directions and running through the various fx to find the tones one would like to utilize Any advice would be truly appreciated Chappers Comment from : PEA-KID A K |
