Someone like this should NEVER be advised to stop contributing to his retirement, for any reason He reduced his contributions to only 1 of his income, and his debt burden went up In 10 yrs his debt will likely be 2x what it is now, and he'd have lost 10yrs worth of savings and employer matches He should max out retirement savings contributions, get full employer match, while dealing with the debt

we live on a fixed income & what $ we DO have is BARELY enough to pay what billsbrwe DO have & my ?BETTER 1/2 decided we needed a new car that we couldn't affordbrthat I spent 5 hrs trying to tell him we couldn't afford, but he didn't listen NOW he'sbrtrying to figure out what to do to keep the bills paid & comes to ME with HIS problemsbrwe don't have but a mortgage of 500 a month a NEW 2013 car 400 a month & that's brthe 2 BIGGEST bills we have & he makes like ALMOST 2000 a month but we have the br2 water & power bills on this place 3-600 a month & the phone, cable, & internet @ 200bra month & he has 2 credit 1 cards maxed at 400 each he pays like 100 a month (50$ ea) brnot to mention our life ins bills that isn't THAT much but still a BILL of a 100$ between usbrbrI know you won't reply back I just thought I'd tell you whats going on what would you suggest?

I agree with everything Ramsey said especially the withholdings except for the 401k contributions That's free money available with any match his employer offers If he stops that, he potentially misses out on thousands of dollars With the new deduction to offset his net, he shouldn't miss the contributions

I am so glad I found Dave Ramsey I have always been ok with no incurring so much debt but now I really am on a plan and have a great guide It is so sad that so many people think that loans, credit cards, cars, don't have to be paid for All of that adds up and quick especially with interest I don't have to please anyone rolling around in a fancy car or have a huge tv (I don't even watch Tv) This is what everyone's problem is thinking they need to "look" successful or thinking they don't have to pay anyone back or they "deserve" it They deserve the debt if they think this way
