Nice presentation Lads!

Joseph Kysylyczyn
great video but sorry to say Scott is a ripoff for entry level, Id go triban all the way, disc brake, tiagra groupset, possible thru axle etc
Comment from : Joseph Kysylyczyn

Darron Brewster
The trek alpha was my first road bike and it still rides well today
Comment from : Darron Brewster

Ailenduril
Would Merida Speeder 500 be a good buy at 1050€?
Comment from : Ailenduril

Pierre Z
just change cassette to 11-32

Sandcat87
This is NOT an entry level bike price-point, but it is an entry level bike In 2020 I bought a Giant Contend 2 from 2018 but new, from an authorised dealer (lifetime warranty on the aluminium frame), for £460 including shipping That's HALF the price of this bike The Contend 2 has Shimano Claris groupset (better than the Tourney on the Scott shown), it has a carbon fork (better than the aluminium on the Scott), it has a pressure relief channel saddle, it has an 11-34 cassette (which solves the issues they talk about for low gearing up hills compared to the Scott's 11-28 cassette with both chainsets being 50-34), it weighs in at 95kg (the medium Scott which compares to mine is 105kg, a full 1kg or 10 heavier) Does the Scott even have mounting points for mudguards? My Giant Contend 2 does, making it an exemplary commuterbrbrSo tell me, why are we paying TWICE AS MUCH MONEY for a bike that's worse in every way than a bike from 3 years ago? I'm not talking about a bike from 1985 here or even 2010! Don't accept this nonsense, it's criminal what companies have been trying to get away with with inflation for corporate gainbrbrDo not buy this crap at this price!

Tarmac and cyclocross no gravel
As you lot are entry level cyclists pretty good I guess
Comment from : Tarmac and cyclocross no gravel

daniculé 86
Can I put those Hutchinson on any wheel?
Comment from : daniculé 86

الجاليه Aljaliah
In 2015 , I bought a Bianchi Vertigo RRP £1399 reduced to £950 Full carbon frame and fork , looked the part, had ten speed and specced with Reparto Corsa, FSA and Campagnolo parts on it Been looking out for the Italians to repeat that experience but to no avail
Comment from : الجاليه Aljaliah

kevin bourke
You English people pay waaaay too much for bicycles brYea ok I live in a land down under
Comment from : kevin bourke

Netec River | Netec Assassins
Havent seen a single channel talk about bikes that are £100-300? how is £900 entry level?
Comment from : Netec River | Netec Assassins

Ajeet Kanda
I am 5'6 Will i fit on this bike?
Comment from : Ajeet Kanda

Alex Hadfield
My current road bike is a 2014 Dawes Giro 200 with Tourney groupset, paid £100 for it second hand The only thing I'm really thinking of upgrading is the shifters, from the current butterfly to microshift/micronew Looked after properly, it'll last me a good few years
Comment from : Alex Hadfield

Héctor Lamaña i Sánchez
I'm considering my 1st ever road bike and I feel like it's pretty expensive, but of course, I know nothing about the materials, the quality of the build, the tires etc I don't even know how much I want to ride it yet, all I know is that I want to train for a triathlon and gradually get better
Comment from : Héctor Lamaña i Sánchez

scotchwolves
I have the 105 version of this bike and I love it
Comment from : scotchwolves

Colin Canyon
Any new bike with shimano tourney up to tiagra I believe is entry level, just depends on how much u want to spend 😉👍
Comment from : Colin Canyon

f f
I had the cheapest Walmart mountain bike and four years later it got stolen
Comment from : f f

Ron White
£900 for that spec bike is taking the p!ss! Learn basic spannering and buy second handthe big name brands are shooting themselves in the foot
Comment from : Ron White

Edgar Martinez
Yes I would consider that an entry level bike nowadays I agree, you should be able to spec parts from the manufacturer My first road bike was a 2013 Fuji Gran Fondo 15 C I got it in 2014 as a year end clearance for 2013 models
Comment from : Edgar Martinez

nemure
this bike is a scam You can find carbon fiber bikes with shimano 105 for 1200 and you can find which I do recommend alloy bikes with 105 for 800€br bikes with shimano tourney are on sell for 300€ under other brands and no, they won't be breaking or falling apart they are just not scamming under a big brand name
Comment from : nemure

gfjdhdfghfdjgf
£600 in 2009 is £91123 today

This would be a great bike for someone looking to get into the sport You can never be sure how much you'll enjoy something, so there's no need to spend thousands of dollars only to find out that bikes depreciate very quickly To that end, buying a better quality used bike that's maybe 4 or 5 years old is a great idea as well For that same $1,000, you could have something with at least a 105 group set if not Ultegra that maybe has a few minor blemishes Best to do your research or bring someone along who knows bikes if you're going to buy used though, as you need to know what you're looking at My first bike was a Scott Speedster 20 with a 105 group set All aluminum, used (about 4 years old) Guy had taken great care of it, and had just decided to buy a carbon bike He had paid about $1,700 for it new, I paid him $700 and he gave me some extras as well I still ride a Scott, but after three years on the Speedster I moved up to the Solace and that's what I'm still riding Great video guys! Love the fact that you're not one of those elitist channels that's primarily focused on high end everything
Comment from : Shep Shape

Rica
can you try kespor ultimate aero? or tokyobike sports 9s (although it doesn't fit your audience)
Comment from : Rica

Philip Denys
an entry level bike is a secondhand bike :p from there you decide to upgrade with a bigger budget by measuring your love for cycling :D
Comment from : Philip Denys

Joe Gugg
Back in the 90 s they used to ride those steel bikes this one looks very similar
Comment from : Joe Gugg

Christian Jonassen
Nice video! brMy first bike is a Companion G10 brGreat bike, with a 11-34T kassette and Sora gearset brI do have plans to upgrade the gravel tires to some race :)
Comment from : Christian Jonassen

Waygonner
My first proper bike was a ‘92ish Bridgestone MB-5 It was around $550 and had shimano deore dx components I rode it all over the Pacific Northwest until it was stolen in 1999 Still miss that bike!
Comment from : Waygonner

Dave Kimzey
Excellent video with great discussion and reasoning!
Comment from : Dave Kimzey

Fringie
I just bought a vitus zenium for £850 tiagra, carbon frame spyre disc brakes but they can be upgraded to semi hydrolic
Comment from : Fringie

Baud
would you recommend the scott or triban 520 ? Mind you i want to ride on taxc flux first wich the tourney only has 8 gears and that doesnt support it
Comment from : Baud

Cloxxki
Gear gaps are felt more by trained cyclists who've gotten toooooo used to a specific cadance I was real bad that way, raced 12-27 9spd on my MTB Shifted non-stop as a result and needed a shift to change velocity I got a singlespeed bike and found that in most instances, NOT shifting is the faster way through Better to train on big gap cassettes probably, to keep the legs' cadence range wide open You can fine tune in races
Comment from : Cloxxki

Adamas Oldblade
It's a double-edged sword Like any other hobby, it sucks to get into things at first because of money More than likely you're not going to enter a new hobby purchasing the best product simply due to you learning how expensive things can be, however if a hobby starts becoming a passion and you laser focus on it, you end up going after what you really care aboutbrbrThis being said, some of the cost of bikes is just insanely out of control I remember a week or so ago I was wanting to just see how much a certain type of bike was and the lowest possible price I could find was like, $4,000 (£3,160) I just started laughing, there's just no way I can afford that given all the other things I have to pay for and the lack of companies paying what workers deserve
Comment from : Adamas Oldblade

Ross
Boardman SLR 88 beats this hands down for the same price, Tiagra 10 speed drivetrain, disc brakes and a carbon fork Paying for the brand name here surely?!
Comment from : Ross

Daniel
But it's still really funny how medium-high range bikes cost as much as whole ass motorcycles
Comment from : Daniel

bobzilla211
Maybe prices have shot up a lot in a few years but that seems a lot of money to spend on a bike with tourney when you can get new bikes with sora + carbon forks for less
Comment from : bobzilla211

Bijuuka
On the german shimano site they don't even offer Tourney group sets anymore And for good reason
Comment from : Bijuuka

Ian Weston
Cube Peloton Race 2015 105 Groupset, 89kg £1000
Comment from : Ian Weston

Moonraker Deep
this is pricey :D an entry level bike is £50 rusted retro bike from gumtree, where you stick £60 ebay wheels on, clean it oil it and distroy all these halfrods £200 bikes on any road, for 900 bike should be perfect
Comment from : Moonraker Deep

VX 16 GAZ
Much better bikes for a hell of a lot less money
Comment from : VX 16 GAZ

Критичный пьяница
900 pounds for shimano tourney and aluminium fork? I have Sora and carbon fork for much less about 400 pounds But it's not made by a huge brand
Comment from : Критичный пьяница

Marcin
Yeah entry lvl bike from 700£-1000£
Comment from : Marcin

Marcin
My first was Cube with sora cost me 850£ in 2011
Comment from : Marcin

Sven Lima
I prefer mechanical disc brakes! Easier maintenance, cheaper, probably lighter
Comment from : Sven Lima

Sven Lima
The brand name "Schwalbe" must be pronounced "shwalbey" not "shwalb" Same like "Porsche" is not "porsh" but "porschey"
Comment from : Sven Lima

OleBih
Trek domane al2
Comment from : OleBih

Simon Bennett
I can't believe you only get 7s for £900!!
Comment from : Simon Bennett

Jonathan Chester
Honestly for the same money most people are better off buying 2nd hand
Comment from : Jonathan Chester

Jason Collins
My first road bike, a 2013 Vitus Zenium ZR (I think), was cheaper than that with a 105 group set and a carbon fork (with carbon steerer), still going strong a decade later with mostly original components
Comment from : Jason Collins

TARNE Jehovahson
£800 not even Claris fucking hell
Comment from : TARNE Jehovahson

Chris Bridgeman
When I was in the cycling club years ago everyone had benotto ribbon that strange thin candy coloured stuff Cork ribbon was a revelation and a bit aspirational for us broke kids when it came in I still buy it from force of habit, are you saying there's better stuff? Cheers!
Comment from : Chris Bridgeman

Ben
Scott raise the barrier for entry to new riders, along with every other short sighted manufacturer
Comment from : Ben

Mark Walker
Boardman slr86 has shimano claris 11-32 rear derailleur and cassette £650
Comment from : Mark Walker

muninm1
I think it's a bit better to buy a Triban RC 500 or a Van Rysel EDR AF105 Not much more money, far more better
Comment from : muninm1

Nick Cook
My first proper bike was an Al Carter Navajo back in like 1992 or 1993 I think?brbrNowadays it’s all carbon this and Ultegra that but I’ve never seen a carbon frame with a gyro or stunt pegs… Different bikes for different rides and all that 😉
Comment from : Nick Cook

G B
Are non electric bikes subsiding a race to the bottom for budget electric bike market? Or is the excuse still the pandemic? Having not looked at bikes for 5+ years I can't believe you're only getting a 7 speed 'tourney' for £900 That's insane! Last bike I bought in 2017 was a 2012 Giant Defy 1 advanced for £300 and to upgrade I would need to spend ££££'s
Comment from : G B

Mr Reewyyn
what riding glasses does he use?
Comment from : Mr Reewyyn

Guitar Sessions - Korbinian Schellenbaum
I bought a Merida Road 905 used for 220€ last year as my first Road Bike with Ultegra group set
Comment from : Guitar Sessions - Korbinian Schellenbaum

(1) Couldn't agree more that most bikes are geared too high! The amount of time I would be in the top gear of your bike (50 over 11) is miniscule vs the amount of time I would be in the low gear (34 over 28) Why not make the cassette like 16-34?br(2) re low-end pricing: A few years ago, I walked into a bike shop that had two beautiful new FUJI road bikes hanging on the wall (maroon, light blue), with classic 10-speed looks for 60,000 yen ($600) each I passed them by and still regret that decision!
Comment from : J B

Dave Moss
34/28 is a pretty low gear for the road, when you only have 7 to play with a bigger rear cog would not be great The 11 is a bit silly though, 13 would be a better smallest cog
Comment from : Dave Moss

AlexBehemot
That Scott is very expensive for an entry level, and even worse it has a very basic gear group, for less than that you can buy a Trek Domane AL2 with a Shimano Claris R2000 2x8 group, also rim brakes, I'm not totally sure but I think the fork is carbon, and for a little more you can buy the AL2 Disk with mechanical disc brakes and that one does have a carbon fork, also a Shimano Claris group, and is lighterbrbrAnd even better is the Giant Contend 1 that comes with Shimano Sora group, rim brakes, both the Trek Domane AL2 (Rim and Disk versions) and the Giant Contend 1 are available for less than £850, really that Scott is not a very good buy
Comment from : AlexBehemot

a3lfeoxld
My first bike is a Trek Marlin 7, I got for around 490 pounds new as it is a gen 2 and they were on sale as they were bringing in the gen 3 I did do upgrades to it though Made the rims tubeless (they were tubeless ready) and put Continental Race King tyres on it Swapped out the crankset for a Shimano Deore M5100-1, as the stock was a square taper one with a shitty BB Also, put better pedals on it, changed the saddle and got ARC hubs as they are sealed Definitely entry level for a mountain bike, but still needed to upgrade it
Comment from : a3lfeoxld

Ethan Allsopp
Would love to see a review on the Boardman SLR 88 brbrThink I’m going to pull the trigger on it for my first road bike but would like to see what you guys think
Comment from : Ethan Allsopp

Eduardo
Quite expensive for an entry level bike these days I bought my Specialized Allez 2015 at €650 with Claris groupset I upgraded it after 22K km two years ago with Campagnolo Centaur groupset + Campagnolo Scirocco wheels and still riding it Weighs approximately 9kg now Not bad IMO for an alloy bike from 2015
Comment from : Eduardo

SD A-G
God I'll invest the £100 more into the Canyon Endurace 6 RB AL which has Tiagra groupset
Comment from : SD A-G

Hannessomething
Just a couple years ago I bought my first real road bike 250 euros bought me a mid '90s alloy bike with Shimano 105 3x8 The bars and saddle were horrible, changed them in a heartbeat but the rest was really solid rode nice and smooth, and shifting was fast and reliable with Microshift brake/shift combo levers with the 105 derailleurs Did a few thousand km's of commuting and recreational riding on it, totally loved it until I found a major crack along the length of the steerer tubebrbrNow I built up a neo-retro bike with a Columbus SLX steel frame and semi-modern components with a classic look, and absolutely love that 94kg, quite comfortable, decently fast and ohh myyyy handling to dream of, totally rips around corners as if it's on rails which are guided by my thoughts
Comment from : Hannessomething

Nelson Sherry
Yes, I would consider this an entry level bike as opposed to even less expensive "repel level" bike
Comment from : Nelson Sherry

MualaW
Guys, could you make a video for what bike to buy under 1000$ ? I'm new to cycling, and currently looking for a bike to cycle 46 KM each day
Comment from : MualaW

D Gillies
900£ is really a ripoff for that bike £100 for the group set, 300£ frame £500 profit and Scott is laughing all the way to the bank!
Comment from : D Gillies

D Gillies
42cm bars on a small bike shows Scott doesn't know what they're doing or don't care, "hey Joe what do we have in the leftover bin for our entry level 2023 bike?" Answer: 42cm bars
Comment from : D Gillies

D Gillies
Bike looks like sheit The 2009 bike crushes this new one in the looks dept!
Comment from : D Gillies

George Kourouklaris
Way 2 much for an alu bike with fookin derailleur and conventional brakes (which is the only feature from it that I love, can't stand fookin ugly, expensive and heavy disc brakes)
Comment from : George Kourouklaris

Rowan
£899 for tourney is crazy
Comment from : Rowan

Mprip84
This Scott speedster 50, is my first and still current bike 🙂 I am happy with it, since it didn't cost all that much I do however have my eye on a few much more expensive and better bikes though Maybe in a year or two I'll upgrade
Comment from : Mprip84

SuperJoeTendo
What cycling gear were you wearing? Looks super cool
Comment from : SuperJoeTendo

markohju8764
Quite a heavy bike, so I would say it would need a 32 for the hills

F YUEN
The first bike I bought is Reid Falco Advanced road bike in 2016 It is a Australian local brand I found it quite high in CP value I got it for a discounted price for AUD$699 from $999 with free locks, pumps, bell and front and rear lights It has 2x10 105 groupset (5600 series) front and rear and tektro brakes I think it is a bit outdated with 5600 series in 2016 and that's why they're doing the discount But for a beginner perspective, I didn't see any disadvantages Although I haven't ride it after a year of buying it, I still love my bike and started riding again recently and it still feels wonderful to me!
Comment from : F YUEN

richard carr
l think there s better deals to be had for that kinda money with way better groupsets with more gears!! tourney is for department store bikes !! l d even rather see Micro Shift options with more gearing would make a better option for new cyclists
Comment from : richard carr

carlos diaz
My first bike was a cannonade caad12 with 105 rim break and was probably the best bike I’ve ever had Got stollen at a coffee shop They really don’t make bike like the use too I got mine for 1,200 dollar and while that’s definitely on the higher end of eatery level it was def worth it The bike was on sale as well when regular price is around 1,800
Comment from : carlos diaz

woolum
track at 501?
Comment from : woolum

MrBoggins1234
I would buy second hand and service it myself
Comment from : MrBoggins1234

Christopher Price
@3:23 i can relate [you already know] The rollers impart more resistance and slow to a stop much faster It is like 20 psi(e, 700x36c@38psi vs 55+psi) less and lubing everything with park grease Rollers also force you to hold a more comfortable yet steady position which when applied to normal road cycling, increases the 'fit' of the bike,, sortof
Comment from : Christopher Price

Trybo
That 3x9 trek probably had 30/25 bottom gear, which is pretty similar to 34/28 this scott has
Comment from : Trybo

Claudio Trajtemberg
Shimano Tourney is and always be a scam
Comment from : Claudio Trajtemberg

M3KAL
My first one and still riding now is the specialized Allez e5, its great for me, changed the tyres to gp all good
Comment from : M3KAL

Just Some Dude
I agree with the mechanical disc, such a pain I would choose rim over mechanical disc My first real bike was a Schwinn Continental I got used in 1975
Comment from : Just Some Dude

Craig Green
This topic comes up time&time again There's more to it than price or spec Ditching some cheap tyres, having it setup by a pukka mechanic & swapping to decent (shimano cables) makes a massive difference Not a rant at the video but hoping to influence anyone unsure or staring out An expensive bike maintained by a chimp would be worse
Comment from : Craig Green

Renan P Jenie
in Indonesia, entry level bikes price is under GBP 200, intermediate under GBP 400, and everything above are called high end bikes 😂😂😂
Comment from : Renan P Jenie

The Antiaircraft
Back in 2016-2017 I got myself a Cannondale CAAD Optimo 105 that I paid $1080 USD, which comes close to £900 you paid for the Scott Speedster Great bike, and I beat it up badly since I was a new cyclist and wiped out a few times on it I still have it to this day, and it functions great I still ride it, alongside the CAAD12 Ultegra I acquired later at a used salebrbrPrices aren't getting cheaper, but there are still deals to be found if we're patient with the processbrbrThanks for sharing your experience with this!
Comment from : The Antiaircraft

stevegeek
Nice vid 6 years ago I bought a Pinnacle Laterite 3 as a winter / commuting bike, new from Evans but on eBay and paid about £400!!! It came with alloy frame, Shimano 105 groupset, rim brakes and carbon forks and weighed about 95kg Cracking bike Only issue was the headset which failed after lots of wet rides and was an odd size so I couldn't get replacement sealed bearings to fit I now have it set up on the turbo for Zwift I have a Specialized Tarmac costing nearly 10x as much, but I had just as much fun riding the cheap bike tbh
Comment from : stevegeek

John Nunn
Perhaps the maker puts those high gears on, so idiots think they are buying a pro-rider’s bike?
Comment from : John Nunn

H C
Something to add a lot of people have cycle to work schemes Meaning you’d get from 25-40 discounts I think this is why entry level price has gone up
