I'm a banking Compliance Manager in this very field for 18 years and what's going on in this industry is regulatory pressures from State/Fed Examiners related to derisking a bank's portfolio As a fellow stacker, banks do not want to do business with Non-Bank Financial Institutions aka Coin shops Coin shops are inherently high risk and subject to a lot of scrutiny by Compliance within the bank As you mentioned in the video, Coin shops, at least legitimate ones are subject to BSA/AML scrutiny, are required to carry, maintain and produce documents around training, validation, audits, etc which banks no longer want to do Even if your bank understands your business model from a KYC perspective, depending on the volumes of cash (in or out), especially if you’re moving more than $50k/year in sales (essentially nothing), the compliance costs far outweighs the bank's profit on the relationship so they resort to derisking by opting to close your accounts You're right, a bank at any time, can close your account for any reason and you're lucky that your bank gives you a 30-day heads up There is zero tolerance for BSA violations and it's hard to function a coin shop without a bank account My prediction is that your volume of activity exceeds your bank’s risk appetite Comment from : huezoslb |
