I've always been told that DMPLs in old holders were a lot more lenient than in modern holders No surprises in this video

So if you get a coin “reholdered” you can get a crappy dmpl in a modern holder with the same grade ? I’m assuming the answer is yes, so even in a new holder you can have a “gradeflation” dmpl

Those TPG's were VERY generous on those first 3 grades I'm almost certain they wouldn't get DMPL today PCGS and NGC seem to be giving the PL for the old DMPL standards, and DMPL to only unbelievable mirrored coins with stunning cameo where you can read letters from 10 inches away

Yeah it’s weird how the numerical grade has become more lenient but the designations for coins have been graded for conservatively over the years

Same thing has happened with the Red and Red/Brown designations over the years There are a lot of ugly coins in old pcgs and ngc Red labeled holders That’d make a great video Ben

Take a laser light to them and you can find out if its DMPL or PL Its amazing to see what this light does on the surfaces!brUltraviolet or a bright blue fluorescent light will work Naked eye can not

The preparation process for the dies changed I believe in 1891 so that cameo appears very infrequently in later date Morgans like in the 1897
