A star is a better designation than a PL? I thought PL was far better than a star grade A star I thought was just for a coin with exceptional eye appeal, including a coin that might be a strong proof like obverse but barely any PL on the reverse kind of thingwhereas PL needs strong reflectivity on both sides to earn that grade I guess I was wrong because TheCoinGeek knows 100x more than I do

I think that the 86S appears to be a 63- and lucky to get it with those hits and abrasionsNice luster as you say but that is not good enough The 79s was a total risk

I don't understand how the 86-S is an 83 but the 79-S is a 64 or 65 Both graders gave it the same 63, which is nuts The fields are nearly perfect and the cheek has minimal chatter Nice die polish marks on the reverse

You might as well quit breaking out the coins, because you are just losing money doing this! Also you need to report the coins you break out so PCGS and NGC can keep an accurate count on the population!

It seems to me that NGC uses star designations very infrequently Cracking a coin out to try to get a star seems like a losing game to me But maybe it will work eventually

Word on the street (and from personal experience), NGC is making it MUCH harder to get the Star I have to agree with that decision because they used to give stars to very average toned coins It really has to be a WOW! coin now

There's a lot of 1879S Morgans like yours pl ms65 That was a good yearThat 1886s is a nice 63 , those morgans if they have bag marks they won't give you a good grade , the cheek gets you every timeusually 65's get clean cheeks ,too much $ for me Nice coins!
