Great exercises as ever brOne thing I do which I think is also essential and and extremely helpul that Marty hasn't had time to mention in this video is to learn all these ascending , extended scales using open strings on the first 3 frets brIf you play any style of unamplified acoustic guitar, bluegrass , blues etc this is essential brI always try to transpose any progression I have that ascends the neck and learn it this way also between the 1st to 3rd frets incorporating open strings I don't just mean the standard pentatonis scales we learn , I try to do it for ANY progression I create even If all of the progression doesn't always naturally fit best there it makes you extremely confident and able to improvise on those first 3 frets using open strings in your licks and scalesbrAnd it means of course using a capo you basically a scale in any key using open strings simply by moving the capo up the neck brI know this is a blue grass fundamental of course but its so useful for ANY guitar style, as Iy teaches you not to be frightened of using open strings in solos or scales

Hey Marty, I am just a novice and love your lessons I play the guitar "left-handed" It is very easy to see the chords you play like I am looking in a mirror All the chord formations and notes I play are NOT with my left hand I wish someone could tell me why I am called "left-handed" and everyone who plays chords and notes with their left hand is "right-handed"

the pentatonic scale that you did on 3rd fret, is that a C minor pentatonic or a C major pentatonic I think it is a C minor since C major is determined by the "pinky" so Am I right or wrong? I hope I am right

Jamming on the train from innsbruck to Verona with some Australian guys back in the 80s I had a beautiful Washbourne acoustic that I bought in Switzerland 🇨🇭 anyway we Played some of The Heist Songs and we decided to get out of the window climb onto the train roof in our underwear and we hypnotised the train driver by selling his filty old knickers with a serious smell of randy beaver juice it was just amazing

Alternate picking on scales helps tremendously, it's funny you could start out plucking away and if you do it for a few hours you will be blasting away I came to this revelation one day when I tried to learn the solo to quiet riot, and I was like wow he's just basically shredding a scale lol

Something I used to do religiously, and still do occasionally: Practice all those Index-Ring finger Pentatonic excercises, only using the 2nd and 4th fingers Works for me, or used to work before I got old and lazy

When it comes to the extended pentatonic, I can play going up the scale fine but going back down???? Is he pulling off or alternate picking that fast???? Please explain Marty I'm an idiot and can't tell what your doing no matter how I slow it down or watch
