The fact is, you only need around 2000 to 2500 kanji characters to pass the N1 level (to be considered fluent) You can learn hiragana and katakana in 20 days or less; they are quite easy As for "keigo," you can learn it over time It's not necessary to start learning "keigo" right when you begin learning Japanese You can stick to a more casual form of speech until you reach an intermediate level Comment from : ¡!斉藤あやか☆

technically, there are 50,000 Kanji but you only have to know 2,000 (and 6,000 vocab) to be able to read fluently The rest are in people's names There are two alphabets and the third isn't an alphabet but a logograph system As for 50 different ways, I've only encountered 5 readings for one Kanji Comment from : curlyfriesareawesome
