Would this be the equivalent of asking spanish speaking natives to read similar languages like Portuguese, different languages from spain, latin even etc Because As a medium level spanish speaker I can catch 3 words out of a 5 word sentence from another country and figure out the general meaning, would this be sort of what they are doing here?

When I moved from Japan to China, I could only speak Japanese I could not really speak to people on the streets but I could recognize many characters on shop signsbrI could make myself understood by writing but there was often a usage difference that made it a bit weirdbrFor example, if I wanted an egg in my soup, I would write the 卵 - waiters would understand, but in Chinese it has a meaning closer to ovary 😅brNow it's the opposite, my Chinese is fluent but I lost my Japanese lolbrBtw the third sentence is a bit weird I think it should be 请在图书馆保持安静 or 在图书馆时

Modern Chinese and Japanese actually have a lot of similarities, because when Chinese scholars translated western books into Chinese, more than 100 years ago, they borrowed a lot of Japanese words (which were invented as a result of translation, as well), such as 社会，经济（経済），电话（電話），艺术（芸術）

給他們看簡體中文就是個錯誤的選擇，簡體字裡面捨棄了很多中文字的意思，繁體字是「麵」，簡體字是「面」br麵是麵粉的相關字，面是臉的意思，還有繁體字的「愛」裡面有心，簡體字的「爱」卻沒有心。

Even a same word in Japanese and Chinese can have totally different meaning When I visited Japan, I saw a subway station name which is 我孫子 I guess in Japanese that just means a place or a name, but in Chinese, it means my grandson BTW, JR Shinjuku station was like a labyrinth to me, so many entrances and exits

I think Japanese would more recognize the traditional chinese writing rather than the simplified writing My great grandfather can communicate with Japanese student soldier by writing traditional Chinese words due in the Japanese invasion war They even maintain the relationship through written letters after the world war 2 The simplified chinese writing only implemented after liberation war due in the literacy campaign Many Asian countries whom inheritance old Chinese culture were only use and recognize the traditional writing

汉字 actually has been evolution for lot of times for simplifying the form to be easier for writing simple Chinese is the latest form evolution in recent centrul however hongkong Taiwan Macau Japan were not using simple Chinese, because evolution happened in mainland China

When it comes to reading Kanji , the Japanese can still guess what it means in Chinese The issues are context and whether read as in Kun or On reading it does make a difference The good part of Kanji used by the Japanese majority still retained the traditional forms so can still second guess when it comes to simplified forms
