what about trying to use the salaries and prices in Rome to estimate how much gold was in the economy, minus the Far Eastern Trade, I would say most of it remained or at least returned to Europe again by the Post-Early-Colonial period though, to my knowledge, the vast majority of gold in the pre-Industrial world was from the Inca, this vast influx being only being surpassed by Siberian, South African, Mid-Asian & other golds by the second decade of the 20th century

I think the estimates in this video are conservative The only basis I have for this is the dilution of gold and silver content in coinage, the refusal of foreign nations to accept the debased currency and the constant complaints of historians and contrmporsries of the drain of Roman gold for luxury items
