Rebecca
Misinformation There is no evidence of Indo-European spoken in the British Isles until Roman occupation brWhy?brbrLet me explain brbr In their writings about the Province they named 'Britannia', 'Britons' is how the Romans refer to its citizens brThere is no ethnic people who ever called themselves "Britons"brbr'Brythonic' is the local Latin dialect of 'Britannia ' When Catholicism spread acrost the Isles in later Centuries, this form of 'pidgin' Latin spread with itbrThat's how you get Gaelic languages brbrIn the 1700s, some French novelist decided it would be a fun idea to give Gaelic languages the label "Celtic", in reference to the Latin word 'Celtis' which means 'Chisel 'brbrWhy? Truthfully its Irelevant The point is this Latin word has no historical association with language or ethnicity brbrSo you can rest assured, whenever you hear this word mentioned in a pre modern context, that you are being mislead in some fashion
Comment from : Rebecca

Thomas Evans
Shit I get it , was a humorous reference to the Arthurian legend…right?brAnd here I am answering like you were talking about ritual deposition of bronze objects in water during Iron Age

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords IS a good basis for a system of government
Comment from : JustMe

Cry Havoc!, and let slip the dogs of war
Seems pretty sensible for bronze swords to hang around for a couple of centuries after iron became the hot stuff, after all they doesn't rust, are a pretty well known quantity and probably also rather cheap to acquire Heck, I certainly would have gotten me a bronze sword or two Even if I ended up not wanting it anymore, it makes for a good sacrifice too!
Comment from : Cry Havoc!, and let slip the dogs of war

Comment from : sess

sess
I can see the story of the Lady in the Lake coming from someone stumbling upon a skeleton in a lake that died clutching their sword and landing on the bottom in just the right way for their body to decay, while the sword was stuck tip up, so when the water evaporated a bit, all you would see is a skeletal hand seeming to hold a sword up out of the water 🤔🤷
Comment from : sess

JC Owens
Many misunderstand the relationship between bronze & iron Until you get to steel it wasn't all that much better Yes it was in some ways but less so in others Bronze seems to have been associated w/ the sun as well which gave it more significance However as far as performance iron basically only gave 1 major benefit in the beginning which is the fact that an empire need not worry about controlling both copper & tin mines in order to have access At least that is my 2 cents anyway
Comment from : JC Owens

Tyr, Sky-Father of the gods
Actually, the evidence for human sacrifice is scant More recent evidence suggests Lindo Man died by a blow to the head, which broke his neck The supposed garotte is actually now believed to be a necklace that dug into his skin The Romans often disparaged tribal religions as undertaking human sacrifice as an instrument of propaganda, especially when - like the Druids - the prevailing local religious leaders opposed them See Ronald Hutton's lectures about this
Comment from : Tyr, Sky-Father of the gods

Hugh Featherstone
that the parisii 'chariot burial' sites in britain feature the chariots deconstructed rather than whole only tells us that 1) iron age brits, much like their modern descendants, typically owned vehicles that were only occasionally roadworthy and 2) that french chariots suffer even more than local ones from the effects of our weather
Comment from : Hugh Featherstone
