I sent many thousands of dollars, mostly to a mangrove-purok community in Calbayog, but also to Mindanao and Manila It was sent as required after typhoon-damage, fires, rotting of ageing homes, earthquake-damage etc 52 timber houses in all got built so far with my money I also sent money for setting up businesses - trikes for taxiing, bales of clothes for ukay ukay businesses, two 'guesthouses', boats and equipment for fishing I've paid hospital and operation bills, doctor and dentist visits, many cellphones, school fees, uniforms, college fees, birthday gifts and village parties, flights to visit aging relatives, bus and boat journeys, small land purchases, household repairs, furnishings, schoolkids trips and outings, a wheelchair, false legs for an amputee, weekly groceries for 54 souls (eight families) during lockdown, special diet food for a weak child, motor cycles, laptops, wifi, rent-help, clothes (for events or interviews), property to open a store, initial stock for same, legal help, engineering help, holidays, etc etc etcbrbrIt's a deep instinct to provide when need arises, to problem-solve, to give a little dignity I've got very little back in the way of appreciation, or feedback, but I can live with that I may draw a line soon, as I feel I've done my bit by now But I'll keep an open mind until I visit the main recipients later this summer, on my first visit there, and see things for myself Comment from : Michael Arnold
