Do some research on your own Look at what the vendors say is wrong Get an independent source of information and check their story out How serious is it really, and how long can the repairs wait? What's the worst case scenario if you wait six months to make the repairs?
Comment from : Robin Lillian

Namari12
'Only in an emergency,' Dave said so what do you do in that case (a legitimate emergency) if you don't have enough in savings? Take out debt? Refinance your mortgage? What if neglecting repairs now means you'll have to pay a lot more down the road as your house deteriorates? I agree that this guy's stuff doesn't really rise to that level, but I'm wondering what you do in more urgent cases

15 years is not that old for an HVAC system I think he is being a little dramatic about his home repairs
Comment from : Mike T

Leathelandlady
Why'd you refinance? And how'd you "come into some money" from a refinance? I think you just got another loan!
Comment from : Leathelandlady

Spencer Harper
I love the whole crew but a Dave and Anthony or Chris hogan is straight 🔥🔥

The house is 15 years old! That’s crazy that he thinks the house is falling apart Wow 😳 I live in a solid house built in 1965

Tuyet Nguyen
He makes over 100 grand a year and can’t afford these things? He’s full of excuses
Comment from : Tuyet Nguyen

Carol Bennett
We saved up for and replaced our HVAC system this past Dec When we started saving up for it, told our HVAC guys we wanted a discount for paying in cash Which they did We put almost half of my paycheck for 5 months towards the AC Got it replaced in Dec No debt but our mortgage but we make around $46k and the caller makes $110k

For a short time a long time ago I used to sell Gutter Guard It’s an example of a company where I could not work there because I did not want to sell my soul The brand-name GutterGuard is what I’m referring to Truth is, you don’t really need gutter guard, there are other options, and other much less expensive options, and they are hustlers when it comes to sales There are some people out there that have a very difficult time saying no, and they trained me on that technique and I couldn’t believe how you could flip a no around to yes for someone who is basically telling you they couldn’t afford it… Not sure if that’s what’s happening here, but good chance the guy is feeling guilty if he said no…
Comment from : John H

Mostly humble 1
A few gallons of Flex-all rubber sealer, paint the inside of the gutter It'll hold til next year or more Get the HVAC tuned by another company that wants your business LONG TERM

He sounds like the people who want a new car for the "safety technology" Dude, my HVAC unit is 16 years old and running just fine down here in the south I've replaced a capacitor ($140) and sealed a freon leak/added freak once And have not had any respiratory issues 🤣 As far as the gutters: Search for lawn care guys on Craigslist or Facebook marketplace They usually do some gutter work for cheap for extra income Or they may have a buddy who does gutter work
Comment from : Stephen Santiago

Anna Takken
You don’t do home repairs until you’re out of debt Simple as
Comment from : Anna Takken

Hon Kwok
get the second guy active, to see really have to replace
Comment from : Hon Kwok

NeoAndersonReloaded
Ask them whats wrong and learn to fix it for now Buy a ladder and some tools Most of this stuff is online and simple My frig stop making ice I was told i needed a new door for $1000 I looked at the bottom and saw to wires cut I spliced them together and it works fine
Comment from : NeoAndersonReloaded

Robert Smithers
HVAC is not essential, turn it off until you've payed off your debt and saved enough to repair it If your family is cold buy them all a jumper at the dollar store and some thick socks A bit of discomfort will make sure you don't do this again
Comment from : Robert Smithers

Robert Smithers
They don't fit in baby step 2, that's why you should never buy a home in baby step 2
Comment from : Robert Smithers

Ian Robinson
An HVAC system is not an emergency, you can use electric heaters in the meantime Yeah, they're more expensive but it's a temporary fix until the cash is raised for it
Comment from : Ian Robinson

Elena
I just had an AC issue where it wasn’t blowing cool Tech came out It was a $99 fix But he gave me a nice scary speech about my old as dirt AC He thought it was original to the house built in 1972 No honey it’s from 1997 He looked scared for me and my 22 year old AC unitbrbrI just smiled I ain’t skeered cause I got a sinking fund for that :) I am prepared for the inevitable
Comment from : Elena

Travis B
These calls always bug me as a HVAC tech Just because the HVAC guy is telling you you need a new system does not mean he is trying to scam you If you're dealing with a reputable company, you need a new system Yes you may be able to patch it but when the system needs replacing in a year or two you've literally just throwing your money away and are throwing away a relatively new part Also, a lot of the time if your system is extremely old the efficiency of the new system will offset a good bit of the cost due to you having lower energy bills
Comment from : Travis B

Colleen Jones
Is there any doubt that debt is bad? Stay out of debt people
Comment from : Colleen Jones

Poor Redneck World
Well im confused So Idk what gutters coat My house that i rent HAS NO GUTTERS AT ALL the water jyst runs off the roof and runs away Now I know an HVAC system If you buy it new on line and you install will be abt FIFTEEN HUNDRED Mom's landlord fit it Idk what install would cost
Comment from : Poor Redneck World

SilenceSlayer224
I've been in the hvac field for quite a while and never heard of something getting into the system and never charged $1,000 for any service work They need a new hvac guy that doesn't lie to them My field is along the likes of car salesmen and auto repairmen It's so easy to rip people off Shame on him for taking advantage of his customers
Comment from : SilenceSlayer224

KT Speedruns
They shouldn’t have bought the house without already having the money to repair it Especially since they were in BS 2 Do these people even listen or just think “if I get out of debt, I’ll be rich like Ramsay”?
Comment from : KT Speedruns

Brent Smelser
Just pay for them if you can’t handle it yourself Get back on paying debts after You’re a few months longer in the worst case scenario
Comment from : Brent Smelser

Tobin K

Gutters are gutters just nail the things back up and redirect the water
Comment from : Johnathan Gomez

KT Sterlin
He’s okay with waiting, has a reasonable income for the amount of debt that can be paid off in 6 months, and I don’t see the issue He probably just wanted the confirmation and may be getting pressured to do something sooner but he’ll be fine

Sandy Seibel Hager
Don't do anything to the HVAC until it needs done I was told four years ago that I needed $1,000 worth of work done and that I should replace the system I am saving the funds for replacement but am NOT going to replace the system until it is needed My HVAC system is 17 years old It could die tomorrow or years from now

Beast from the East
I would run the hvac until it dies Just get some coil cleaner and clean the coils in the air handler and the coils on the outside unit so that it doesn’t work as hard Keep the filter changed As for the gutters, just go to Home Depot and do a band aid fix to so that the water runs off properly until you get the funds to replace the whole thing

If you don't fix the house until you pay off debt that's going to be a long time Fix things within reason Our furnace is nearly 30 years old and still going strong, 15 isn't that old

Purchase a home warranty plan from a reputable company, they work I have used mine for many years currently just the other day got a brand new water heater installed they paid $850 no questions asked, if it was a repair it would have been a hundred percent covered, also had to replace shut-off valves which added big money to the job, but also have the interior plumbing coverage as well as every other coverage I can have called them after the work was completed and they paid the contractor in full for that workbrbrIt's about $8 a month for the water heater coverage, and $10 for the interior plumbing With all other coverages which covers absolutely everything 100 repairs no deductible or a amount basically half in case of a replacement is about $87 a monthbrbrI purchased the house in 2013 cash with the market down now worth four times as much, I am not a handy man type of fella LOL so when something goes south I like to have it taken care of with one call with as little or no money as possible (at least, upfront taking into consideration the $87 a month for the plans)brbrWorth it to me
