I am a self taught guitar player and have been playing for about 15 years I do well with myself or with my family, just not with others Even practicing with a metronome I find my self slowly speeding up and not staying consistent It is very frustrating from somebody who has played as long as I have Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated Comment from : Will Brown |
|
The guitar masters I've studied don't strum from the elbow with straight up/down arm movements - they strum predominantly from the wrist and maintain much closer control of their fingers over the strings Progressing from strumming to finger style, and combining the two, is achieved by keeping a reference point for your hand in relation to the individual strings, and this is very difficult if you have a "free-floating" arm waving up and down! Comment from : Lowdenjim |

Great pointers I really like you start from a beginner point of view It gets nauseating when I see advanced guitarists only interested in showing their own skills Comment from : saraton |

I am glad he addressed pick vs no pick, ideal pick thickness for a beginner, and using a light touch I also learned from the wrong strumming examples Seems the best route to go is practice the most common strumming pattern D, DU, &U, D until it becomes natural Maybe using a phone metronome app is a good idea too He says we are inborn with rhythm, but I think some of us have to work on it a bit, or a lot 😁 Comment from : Michele Moneywell |

Turning wrist or up/down arm? Which one is more effective? I played guitar when I was student and play until now with turning wrist when playing such rhythmic pattern (I played later piano and synthe so not very good at guitar) But for strong movement strong sound, I still move up and down the arm I saw some videos recommending to rotate the wrist instead of moving with the arm up and down (like here in this video) What about your opinion you as experimented guitar players? Dear Justin, two things I have noticed that you are using “a lot of arm” while strumming, I was always teached to rotate the wrist instead and use as less arm as possible … Know i am confused what’s rightbrbrThe second thing is that u are changing the angle of the plec while strumming is that on purpose? One thing that improved my playing almost instantly was using low tension strings I get Newtone ones They remove the element of having to press down so hard And sound brilliant They take away one element and that frees you up to do other things like singing I'm not selling them, but anyone l have asked to get them were amazed how easy playing became What ever helps in my opinion Your fingers will thank you Just have to practice the same They go out of tune alot till they bed in Comment from : jimmy2minutes |

I think every guitar player needs to learn how to strum strum mean is important, but I prefer the finger style guitar method of straw mean it has bass lines in it it’s not as boring I guess that’s finger pickers or a totally different breed of guitar players I don’t sing, but I sure love making melody and harmony, one of the most Beautifullest finger style guitar songs I ever learned was hotel California by the eagles, this song is beautiful I love playing guitar if I had to strum all the time, I would be bored to death but you’re right it’s in a sensual to know how to stream Thanks for the video Have a great day😁👍🏼🎸🎼🎶🎵😀 Comment from : Mark Brown |
