I have 3/4 of an acre, and it is mostly flat, do I need the 300 series or more of the 100/200 series? I don't want to waste money when I don't need too and don't like overkill Comment from : Erich Von Molder |
|
What is you take on the single cylinder S100 vs the twin cylinder S120?? My four year young CubCadet LT42 XT1 engine, (Kohler 18HP single), blew at only 1096 hours and this was with impeccable maintenance Three oil changes during the first 2 hours to make sure all the manufacturing "bits" were flushed, running Valvoline FULL synthetic 10W-30 after 12 hours break-in, and the SOB dies Considering a "hopeful" long term life, will the twin's inherently smoother running - BUT more complex engine components, be offset with a longer life? Simple is sometimes better, but, your OPINION on the long term durability "factor" of a single vs twin cylinder lawn tractor engine Thank you for your help Comment from : Hank White |

I’ve had a LA125 since 2008 (1975 Allis Chalmers was my original) and it’s a great machine if you do the regular maintenance, I find it’s a little underpowered for bagging so you have to keep the transmission belt in good shape for best performancebrIt wasn’t bagging well this summer so I just changed the belts and changed the oil, plug and filters, gave it some grease and it’s bagging grass without clogging again brI will be upgrading to the 240 soon, if you can’t afford the nicer machine, a lower end model will get you through an acre without too many issues until you can get something that can cut fast and throw hardbrI’m really happy with the LA125, it’s been a reliable and easily serviceable machine that I could afford I hope the 240 is a noticeable upgrade with more power for the bagger Comment from : Jason Squires |
|
That is why we went with the X330 Plus warranty is also an upgrade in X Series Comment from : Kim Ochsenbein |
|
Great review I would have liked to hear more about how one has a better cut than the other Or a better deck system Too much about creature comforts and not enough about mow quality and durability Comment from : Randy |
|
Cut height control located on the floor between the legs on the X series? What a goofy design Dissapointed and major turn off Great video btw Comment from : Toaster Overdrive |

Very good presentation Thanks I have an older style 2004 Toro wheelhorse with the 17 hp Kawasaki The engine has about 580 hours and so far has been reliable I had to replace one coil, along with routing oil and filter changes plus batteries about every 3 years The engine starts and runs perfectly every time and shows no sign of any oil consumption between changes I would definitely recommend going to the Kawasaki over a Briggs or Kohler Comment from : Joseph Rouleau |
|
Local listing for an X479 for only $800!! Doesn’t seem right He says it runs fine No problems brI haven’t gone to look at it It’s an hour away and I’m in bed with Covid brI’d jump all over that if it’s running Flip it for a nice profit Buy a good X series Comment from : Ken Thompson |
|
You should buy a Kubota Comment from : erik morse |

Hi Brent I know this is way off topic but don’t know how to communicate with you I have a 2021 JD S100 Do you know of a YouTube video or perhaps you have made one that instructs on how to adjust the belt tension on this modelbr There are several videos showing this adjustment but show an earlier model with an brL bracket that has two bolts holding it to the deck that can be loosened and the engagement cable moved My tractor has an L bracket that is welded to the deck How does one adjust the tension? I live on a half acre with lots of trees and azaleas, so I need maneuverability My Deere Z345R is a great choice for cutting in confined spaces and getting out safely However, if I had a wide open lawn that needed to look like a golf fairway (ie perfect), either of these lawn tractors would work well for me We Ztrak guys may not want to admit it, but a mini tractor will usually deliver a higher degree of perfection than a Z Thanks for sharing! Comment from : Mike Black |

all the x380s where im at are briggs and stratton motors, are the kawasakis preferable? Comment from : Ed B |

Hi, I just bought a S120, how will it handle a snowblower vs the 200 or x300 series? Is it worth buying JD blower or buy a standalone snowblower for a lot less money Also, is it worth while to upgrade into the S170 range with the upgraded transaxle for towing usage? I have about 1 acre of undulating ground but have 5 acres of woods to haul a trailer to get wood and such Thank for any feedback Comment from : KG Productions |
|
I bought an X390 Love it! Comment from : Michael Bandeko |

I mow three acres I have a LA 175 and it has a 26 hp briggs and stratton Had to replace the oil pan gasket but other than that it's been great for a 54 "yard lawn tractor i much prefer my 54" husqvarna 24 hp zero turn Pulls the lawn sweeper much better too Comment from : Jack Empson |

Your comment at 4:11 about the seats I defy John Deere to make a seat that doesn't split and fall apart while only 5 years old, always used in nice weather, and never abused 😠!!! Comment from : Acre Guy |

Compression release cam failures on Briggs are very common High, high, high maintenance…fiddling with valves clearances yearly The repair cost is over $1300 to replace the cam and the new cam isn’t any better than the original Comment from : Naps |

Interesting review Well done and very clear Many thanksbrbrI came to YT looking for tips on my old Johnnies and found this by accident brThese mowers look like they are smooth and easy to usebrbrI'm not certain of the year of the change, I was looking at used Johnnies and noticed some of the B&S engines were made in ChinabrI have had numerous people tell me the quality of car parts from China is sub standard Brake rotors warp at 2000 miles, tools made in china bend, the sockets crack, the rachets won't rachet so if the mower you are looking at has a B&S engine made in China I suggest you spend a bit more money and get the Kawasaki enginebrbrGasoline: When possible get the alcohol free gas Especially for winter storage Or for any tool that does not get a lot of use The ethanol will make a nasty gummy mess in the carburetor Chain saws can be damaged since we tend to use them only once or twice a yearbrbrMy Johnnie was new in 1979, built only 130 miles from my house It is a 212 model, frame like a Mack truck, it is rated to pull a one bottom plow, push a snow plow or blower on the front or a rototiller on the back I have no idea how many hours, the meter is kaputz It has Armstrong steering You either have strong arms to steer it or they will get strong from steering it The 12 HP engine is a single cylinder Kohler and it can run the 46 inch mower deck through 8 inch tall grass with the mower set to leave the grass three inches high in third gear without bogging down The old guy at the JD shop told me it has more usable power than a newer 22 HP Briggs because it has a lot of torque It holds 35 gallons of gas It weighs 690 pounds, it has 23 inch tires on the rear Supposedly it only goes 7 mph but with the variable speed at max and trans in 4th I get a nice breeze when I zip down the drivewaybrbrI had to completely rebuild the mower deck with all new bearings I sanded it and repainted it while it was torn downbrI replaced the carburetor, after all the years of use the hole the shaft goes through got egg shaped and was allowing too much air to leak in The coil gave up the ghost It was only 44 years old, can't believe it already diedbrbrI confess it's an armful, manual transmission, have to reach down any time I have back up so I don't do it very often I used all synthetic oil in my old Johnnie and it has obviously paid off he's still running I certainly hope these gorgeous new ones last as long as mine hasbrbrNothing runs like a Deere Comment from : Mike Bender |
|
So why didn't you include prices? Comment from : john C |

What is the exact part number for the seat on the X300 series lawn tractor that Brent showed in his comparison of the S & brX series mowers? Comment from : Charles Miller |
|
how much of a kickback do you get from John Deere what about the farmers because of the proprietary computer systems cannot repair their own vehicles what about the plastic transmissions and the horrible drive systems a little spring breaks and it's going to cost you five and six hundred dollars to replace it a $2 spring cost $15 $16 people who buy John Deere need to get an unlimited warranty forever but that would cost too much Comment from : uawsux |
|
I'm a 56 yr old chick that does 9999 of her 4 acre yard work The chickens do the other point 01 😂 brAnyway, I bought my JD 350 on y'all's recommendations in 2020 Yes they actually built mine during the COVID I absolutely love my lawn mower and have just a little over a hundred hours on it Thought I'd come back and check because I remembered where you gave a discount on the home maintenance kits Thanks for the recommendation Comment from : WeBugn2 |

The quick change oil system is garbage You never get to remove all the old oil, whenever you do a change, its a 50/50 mix of old and new oil You can buy an adaptor kit to change it back to a conventional oil filter system Comment from : VK4VO Shauns Stuff |

Brent I'd been wanting a z300 series for some time, but I'm picking up customers with hilly lawns that's probably best suited to lawn tractors I've got one now and another that's wanting services starting next spring I'm not doing commercial mowing as I only mow 9 or 10 properties a week, each less than 1/3 an acre I've been using a 2013 cub cadet, but its cut quality is mediocre and my new customers are wanting their lawns mulched My cub struggles in wet grass with side discharge so I'm skeptical about it mulching a biweekly lawn My budget is just over $3k so I'm looking at either the s170 or the s220 I like that the s170 offers a 4i" cut,k46 tranny, and electric pto, but I have no experience with their cut quality, especially mulching I know the s220 has the accel deep deck and would probably have great cut quality Do you think I'd be ok with the s170 and a mulching kit or should I sacrifice the amenities the s170 offers for the accel deep deck I dont mow in the rain or anything, but sometimes the grass is still damp when I have to mow Most of my customers are biweekly and where I live we only mow from april through October Appreciate any thoughts you have Comment from : Cipher Code |

I've owned an X354 since the start of winter 2019, running both a Snowblower and 54" mower deck on a 7-acre property with 3_acres of mixed natural grasses and have just passed 100 hours, so far it has been a great tractor but there have been some issues I've noticed The first problem I had was the outlet of the tank-mounted fuel pump snapped off because it came into contact with the main platform, this was during snow operations and I suspect some ice had built up and was caught by the wheel chains and pushed the tank into the platform I did the repair myself with free parts supplied by the dealer since there was at least a 5-week wait for the dealer to make the repair Another issue is the engine cooling exits out the front of the tractor and turns the snow into slush that piles up over the drive belt and causes it to slip, I've made a shield to deflect the hot air to the side and that helpsbr The mower works great, I've just finished lawnmower seeding 2 acres that had grown to about 3 feet tall before going to seed, whatever belt issues I've heard about the belts are fine and the mower will actually kill the engine if it becomes plugged or I push it too hard Comment from : Doug Petersen |
