But what about when its cloudy, you dont get much of the sunlight and the street is snowy? I tried to relly on my phone lightmeter app since I was shooting a vintage rangefinder but ended up underexposed all the time
Comment from : dzava

Narsuitus
The f/16 on a sunny day worked for me when I lived near the equatorbrHowever, when I lived farther north of the equator, I had to use f/11 on a sunny day
Comment from : Narsuitus

Alvin Morris
Call me ignorant if you want but up till I watched this video I had never heard of the sunny 16 rule but I'm glad I found this video and the subject matter is perfect for demonstrating it thank you so much for the tip!

And the manufacturers tell us their color matrix meter can tell what's light and dark always giving correct exposurehogwash Modern camera's meters still get fooled

Arctic Warrior Editor
If this is the same Bryan Peterson who wrote "Understanding Digital Photography" and "Understanding Exposure," he taught me another neat trick if you want to shoot another aperture besides f16 Set your working aperture and meter using the open sky opposite the sun and recompose Makes a perfect exposure every time provided it is a bright sunny day and your subject is in the open
Comment from : Arctic Warrior Editor

Skyfox
I'm going to have to try this  Every time I shoot snow scenes I have to boost the whites in post
