Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Maniac Mansion, the Secret of Monkey Island, the King's Quest games, The Legend of Kyrandia that time was the golden age of Adventure games They were popular, and they were right up my alley, and as a Star Trek fan this game was a no brainer to add to my collection I didn't have a CD ROM drive, so I had to buy the floppy disk version But the game was fun even like that Every level felt like playing an actual episode of the show

The NIMH/Contra idea is my main complaint with so many 8/16 bit games: so many great licenses burned on "run to the right and jump on/shoot everything!" games Some of them were actually fun, but very few captured the flavor of the original work These Star Trek games did it right

As good as this game is (and Judgement Rites), is has the slight downside that is was designed to be played like you were actually in Starfleet What this means is instead of:brGo to location A - Pick up Item B - Got to location C - Use item B on item D - Talk to person E - repeat - Level completebrits now:brTalk to Spock - Ask computer about location A - Ask computer about whatever location A refers to - Go to location A - talk to everybody - tricorder everything and everyone - talk to everybody again - Pickup item B - go to location C - talk-tricorder-talk everything again - keep doing this hoping that you get that 100 score at the end of the episodebrThe game rates you on how 'Starfleety' you are each mission and some missions it is doubly mandatory to do computer research before beaming down or you wont even pass the first screenbrFor better or worse, ST:25thA and ST:JR are NOT point and click adventures IMO they are Starfleet officer simulators driven through a VGA screen and a mouse
