I’m not going to be rude…Ken is entitled to his OPINION…which he needs to get a dictionary and look up TRUTH and OPINION He lives in a fantasyland where work comes with no stress or hardships, that is fine when younger but when older that leads to heart attacks in men and completely disregards mental health Lastly this last thought may offend people but your contribution you think you are giving may kind of be useless, you are not needed Everyone is replaceable never forget that If I ever get to retire, I want to explore nature, read, spend time with a dog So much to do…such little time

I feel like having the option to opt out is what’s important in retirement I work a hard job and i enjoy it most days but my best days are when I do optional overtime and I don’t have management over my head I hate feeling like I need to do xyz or I’ll be homeless or not afford to raise kids one day When I’m old I just want to do work I enjoy and have the liberty of leaving a bad well paying job just cause I can afford to I just want to afford to not kiss a** 😩
Comment from : Prismdrop

shaochia vang
Uh I'll rather travel and sit at the house than not go to work when I'm 60 years old I mean life expectancy is like 78 years old and declining ?
Comment from : shaochia vang

shaochia vang
$125M will be worth about the same as $500k in 30 years, assuming 3 inflation

Anthony Dooley
The industry standard advice from financial advisors assumes the withdrawal rate from your retirement nest egg is 4 per year This makes the required nest egg balance a lot higher than what Dave teaches Dave would say that if your mutual fund makes 12 on average and inflation is 4 on average, that leaves 8 to use each year without touching the principal balance So you would need twice the nest egg to get the same amount of withdrawal using the 4 rule as the 8 rule Dave teaches I agree with Dave, but the withdrawal each year should be based on the previous year's rate of return

Cheese Meister
I feel like this de-ranged from the original question, and into personal opinion

Maybe get a part time job do what you want and downsize ,rent the cottage instead off buying or condo overseas it’s a lot cheaper !remember you only have so much time Steve Jobs and so many otherdidn’t get to stick around! Zephyn13
Researching FIRE led me to Ramsey Cutting my expenses to almost nothing and following the baby steps with a much larger percentage invested, I'm now semi-retired in my thirties I fill in for a local security company and use my extra free time to focus on improving my health and delving deeper into my hobbies Most of my income goes to stacking my investments to improve my quality of life over time I no longer have to work just to survive and I've never been happier

I want to spend most of my time outdoors Cooped up in a room with no windows for 30 years may have created some monetary wealth but I have no intention of being inside anywhere to work again!!!brThe things I require don’t cost a lot of money My focus is trying to hang on to good health and have some adventures
Comment from : kim davis

Michael ORiada
I retired a year ago at 54 from a wonderful creative career I’m very happy now a year later and engaged in other activities My only regret is I should brhave done it sooner brDon’t be a sheep and follow the flock 1 life 1 shot!
Comment from : Michael ORiada

Duncan Dixon
When I retire, I'm doing pottery I'm not going to take any classes at all I'm going to buy all the crap and just figure it out I may have to look up on how to throw and the theory of gazing, but it will be all trial and error by myself Reason for that is that I will have a lot of time on my hands, so might as well use it and let a natural creative flow come about rather than have it tainted by someone saying "you'll find this way easier"brbrThe free time you have to work things out yourself will give you purpose each day
Comment from : Duncan Dixon

djee02
You know what is also not a recipe for happiness? Stress, deadlines, office politics, toxic coworkers, bad management, traffic, burnout, ageism, etc
Comment from : djee02

Jarrett Nash
All of the best days of my life have been engaging in a hobby and normally alone It is the only time you can do exactly what you want, without consideration or compromise; and it is wonderful

Last time I did go to Dollar General, there was an old lady She was happy to work as a cashier Dawn you are happy to work? You should be at home and do what you want, when you want and how you want Did you fall on the head? It's probably going to be the new normal soon for a lot of people That's sad
Comment from : Simon

Simon
Well actually it's not the right question It's really a million dollars question It should be rephrase to How much do you spend? So I will calculate how much you need for retirement Something like this LOL People and all their crap! What are you going to do today? Go buy more crap Built it and I will fill it up with crap LOL
Comment from : Simon

Great topic Sounds like a good number showing the "wisdom of crowds" theory in actionbrNo doubt a good retirement is a busy productive one with lots of quality time with your spouse etc Duhhh I am facing this question now I can easily retire, but enjoy my job maybe too much What I dont want is to regret NOT retiring
Comment from : Peter Cyr

Retirement isn't a lump sum I picked up an abandoned property in GA for 14K and removed the "house" for 65K I bought the property because it has electricity, sewer, and water and high speed internet is available With Boxabl, it very possible to get an apartment house put on the property for under 100KbrbrWith my condo and house, by the time I'm ready to be done, I'll have enough rental income to pay my bills no problem once I don't have mortgages My original plan was to be debt free including the house by 45 But now I can "retire" at 45 so I can focus on doing things I actually care about and not have to worry about making so much money to pay all the billsbrbrYou also need work life balance on the way to retirement I went work from home in 2009 and because of that I was able to always be there for the kiddo and never missed anything Don't kill yourself for money on the way to retirement and don't think retirement means doing nothing It just means doing what you want to without having financial stressbrbrAnd contrary to Dave Ramsey who thinks you should pay people "what they need" (because Dave Ramsey needs the money more, he's only worth 700 million, poor guy), not needing the money doesn't mean you undercut workers by agreeing to work for slave wages Every hour you work is worth your full professional value whether you work 1 hour a week or 40
Comment from : Ben Kucenski

Karen Jensen
That’s you! Not everyone loves working Some of us have worked since we were 24 and want to not have to anymore Maybe the day will come and I will want to volunteer but I sure don’t want my job owning all my time anymore
Comment from : Karen Jensen

Paul Stodolny
I cannot give enough “LIKES” to this video I 100 agree with this Yes, I will aim for financial freedom But stopping contributing to society and perpetuating relationships with new people is the fastest way to mentally and physically decline Great video

He's right I work for myself and sometimes I say I'm gonna take a day off Usually that just means doing whatever I want in the morning but by noon or 1 I am wanting to create something It's nice to not HAVE to work, but usually you will want to work on something So retirement in the sense of having freedom to work on whatever you want to, yesplan and save for that

Retirement (no contribution to the world) is death for most people The fantasy of never working is sad Money won’t fill the gap Get money, save it, but don’t quit working
Comment from : Noah Najor

Jim Smith
Read Atlas Shrugged I can’t go a single day without hearing how society hates white males This society is rotten and corrupt to the core and I choose not to contribute to it I work just enough to get by and spend the rest of my time focused on my family, my health and my happiness I contribute to society how I want but I refuse to let the government tell me how I’m going to do it
