I’d be retiring or working less in 5 years, and considering this financial recession, I’m curious to know best how people split their pay, how much of it goes into savings, spendings or investments, I earn around $250K per year but nothing to show for it yet

I'm wondering if those who experienced the 2008 financial crisis had a smoother time compared to me at the moment The stock market is causing me significant concern as my income isn't as high as it used to be This worry stems from the fear that I might not have enough savings for my retirement since I'm unable to contribute more to my savings
Comment from : Tom Nolan

I think a very quick route for most people to retire is by investing in the stock market It's risky, though, particularly at an uncertain time such as this I have lost more than $140k, but my portfolio is still significant, about $320k, but I'm not confident about picking stocks anymore Are there really no other options for me to gain from the stock market?

The reason people are afraid isn’t because they don’t understand the math it’s because they do understand the math and they don’t feel that on their income, they can afford to save enough

harmonicaveronica
The prospect of having to financially provide for you while your kids are at the age of providing for their own kids? That's a lot to put on someone At least with education loans there are programs to lower payments and even apply for forgiveness And like, if you have the money, totally do save for your kid's school! But put money away for retirement first
Comment from : harmonicaveronica

Joss

I can't believe how much our lives have changed since meeting Rodger Michael Karl He's helped us become debt-free and save for retirement" I made over 220K during this dip, which made it clear there's more to the market than we average joes know Having an investment adviser is currently the best course of action, especially for those who are close to retirement

Tax differed retirement plans worked in the 70s through the 90s Now that the Biden administration is raising taxes so high the benefits are no longer there and you will pay far more tax now than in years past Move to a state that has no income tax and one that doesn't tax social security Inflation in the last two years has consumed most people's disposable income Plan on working longer to supplement the added cost to retirement

I’m in my late 20s, with an Ivy undergrad & now at the same Ivy for grad school, applying the PhD this fall (my realm of study is Anthropology, & I plan to be a professor & publish, not only academic works hopefully & maybe dip into Art Theory & keep doing my own art if I can) I feel awful as I spent half of my 20s in a serious heroin addiction & so I have NO raised money & my father refuses to let me take out loans for school He was a well-known lawyer when I was young & at 73, he still does some law work from home, so no not fully retired I feel awful about it but I’ve only been clean two years, I just got back into school (like I said for what technically is my second MA degree but I don’t count the first) & I don’t know how to help I get overwhelmed too easily so working & being in an intense Ivy grad is too much at once I don’t want to end up back on drugs I know that’s a choice technically, but sometimes I have trouble controlling myself when I see my options as either that or suicide How can I help him? I feel like I am running out of time & I want him to retire… he deserves it

In my very early 30s and currently have enjoyed three years debt free It REALLY shocked me how quickly I could build up my savings I am about to take on a mortgage however it's the only debt I will take out again (plus my payments are actually cheaper than local rent) I have seen my in-laws and how well they are doing by just owning their home and having no debt Those are my first retirement goals 💯

I maxed out my contributions to my 401K and my HSA during the last 10 years of work (I retired at 60) I also was able to move 2/3's of my HSA money into an ETF so it would grow And it did grow and that has been very beneficial
