This is great advice I interviewed for a position that was still contingent on government award and was pressed for a dollar amount At that time I had been out of work for a couple of months and did not want to self eliminate, so I said I would need a base of 80k The hiring manager took my number and said they were waiting on the contract approval, but wanted me as their candidate This same job was actually won by a different company and I also interviewed for that position In that interview I asked for the salary range and was told it would be 105k to 120k depending on qualifications Nice difference You can probably guess which one I ended up choosing

It happen to me once, the interviewer asked me about my salary requirement, and did not give a number, at the end of the interview the interviewer asked me again because the hiring manager will ask for an amount Next time I will know how to answer, thank you the advice

Adrianjayeonline
ps I liked and subbed, good clear delivery only a 5 minute video, some video stretch's out to 20-30 minutes, one youtuber who I wont name, does 1 hour long videos, waffles on the subject leaves you hanging on and gives you total BS, says stuff like "Oh I'm a recruiter with 50 years expereince" Ive been in the industry etc etc nothing like that from your channel, just straight into it thanks
Comment from : Adrianjayeonline

Adrianjayeonline
nice, one of the best questions and a good explanation, I got ghosted by a recruiter for answering this question, but funnily enough, the job I'm at now, I discussed with the recruiter my, existing range, going to a new company as a inc I got pretty much what was offered which was nice but this is the exception not the rule
Comment from : Adrianjayeonline

Barbara B
So if one is approached by a company to join them (vs you applying) for a senior role, how does this answer change? In a case like that, would they be expecting to be paying on the higher end?
Comment from : Barbara B

Jeremy Harvey
How should you respond if they have already provide a salary range on the job listing description? Also, What if you’re asked to type in a number on the job application when you’re asked this question?

Jorge Rodriguez
Really nice video I use to answer asking for a salary range for the position brThey used to give a middle point of their salary range, however I tried to negotiate to reach the top of their salary range and they said that it was not possible so I discarded them because I had another offerbrbrAll in all, this tricky question can produce a counter effect for the company itself brNevertheless, in general it's a good question for everyone because on the other hand when a company doesn't ask for the salary expectations and they only offer a specific figure could be a waste of time for companies and candidates
Comment from : Jorge Rodriguez

Nasser Al-Ostath
You are brilliant sir

Comment from : Alex Fancy

HartleySan
"I'm thinking of a number Try and guess what it is, and if you get it wrong, you don't get the job" Hehe! I laughed pretty hard at that It makes you realize what a silly game this all is most of the time It's almost like that's most companies' go-to question early in the process when they want to force someone out of the running without explicitly saying that
Comment from : HartleySan

Luca Smerieri
what if they give you a fixed number and you have seen a better offer in a different place for the same position, but you'd like to get the first job?

Kenneth Faron
I always felt that when they ask the salary question upfront, it is because they have a budget and they are looking for a cheap warm body to shoe horn into a role If the salary question comes too soon in the interview process, that is a serious red flag for me

This video was super helpful Thank you for posting Do you have any advice for an online application where they require a single salary number in order to upload your resume and apply for that postiion?
Comment from : Steven Caldwell

Matt M
Having been on both sides of the interview process(tho never discussing salary) this is GOLD!!!!! Job interviews are like a secret language that everyone excepts is the game you play Do NOT treat it like a normal conversation You are not friends You are trying to get the job at the highest rate possible, they are trying to hire someone who will fill the job needs at the lowest rate possiblethese are conflicting goals :)
Comment from : Matt M

Jordan T Hurt
Just used your advice from this video for my new job I expected to get low-balled but after doing this for the first time, they met me right in the middle of the $20k range I gave them, which is a much higher salary than I’ve ever made for this position I’ve had my entire life They didn’t give me any information on salary until AFTER I gave them my range, and I ended up making more than the company’s cap for my position because of it Profound advice, sir
Comment from : Jordan T Hurt

lk7496

What if an employer reached out to me? I'm not currently looking for a job, but I updated my resume to add my most recent job to it and now I have an interview next week I am curious about what the company has to offer beyond just compensation I saw the range of what they will pay on the job listing If I'm going to go through the hassle of switching jobs, learning new systems and having a longer commute, I want to be properly compensated for it I want the upper range of what they are offering but also do not want to go through a lot of interviews to be told they will offer me the same amount as I'm making now

Comment from : J

Jonathan
My question is if its so important to them that you accept a salary within a specific range, why don`t they disclose it?brIts like they think because you already went through the trouble of going to the interview you will be more flexible to accept a lower salary
