Ok Understand what you’re saying How about a drill or two to train this into your swing? Comment from : Digital Hocus Pocus |
Fred’s on his left toe and the other golfer is on his left heel Golf is so wired Comment from : Radman |
Flip is a bad word in golf You should flip—just later in the swing than a lot of amateurs do Comment from : Paul Morgan |
Read something awhile back with Bobby Jones describing his "swing thoughts" if any He said in the downswing he just thinks of hitting the ball with the inside of his right wrist Seems to work (for me) Comment from : Hacker 100 |
It’s only a flip if your body stops turning Love this and you’re totally right Comment from : Aleksi Lepisto |
Strongish right hand helpsbrHad this feel and great ball striking when I had a weak left and strong right set very high at address a la Moe Norman (on jumbo grips thick at bottom also) Moe had this release and the weak strong combo Moe said he was "shaking hands with the flagstick" Comment from : AP |
I video my swing all the time I have done so for years to try and get rid of the flip At slow speeds I can achieve shaft lean at impact However, when I speed it up it seems like centrifugal force takes over and throws the clubhead early creating a flip No matter how hard I try, with all my strength to keep my wrists from flipping I can't stop it What do you think about the forces that are created that are taking over? Comment from : rbauer1632 |

Great video Craig esp the evidence you show Can it really be this easy!? In all the hundreds of lessons I’ve had no one has ever explained the complete swing and release this way Cheers Richard Down RCGC Comment from : richard down |
You never disappointyour videos are first class in every way Thankyou Comment from : Bobby Goodman |
Mickelson and Couples both flip at the ball ! Comment from : Chris Bates |
This is brilliantpeople like Mike Bender, who teach the lower hand should be flexed trough the entire through swing, have no idea what they are talking about Comment from : Henry Smith |
Thanks for that great video craig!!! Excellent explanation of the wrist action!!! I´ve never been told that in 20 years of golf!!!! Take care, Harald Comment from : Harald Schuster |
Phil Mickleson has a huge release, so much so his Hangs separate or part post impact exactly the same as vijay Singh, not good Comment from : Lee Corcoran |
Craig Thanks for this gem I've been doing this for years, including short game to float the ball I'm hit the ball a long way and my playing partners asked me how I generate so much clubhead speed I demonstrated my release which I learnt as a junior and they said it was a flip Yes, but after impact 😌 Comment from : Bel-Canto77 |
Wrists loose and it s come naturally brDon t think about it brEnough think to worry about ! Comment from : Alain Xueabur |
Wow I can’t wait to try this on the range Comment from : Yo Ho |
This is very insightful, I have been a handle dragger forever and only recently have been trying to develop a proper release So I thank you for the info and video I played nine holes after watching and the positive effects on my swing and the increase in distance while seemingly swinging at 50 were amazing I also wonder, would this release be the same thing that Mike Austin was teaching? Comment from : Ed Bleackley |
Big help Thanka a lot Comment from : 정승원 |
Were you getting cheaper twilight practice balls? Comment from : Niguel |
It took me years to figure this out and I’m not sure why nobody talks about the turning the knuckles down and hitting on top of the ball Comment from : Travis Hernandez |
Mike Austin taught this 50 years ago Comment from : Franco Phillips |
I hit a bomb of a drive today taking my right wrist from extension and just before impact, flipping it to flexion It is a flip, yes BUT it is a flip that occurs thru the ball, so it is essentially a flip post impact Comment from : Jack Saint Jack |
Hi Craig Your stats on the angles of inclination of pros' shoulders at the top of the backswing at 40 degrees + and impact at 60 degrees +, compared to amateurs who get less steep as their handicaps increase, and the drills you give to help us get those angles closer to the pros, are incredibly helpful My question is about the measurement of a line drawn through the shoulders from a face on view, through impact, when the arms are fully extended towards the target, I guess when they're about parallel to the ground If you did a measuremenet of the pros in that position, would you see pretty much a straight up and down, twelve o'clock to six o'clock line from lead shoulder to trail shoulder, in other words a fairly vertical line, as opposed to amateurs who never get the trail shoulder that far rotated at release, so that they're more like from three o'clock to seven o'clock or thereabouts at full release? Comment from : Joe Scuderi |
so why does rory rory rory rory have a different wrist angle after release?? Comment from : nfdsndkfndsf |
Thanks Craig for all the fantastic explanations All the comments you get show how revealing your instructions are Now I understand how to release but the stabile flat left wrist in the back sving contradicted this release move for me But now I get it Allan from Sweden Comment from : Allan Saxlund |
Great video, thank you Always struggled with shaft lean Great drill Comment from : Scott Alvey |
Craig you sound like an Aussie Is that where you are located? Comment from : Ed |
can’t wait to swing my club after this lockdown Comment from : Areez Ariffin |
It seems it would be impossible to think of shaft lean and the release simultaneously I believe this must be a result of the left arm softened and connected to left side allowing the right hand to release the way it looks here Comment from : Jay Venable |
Beautiful swing😁 Comment from : Dave Satterfield |
Thanks Craig for this fantastic explanation of the real release Comment from : Robbie S |
A great tip! :-) Comment from : Bien Nho |
Looking at those videos as the hadicaps get better, to me, the most notable change, is how the right arm fully extends past the ball Actually, both arms The higher caps have a bent right arm past the ball or even a left arm chicken wing The energy is being “held back “ The pros release all of the energy and the wrists have to let go as well past the ball Comment from : John Rodgers |
Interesting Please comment on right wrist ulna deviation through and post impact Comment from : pigslefats |
Thanks CraigbrYou have given me the green light to use my hands again having tried to mistakenly follow the idea of a stable club face through impact by rotation of the body This has freed me up and my swing is starting to flow again!👍👍brKeep up the good work! Comment from : Dennis Ellis |
That's very interesting Craig and makes huge sense I do get soo confused though ! Are the wrists actively creating this ' snap ' release ? ( Rather than happening naturally ) and is there not a coaching ' thread' about the release being controlled by rotation and that the face isn't rolled at all ? As I said not doubting you at all just get confused ! Comment from : Mark Walker |
Spot on !! ( as usual) thanks Comment from : Darren Male |
Great description, thanks a lot But I would have loved to get a good drill to practice the correct wrist angels Comment from : Fbchipper |

Good explanation of how the wrist angles change after impact I've not seen many videos on this topic although there are lots explaining wrist angles up to impact Thanks for posting Comment from : John Creet |
Wish I'd seen this years ago! Thanks for this Craig - amazing to see that the very best ALL do what amateurs have been told NOT to do for so many years Comment from : John Pritchard |
Excellent video! I always thought a cupped lead wrist post impact was badbut the different camera angles shows otherwise A throw type release is the way to go, just don't throw too early Comment from : Eddie Gutierrez |
Another great video Craig 👍 Comment from : Andy Jermy |
Thanks Comment from : mg myint |
