Picking the right bike is the hard part You can be drawn too many bikes that may not be right for you by the design or even the color will pull you in brI'm at this point now but for me I'm not young, not going CX racing or just riding gravel I just want a cool great built bike for my money brI may end up with the wrong bike , GGG Comment from : Good boy Ringo |

Why does he keep calling it "Greevil"? It's spelled Grevil so pronounced like "devil", right? Is that a Mass thing? I'm pretty sure the long "e" pronunciation doesn't come from Italian! Comment from : Mike Stevens |

This was great, looking at getting into CX, having a gravel bike Not sure what I want to prioritize in terms of bike, some manufacturers or bike shops just list gravel and CX together so its nice to see a discussion of the differences One thing you didn't mention but I noticed was there seemed to be a variance in chain stay length for example in my size, some of what I would consider hardcore CX bikes had 422 length chain stays (Scott Addict CX, Cannondale SuperX) whereas I feel the Orbea Terra was more like 430 length chain stays and others were 425 Not sure if that would be as influential in ride and handling as the discussed seat tube and head tube angle or general wheelbase but was something I noticed Comment from : DEXVD |
|
3:06 when J Pow hosts it’s spelt “tires” Comment from : TN Stef |

There is very little difference between a cross bike and a gravel bike A few mm in top tube length, head tube height and the number of bottle mounts Check it out for yourself I use a cross bike for gravel as I was lucky it could take a 40mm WTB Nano tire Comment from : mjv1967 |
|
can anyone recommend bikes that are suitable for both gravel and cyclocross? some kind of sporty gravel bikes maybe? Comment from : HerrBertHerbert |

Kinda related to geometry but any tips on riding on a slightly larger bike? I ride a 54 road bike but my loaner bike for CX is a 56 Any tips on handling a larger bike (especially in the corners) as it feels a bit harder in the tighter turns Comment from : Inlets |
|
Great video And that's without throwing in sand, mud, off-camber, running, carrying and obstacles CX bike is great for more varied courses If you're riding on gravel for a long distance, sure, gravel bike is probably better Comment from : bianchi1885 |

A great question and expertly addressed by JPow 👏🏻 brI hope to ride cross on my Canyon Grail My feeling is that the gravel bike is faster than an equivalent CX bike on all terrain except a CX course, where its stable handling and lack of agility will cost through the slow, technical turns Comment from : Ross Cadogan |

At what point do you find you need need an actual cyclocross bike? I know as you move up the categories but if you are in the beginning category where you can use mountain bikes and gravel bikes- when’s a good benchmark that you really should look at upgrading Comment from : Elizabeth Major |
|
I have an all-black Orbea Terra with 2x and 35mm tires, here in Mexico City our "CX" rides are a mix of road, mud/dirt trails, loose rocks, MTB's single tracks and some sort of gravel going into steep hills and downhills but I can tell you, the Terra does all that greatly, it's an amazing bike!!! I think also aesthetically its my most beautiful bike, love it Congrats and thanks for the review! Comment from : Héctor Coss |
|

So is it Greevil or Grevil (rhymes with devil)? I get that a devil is evil, so it could go either way, but I’d guess the latter since it sounds similar to gravel Comment from : Jake Wisse |

JPow, what about the effect of barriers, belgian steps, steep inclines, et al? Seems like those might exacerbate the time differences a little 3 seconds could be recoverable 10-15 secs/lap may not be Comment from : Stephen Schilling |

Sand, run-ups and barriers are a huge factor in 'cross racing, and I would hazard a guess that the dedicated 'cross bike with its narrower tires and more purpose built frame and geometry will handle those challenges better than a gravel bike Comment from : Joel Terwilliger |
