aside from the video's conclusions, watching modern GCN videos kinda gives the response to this video too I prefer gravel tbh Comment from : linovi |
Why not an Endurance bike?brI ride road, gravel, cX, pretty much anything short of single track With a simple wheel/tire swap I believe the endurance bike is the best combination of both ❤ Comment from : Shelly Palumbo |
to compare on the road , you should change the tyres Comment from : royed31 |

Bought a gravel bike last year and really like it (Kona Rove DL) I wasn’t sure at first but getting off the pavement when I want on a drop bar bike is a really cool experience I came from road bikes and it’s been decades since I’ve ridden seriously Tried MTBs but just didn’t do it for me like a road but I did like the versatility of MTB hard tails so the “gravel” bike seemed to make the most sense and I love it Completed my first road century on it a couple of weeks ago That bike is so comfy it was a pleasure to be on all day The tires I’m running are Maxis Receptors which are very smooth and surprisingly fast😲 Comment from : Daniel |

I got a road bike for my needs! Comment from : Tyrfing🗡 |

Gravel bike is something a marketing executive thought up to sell to suckers Comment from : DON BOWLER |

Was a little apprehensive when buying this with the few negative reviews on here, but this was exactly the kind of bike I was looking for wwwyoutubecom/post/Ugkxn_jUDSlprMIeubd9rHdEAnv59nKfjcKv I plan to ride it on paved roadways and trails, and wanted a "Grocery Getter" so to speak After receiving it (without any damage), I had it out of the box, and fully assembled in about 30 minutes I did not have to look at the manual, and I'm glad because I did look at it after I got it together, and it looks like it's a manual for several different styles I did have to adjust the breaks and gear shifters, but that's been my experience with every bike I've owned There was one review in particular that made me nervous, saying it was not meant for someone 6'4", it was too short Well I'm 6'5" (230lbs) with a 36" inseam, and can tell you this bike fits perfectly, granted the seat is in it's highest safe position I've only had it for 3 days so far, and if things change I will update my review, but I put 26 miles on it so far, and it rides like a dream Very comfortable seating position The front suspension is good for the occasional rock or bump you hit on asphalt, but this bike is not made to be taken off road, and I'm OK with that I was particularly happy to see the wheels were trued perfectly I was expecting to have to take them in and have them trued at a local bike shop, as I've had to do with all my past bike purchases, but in this case they were already in great shape For the money, this is an awesome bike Comment from : Horace Smith |
You lost me when you said road bike gravel bike 16 times Comment from : Acevez |
As a kid I always had a mountain bike, but I recently bought myself a gravel bike because it's a medium in between what I wanted (road bike) and what I'm used to (mountain bike) I really want a TT bike now cause I want to do triathlons Comment from : The Sea |
Great video, thank you! I'm starting my journey into cycling and been really trying to decide what to get for my first bike I was undecided between road bike and mtn bike, but gravel bike sounds to be the perfect start! Especially since you can buy a second set of tires Cheers Comment from : Nimo Kali |

"That's a handy excuse isn't that Alex?" hahaha Comment from : Geometrist |
me and a friend are proud gravel bike owners, we have a saying, "road bikes are great, if you live in europe" But yeah it really just depends on what you're looking for For me I use the bike for both trainig and hopefully one day competing, and for commuting, so having a bike that is not going to puncture too easily on our fucked up roads is great, but also being able to go fast af, gravel bike was the way to go Comment from : Danny0_ |

Gravel bike is just versatile but inferior in both specific worlds 1 MTB and 1 Roadbike is still better Comment from : Mike Mercado |
With a gravel bike, you can have 2 sets of tires, 28c for road and 38 c for gravel Comment from : Rudy Elizondo |
I’ve found my gravel bike to be quite versatile, taking it on group road rides as well as taking it out to the wooded trails The tires are more suited to road but have enough tread to go off road, that is, not too knobby at all I’ve pondered building a road bike but have found myself building another gravel bike on an old Gary Fisher mountain bike frame It’ll be strictly off road build As much as I like road bikes, I’m not competitive and I don’t race so the gravel bike is likely where I’ll stay Plus they look wicked as hell! Comment from : Les ter |
Ribble do CF and Titanium versions The Ti is more expensive Is it better? Comment from : DAVID BOWEN |
The ? Is, The Gravel bike with same Road tires/wheel set as Road bike, and with power meters Testing on roads only, with some hills, and keeping a steady 250 watts See who has better time Comment from : DipBuyer83 |
In short the gravel bike is for those people who wants to cycle both on road and off road and doesnt really race and road bikes are for people who wants to experience racing and speed Comment from : Monke |
I have a carbon gravel I swap wheels on for road riding Despite being carbon, it's still not the best for climbing since, as you said, it has more material so it's more sturdy, but overall, for me/for now, it's better than spending $ on, and maintaining 2 bikes If I were to buy a dedicated road bike, I'd defintely look at a lightweight climbing bike since I ride a lot of hills Comment from : Vin Cent |
Get the gravel bike and have a second set of roadie wheels and tires to swap out CGR is king, though Just get one of those Comment from : T D |
Great bike for guys over 6' Comment from : Daniel Santiago |
Is there any reason to believe a gravel bike will support my 270 pound frame better than a road bike? I'm looking at an aluminum frame gravel bike vs a carbon frame road bike The road bike is about $600 more expensive I'm coming from a 2010 Giant Defy1 (aluminum) I don't ride off-road; I might, but I'm not sure I used to MTB Comment from : Dane Patterson |
Can one switch to gravel wheels and tires on his road bike? Comment from : Joey Ingles |
Love my Ribble Those knobbly tires would be gone Pain in the arse Comment from : Stephen Lamley |
Living in the Philippines, gravel bike is a perfect choice because our road terrain is just terrible here Comment from : Ikarimisu01 |
If you want bang for your buck, drop bars are a nonstarter You can literally get flat bars with drop bar ends as well as bullhorns to get all your desired hand positions, and you'll still come out ahead because you'll have saved far more than that on the cost of the groupset alone Let's face it, drop bar groupsets are just plain more expensive and that will be the case forever This is why every road bike I've ever owned are friction shifting only Comment from : Parashar Krishnamachari |
For older people the Gravel is a good choise more comfort lower gears for climbing I am 75 and love my Gravel bike also my knees are not the best I do road But some of the roads are like gravel roads you need a bit of comfort when your bones start to rattel Comment from : PJ Cooney |
What about a touring bike? Still a thing? Comment from : Piglet OfGreed |
Loving the idea of a gravel bike I don’t have a bike at all, I don’t know how, so wondering about one as my first I live more in the countryside so there’s plenty of gravel and uneven roads here Comment from : Paul Jakeman |
I think it depends where you want to ride #1 What is the terrain? I'm a roadie living in mtb heaven for most I don't like the sand on trails and the roads around here suck! Lots of ruts and broken asphalt that just beat you up I'm looking at getting an e gravel bike to smooth out the ruts and e for getting up the road to my house I haven't ridden my road bike much since moving to the mountains as it is too hard E gravel bike means I can ride again My choice is dictated by my terrain and where I want to ride, not by the bike itself Comment from : Roger Huston |
So basically a gravel bike is a is a roadbike with mountain by tires That's it I don't care if the disk in the back is bigger but that's all it is so for that buy a road bike and by 2 sets of bigger tires A gravel bike is something that was invented by somebody that had A very simple imagination Some other fact I remember having a rolled bike that I put bigger tires on it cause I was in the city That was like 20 years ago Now somebody does it and is a new type of bike get the f*** out of here Comment from : jrios662 |
In summary get a gravel bike and buy a set of road wheels for them road days Comment from : milk&cheese |
I have settled on two bikes now, full sus MTB for out and out red trails, a gravel bike with 40c nobbly tyres for adventure riding (MTB too slow on the flats and tarmac) and I have a secondary set of carbon wheels with 30c road tyres I put on the gravel bike for road riding - perfect setup for my range of riding Comment from : naj114 |
I choose the gravel bike, Giant Revolt Pro 1 Comment from : michael watters |
3 bikes is the right choice :) Road bike , Gravel bike , MTB :) Comment from : RC-Eski |
if I already have a good mountain bike , is there any point in a gravel bike , I may as well buy a good road bike ? ( im shopping for a new bike atm great vids ) Comment from : aevans692 |
It’s lower in price so you can buy more wheels and tires for the road Comment from : Carl Sidwell |
This is exactly what i needed for my guideance, i've been cycling my trail bike for a year and a half now and i wanted something that get me further with my endurance But i'm going with gravel bike becouse of the idea of changeing the tires etc, but also becouse the roads i'm cycling on do have unexpected holes and cracks that i think the gravel bike can handle better Comment from : Snorty |
How much faster will a road bike be on a 50 km road than the gravel bike ? With the same rider etc… 1 km /h faster? If they have the same tires but not the same wheels Comment from : Karl Ljungquist |
Who wants to be off road without suspension lol Comment from : pg40 |
This might be the best looking endurance bike on the market and at that price point I started the video and 15 minutes later I almost hit the button on one of these What a gorgeous bike! Comment from : triggamusician |
It’s a shame they didn’t actually put the carbon road bike wheels/ tyre combo on the gravel bike for a little segment A) its one of the reasons to get a gravel / CGR and b) would have been funny to see one of the guys left behind… Comment from : Deserted |
I’m too broke for either so… hybrid bike, I mean they were gravel bikes before gravel bikes were cool 😆/hj Comment from : Jeet |
Well let’s be honest here, you just want more bikes 😜 Comment from : christopher nicano |

Maybe Ribble should concentrate on delivering the orders it has Don't expect to have your bike within 12 months Comment from : Tony Millard |
MTB does everything , it might be slower on the road , but it can go where no road/gravel bike can go and thats what matters Comment from : Jonathan Vogel |
All right the elephant in the room I’ll come nobody’s swapping tires and testing the theory!??? Comment from : CANADIAN MIKE |
I own a gravel bike , And use 700c 42mm wide tyres I take it on every surface although I mainly use it to commute so I do more road riding and I find it perfect for me as I’m used to wider mountain bike tyres Comment from : Christopher Dean |
Would like to see a comparison like this but with less extreme gravel tire fairly light 38c semi slick, g one or in between like the tread on Spec sawtooth but maybe lighter weight Comment from : Ray Bradlau |
Endurance bike Comment from : Steve K |
As a mountain biker who has never ridden a road bike before, I would probably prefer a gravel bike over a road bike given the appaling state of our roads I'd want something more efficient on the road that a mountain bike but whilst retaining some ruggedness to be able to hit the odd pothole unscathed and to be able to bunny hop up and over stuff should the need arise and also something with grippy enough tyres to handle bad weather easily Road bikes just seem a bit to fragile for my liking Comment from : Neil Lowe |
I vote for Gravel bike with 2 sets of wheels, I have gravel wheels with 700x42c tyres 11-42 cassette, road wheels with 700-28c tyres and 11-36 cassette Comment from : Brit on a Brompton |
Lmao ribble CGR 105 back order dec 22 Comment from : Steve K |
I would like to see performances differences of both gravel and bikes with the following comparisonsbrA Speed performancebrB Climb performance Comment from : Clod Co |
The fit or how you feel on the bike is probably understated It would be an interesting comparison looking at specific bikes and set up for different body types Tall, short, heavy, light and how those other factors determine what kind of bike is better for you Comment from : Earl McIvor |
I live in a country with really bad roads so i think the gravel bike would be a better choice but i'm still sticking with my city/hybrid/cross bike? (idk it's origins but its fun) although road bikes are they really tough?Cuz i imagine hiting one pothole with this and the whole wheel just bending Comment from : tankBG |
Gravel bike any day of 5he week … Road riding is boring compared to gravel bikes Comment from : Chris & Sam Living the Dream |
Alexander Lievenbr0 seconds agobrJust received the new Ribble Gravel SL in its off the shelf satin copper Looks like an copper orange in the PR photos and a lighter orange here but in reality it was a horrible brown in real life Very disappointed Comment from : Alexander Lieven |

2,84 Millions of subscribers, that's amazing! Comment from : Chris S |
For example my country, we don't have like really good paved roads, mostly they are with big potholes or in poor condition there is like one highway where you can use all of the potential what road bike provides, and that's itbrbrSo I would say gravel bike all day, as we have beautiful nature, half of the country is along sea and tons of gravel roads to explore no crazy drivers on gravel roads, forest or sea sidebrTook my gravel on holiday to Germany, and had some amazing experience through mountain gravel roads! Comment from : Arturs Uzuls |
i cant think of a better bike for long distances than a gravel Comment from : SlaveLaboringKid |

Better to buy 29 XC MTB than Gravel 😎 Comment from : Pandu Darwoko |

Purchase my first new bike in June Canyon Grail 8 Just changed the light gravel tires to road 32mm tires last month since I found myself spending my rides on tarmac Last there bikes i owned were ten or more years ago Tech in new bikes is great So happy i got the Grail Now I’m looking at Endurance bikes and put the gravel ties back on so i would have choices Comment from : Greg Maher |
Is the Ribble gravel bike is custom colour ? What the colour scheme of it? Interesting to purchase one Comment from : Antonius Permadi |
That's not gravel! Comment from : daniel lovett |
Should you not put similar tires /wheels on, at least slicks for road work and tread for off road, not necessarily the same size, although if you are swapping wheels you might as well Comment from : Colin Gregory |
It depends on what kind of riding you like to do I live in a rainy area and ride a bicycle pretty much everywhere I go, and prefer a gravel bike fitted with road tires for almost all of my riding It's comfortable, which is important when you're older, but still reasonably fast and fun More importantly, most gravel bikes have mounts for fenders and racks, and most road bikes don't If you're riding for reasons other than pure speed, it's nice to be able to stay dry and carry stuff Comment from : sventice |
Great video, thanks! Comment from : Payam GH |
riding without brakes? Comment from : ericvt |
with a gravel bike with road tires, how would it perform with the gravel gear ratio in comparison with the road bike? Comment from : Rodrigo Fernandes |
I compared a Pinarello F12 to a Pinarello Grevil+ (same carbon material as the F12) with similar 28mm smooth tires and the F12 is def a faster bike but the Grevil+ isn't a slouch; just the F12 is faster Comment from : Joon Lee |
My preferred analogy is a sports car versus a rally car It’s still too light nimble and quick and racy to be considered an SUV I sold my road bike in 2017 and bought my first gravel bike from Scott and I have never look back For me it’s what a road bike always should have been I live in rural Canada and I don’t have a nice tarmac but I love riding a road bike and putting a set of semi slick 40s is perfect Gives me some cushion where I’m actually going quicker and smoother than small tires, yet not too big and heavy I ride alone so I imagine I wouldn’t be able to keep up with proper roadies but there’s barely any them around here anyway because the roads suck I just consider a gravel bike really an all condition road bike Comment from : REAPER-1xxx |
I’m 52 and now find road riding a little boring I’m about to switch to a gravel bike Comment from : Chainsawversustree |
Join GCN and ride all the bikes Just remember to say at the end "it all depends upon personal preference" or some such Comment from : Andrew Roche |
GCN is so poor no kickstand Comment from : Rosemary |
The copper Ribble is too gorgeous and I prefer a 1X Comment from : David Marquez |
Gravel bikes are amazing value 700c carbon aero wheels and 28c tires, pretty quick on road 700c gravel wheels and 40c tires for gravel and light singletrack 650B wheels and 47c Senderos, how far are you willing to go? ;) But I still want a Timemachine road and a YT Jeffsy… you know, when I have a spare 14 Grand lying around Comment from : Erik Johnston |
