Would you still buy an electric car? 🤔👇

Getting rid of my BMW iX3 electric car has not improved my life, as the EV was a headache and not practical for busy people! It is only suitable for Sunday shoppers The biggest problem with the BMW iX3 range was that it claimed 285 miles, but in realistic terms, the vehicle only did 160-180 miles on a single charge The vehicle also failed on its satalite navigation frezzing all the time Additionally, the car developed condensation during winter months, and if you used the heater, the range dropped even further The driver's seat foam started to sag after 1,000 miles Furthermore, the infrastructure for charging was a headache, and the BMW dealership never helps its customers! So, it's better to stay away from BMW EV vehicles! The bmw ix3 made in china and the quality was all the materials were poorly made! over priced at £65,000, it's only worth £30,000 maximum

@srbs73
That i4 M50 has the 20” wheels and not the 19” which has the 318m WLTP range you mention I think the 20” knocks of 50 miles of range and most people on the forums suggest 220 miles in warm conditions
Comment from : @srbs73

@cyberrogue9115
Petrol cars are more reliable in many situations When it comes to truly environmentally friendly cars, hydrogen cars are the real future Electric cars are not really environmentally friendly, and battery disposal is already an ecological disaster
Comment from : @cyberrogue9115

@pinkypoohable
Charging an EV at home is not cheap either You're better off with a diesel or petrol cars if you want to save money EV is a scam😅
Comment from : @pinkypoohable

@Neil2022
Over half of potential EV owners in the UK won’t have the ability to charge their car domestically They are screwed
Comment from : @Neil2022

@dscottstoness2436
I would suggest that the common man parks on the street and would constantly be seeing these kind of prices because you can't run an extension cord down the street This comparison is for the upper middle class with garages that regularly travels long distances I live in Canada where when the car fails you die at del40c I would consider an phev but not an e/del car In Canada most people that own e-cars have a spare ice car for winter travel I have a spare ford f150 super crew ice truck that I would have to use in the winter - it gets 12litres / 100km
Comment from : @dscottstoness2436

@dexcal8009
Amazing video, this helps a lot in convincing me to buy E-car, I only use it ot go to work every day and I will charge it at home thanks a lot for this
Comment from : @dexcal8009

@BornAgainCynic0086
My Toyota CR-V got 41 litres per 100 klicks @ 175 per litre that is $718 per 100 klicks With a range of 525 klicks it costs me $3770 in fuel A Tesla gets about 434 Klicks per charge @ 84Kwh @ $032 per Kwh, that is $2688 per charge or $3252 for 525 klicks, a saving of $518 or 000986 cents per klick I bought the CR-V for $34,000 and sold it 5 years later for $28,000 Servcie costs $120 per 10,000 klicks
Comment from : @BornAgainCynic0086

@arianitonline8748
but what about maintenance and service? how do those compare?
Comment from : @arianitonline8748

@richardvanderpool7540
What happens if you can't find a charging station
Comment from : @richardvanderpool7540

@sptrader6316
Electric rates will probably rise in the future due to inefficient Green generation (solar and wind) power
Comment from : @sptrader6316

@TheScreechyboy
Hmm ok but I charge my i4 at home on Octopus IO for 008p a kw meaning a 100 percent charge costs me just £669 I only use the public charges like Ionity to get me back home if I cannot make the round trip on a single charge and I would never put in 100 in a public charger, i'd only add 20-30 percent to see me back comfortably
Comment from : @TheScreechyboy

@henryhsu1614
You have to include insurance and annual registration
Comment from : @henryhsu1614

@KINGKING10109
Also Bear in mind gust, this was when Petrol prices were at their absolute Highest last yearbrbrPrices have dropped by 50p a litre nowbrbrAnd they were Still cheaper to fuel up than the electric cars
Comment from : @KINGKING10109

@DC-wq6hx
Electric cars in the UK don't benefit much it seems Where I live it cuts the cost to travel down so much more From $1000 to $400 And free public chargers XD
Comment from : @DC-wq6hx

@thomaspaaruppedersen6781
I own an i4 eDrive40 (so the smaller one with more range) and I can offer some comments brbrDo not buy an EV, unless you can home charge >90 of your consumptionbrbrIonity is very expensive (unless you have a subscription), but home changing would lap around petrol filling in fuel cost (OK, they admit that late in the video)brbrAdaptive regen is the bmost/b efficient! Coasting is significantly more efficient in utilizing kinetic energy than regen I mostly drive in EcoPro, because that mode employs more coasting than Comfort or Sport, which fits well to my driving style from 30 years of driving (lifting the right foot when anticipating a slowdown) I use Sport for fun or winding roads (adaptive dampers) The car is equally efficient in all modes - pretty much brbrThis test is about as relevant as when they tested a Prius going flat out against a BMW M3 on a track and the M3 got better gas mileage brbrBut it is true that motorway charging of EVs costs about the same if not more per mile as petrol powered It's the other 80-90 of your driving when you save And if you're going to visit family 200 miles away, perhaps they'd let you use their charger It's easy to calculate the cost
Comment from : @thomaspaaruppedersen6781

@anthoniequijano3436
Ev sucksbrHahaha😂
Comment from : @anthoniequijano3436

@josipmatic4732
Ionity is realy expensive charger
Comment from : @josipmatic4732

@zulkarnainmakhtar127
Stopping for recharging EV during a journey is a big waste of time
Comment from : @zulkarnainmakhtar127

@paulmorley8509
What about the cost to the environment, particularly in terms of air quality and ambient noise? Doesn't that tip things a bit in favour of electric vehicles?
Comment from : @paulmorley8509

@markrobertdevison1227
I own 600 Tesla shares but I drive a 2024 BMW X5, Xdrive On a full tank it goes over 650 miles I can fill it up in 2 minutes 25 seconds I'm sticking with my BMW
Comment from : @markrobertdevison1227

@Pachupp85
2 pounds per litre? Wow So it was like the most expensive petrol around europe At least electric cars dont look that stupid in this comparison
Comment from : @Pachupp85

@thedrummerboy1215
how about insurance costs for both types of cars too?
Comment from : @thedrummerboy1215

@kendryden7575
199 per litre!!!! I would walk it lol
Comment from : @kendryden7575

@user-jr3eb5oo3g
Whats not mentioned is resale value EVs are the pits Typically lose 50 -60 of value in 2 years Only the rich can afford that
Comment from : @user-jr3eb5oo3g

@dmw13
More expensive to buy, more expensive to run, huge depreciation and all comes with added anxiety Where do I sign? Not!
Comment from : @dmw13

@terfy
If my car break down, I want to be able to find a mechanic to repair it and almost every mechanic can repair GAS carsbrIf I run out of fuel, I want to be able to refill it without requirements to use a non-anonymous smartphone app also, I can quickly refuel with a bottle of gasoline, where can you can a small mobile spare battery for emergency use ? there is nonebrGasoline cars don't randomly explodes as EV cars does and don't come with "oh its only chinese EV that explodes"brso, CO2 footprint small or large, I don't care, EV no thank you I stick to GAS
Comment from : @terfy

@TenPester
Not to mention the insane cost difference of both cars Insurance is more with an EV too Zero chance of me entertaining it
Comment from : @TenPester

@mooncoinphoto
What a joke EVs are
Comment from : @mooncoinphoto

@joriewillard8826
Yeah let's compare costs using one of the most inefficiënt electric cars ever made With a model 3 or Y long range you could have made the roundtrip Thanks gas chills misrepresenting electric vehicles Shame on you !!
Comment from : @joriewillard8826

@retrodude9185
The real test shouldn’t be the cost of running the car, but the amount of pollution the car puts out on a trip in comparison It’s about reducing fossil fuel emissions and not the price of a trip It would be interesting to get those figures to see if EVs are greener and how much by
Comment from : @retrodude9185

@CandycaneBeyond
This is why i like the BMW i3 Rex I bought a 2014 for $14k Gets 52 kpm plus fill up at gas ⛽ station to top up to get to my destination Sad that they stopped making it

@StefanKees
Over 2 years my e-Mokka TCO is roughly 40 of my Mokka GSbrPlus it's faster, more fun and quieter

@user-pq1mz2fy1k
What's the point of owning a car that can't make it to where you want to go ?
Comment from : @user-pq1mz2fy1k

@idailyinsights
EVs definitely aren't practical for road trips but if you're someone who only drives to town and back they definitely pay for themselves
Comment from : @idailyinsights

@eliorchervin
חשמל הוא יקר והמכוניות מסוכנות
Comment from : @eliorchervin

@TheSolarGuyJK
Dude, your electricity os too expensivebrAt the same cost, I'd get x4 kWh
Comment from : @TheSolarGuyJK

@jameslowry1
I have never been very patient so the very fact it could take up to an hour or more to fully charge an electric car battery from zero puts me off the whole idea of buying and keeping one to begin with
Comment from : @jameslowry1

@lesklower7281
Doesn't surprise me at all EVs are much dearer to run than an equivalent petrol car and don't have very good ranges well another reason why EVs don't make sense in Australia and that is why in Australia EVs make up less than 1 of all vehicles registered in Australia because the simple fact is the size of Australia
Comment from : @lesklower7281

@simongl1985
Some places charges 95p per kwh on the motorway😢
Comment from : @simongl1985

@Reza-nz2re
Imagine you are about to go to work and forget to charge the car
Comment from : @Reza-nz2re

@scuddyleblanc8637
Need to find the breakeven point for the EV to save on emissions It could be quite substantial when comparing the efficient ICE (40 MPG) with the long-range EV, possible as much as 200,000 miles The breakeven point would be much less for a small, short, ranged EV, as compared to an average ICE
Comment from : @scuddyleblanc8637

@JammNickk
Longer journey, can confirm at current gridserve 88p/kwh, petrol is cheaper still
Comment from : @JammNickk

@philiptata3607
It’s interesting given the limited proportion of electric cars currently on the road, how many early adopters rush to make comments defending their choice of EV The reality is that even if you do have home charging this kind of journey, would most likely require mini to use public charging Therefore it is a fair comparison in those circumstances, for many of the hassle and extra cost of EV, plus the increased insurance and the uncertain depreciation make us pleased that early adopters are willing to stick their necks out
Comment from : @philiptata3607

@mitchreeves2728
All of the 2 year old EV's currently sat on dealership forecourts priced 50 off the new price tells me all I need to know about how good EV's are I nearly fell for an EV 3 years ago, that car today is worth less than half the new price My Toyota Hybrid however has only lost £5000 in 3 years, and I average 67mpg I will be sticking with hybrids for as long as I can Plus, environmentally they make more sense than EV Your typical hybrid uses 10 to 20 times less battery resource than a single Tesla model 3 So resource wise what sounds better, 1 EV, or 20 hybrids?
Comment from : @mitchreeves2728

@sat7755
One thing you have certainly ascertained and that is the horrible efficiency of the BMW electric, which probably is one of the most inefficient EV in the world Had you used a Tesla Y or M3 to compare it would have cost you very close to half of the cost incurred by the EV BMW Been driving a Tesla Model 3 for almost 4 years now and comparing to my Honda Accord type R 1999 my operating expenses are down to about 1/3 of my petrol car, with the added significant discovery, that the Tesla cost me absolutely 0 in maintenance costs , and even though it is faster than my old type R, but it is also absolutely worry free convincing me that I will never again consider any ICE For at least 10 good reasons that I will not even waste my time in elaborating The ICE cars are at the very end of their road, whichever trick BMW might use to revive it, it will never work, against a Tesla being widely superior in every single significant parameter of comparison Tesla car sales have been growing on an average 50 a year for the last 7, while all ICE cars in all their versions including hybrids have been on a accelerating sales slide worldwide, and no amount of tricks will change that for the foreseeable future I hope BMW and all others will be smart enough to realize that there is no turning back as the consumers decided on the perceived superiority of EV
Comment from : @sat7755

@Schaneification
Depend on how you use your Car Most people only drive 50 to 60 miles a Day and only make a long drive once a year brSo if you charge at home the EV is much cheaper
Comment from : @Schaneification

@pjazzz353
shocking result
Comment from : @pjazzz353

@Mariazellerbahn
5:00 You WILL get better mpg on motorways AND at faster speeds than we are led to believe brMy car would average 30mpg while knocking about in the UK but on the German autobahns, I was doing 100mph and averaged almost 60mph Once up to ANY speed and you feather the accellerator to keep a constant speed (or use cruise control) you will sip fuel Forget that 56mph nonsense
Comment from : @Mariazellerbahn

@donnolin2032
Turn that highway test into an an around town test and the results would be upside down I am on my third electric car and will never go back to a petrol car Went the store today and came back with more miles than when I left🎉 Let me see you do that with a petrol car
Comment from : @donnolin2032

@IIIIIIPETEIIIIII
Another report that demonstrates without any doubt, that EVs are an expensive to buy, expensive to run inconvenience The ICE powered equivalents won’t hands down on all counts!
Comment from : @IIIIIIPETEIIIIII

@sirjosephwhitworth9415
What a statement to have to make when you reach your destination 'Oh, I made it that's the important thing!' That says everything about the real experience of a long EV journey
Comment from : @sirjosephwhitworth9415

@CraigLedden
“That’s okay I’m not particularly in a rush and I made it, that’s the important thing” that’s the future of motoring Just being glad you made it, never mind being on time Lol
Comment from : @CraigLedden

@QAYWSXEDCCXYDSAEWQ
This is comparing oranges with apples Of course, the dinosaur juice model will do far better than the EV on a long distance journey who drives from London to Leeds on a daily basis
Comment from : @QAYWSXEDCCXYDSAEWQ

@jamesgatward1985
Good thing electricity is not taxed at the same rate as petrol!
Comment from : @jamesgatward1985

@mrdpunto
A fun test but not realistic You're not driving the electric car how you actually would You would put it in eco mode and would turn up regen etc on a long journey at motorway speeds
Comment from : @mrdpunto

@TheProAce99
yall are paying about 930 USD per 1 US gallon How do you even live?
Comment from : @TheProAce99

Hydrogen
Comment from : @Edward-kb8iz

@harryjones5260
clear and easy to view presentation, and honest for what it was clearly the real benefit is for home-chargers with short journeys to make
Comment from : @harryjones5260

@user-ec7dc7hh9o
Cost per KWH on this test are VERY HIGH? Double the costs available here, so why?
Comment from : @user-ec7dc7hh9o

@495327
How long does it take you to charge your car compared to filling up with petrol ?
Comment from : @495327

@fetB
12:50 why is that Also it new tech vs 100yr old refined Take a look at it in 20 yrs
Comment from : @fetB

@thomasandrews7727
Total cost of ownership beyond about 5 years the EV costs less brThe average driver pays about 1/2 the cost per mile to drive on electricity as opposed to gas
Comment from : @thomasandrews7727

@pigboykool
No thank you to EV It is expensive, long charge time but short driving range, toxic to the environment, danger battery chemical fire, short battery life & expensive battery replacement cost, and tons of more problems!
Comment from : @pigboykool

@honahwikeepa2115
Does it matter? What matters is the impact the EV's have on the environment and people when it come to sourcing lithium
Comment from : @honahwikeepa2115

@thomaskibsgaard4692
the chargeing stations must be makeing an insane amout of money The chargeing prices dont go down when electricty is almost free
Comment from : @thomaskibsgaard4692

@samholy1
That's not a fair comparison, the range toping Ev should have been the i4 edrive 40 Not the M50
Comment from : @samholy1

@user-oz4mx1di7t
Don't forget to factor in that ev is more expensive to buy in the first place and the depreciation is a lot more
Comment from : @user-oz4mx1di7t

@davidperry7128
Wrong question The ONLY question is Are EVs better for the environment? For the planet's sake and our own we need to stop burning fossil fuels, in ICE cars and Hybrids and in power stations Electrification is the only way for cars, trucks, and buses
Comment from : @davidperry7128

@RobPearsonFrogMan
There seems to be little or no mention of the CO² emissions for all these journeys - this being the fundamental reason for switching to EVs I'm very surprised you've not covered this!?
Comment from : @RobPearsonFrogMan

@TankUni
I don't have either an electric or an ICE vehicle and there seems to be some sort of push back going on against EV's (which I suspect is industry organized) - but what I can say as a pedestrian is that I hope electric vehicles do away with petrol/diesel vehicles quickly, because I'm sick of breathing in the exhaust fumes when I'm on the footpath
Comment from : @TankUni

@andym1548
Now do it again with a real wortld scenario where 95+ of your charging is at home A tesla Model 3 at 4m/kw will do around 4000 miles for £90 of home charge on something like Intelligent Octopus £90 is about average for filling a medium size plus family car now (12 gallons at £750 / gallon) and that gets you at best 400-500 miles Bye bye ICE
Comment from : @andym1548

@dalea4350
Nope, no full ev for me I'm hoping the new 4runner will have a plug-in hybrid option Simply the best choice
Comment from : @dalea4350

@vailydragon
The drive to Leeds is frustrating enough without loading it with worry and range anxiety Good luck with that on a regular basis!!
Comment from : @vailydragon

@rommelfcc
Try a hybrid
Comment from : @rommelfcc

@MassiveBenny
So we've learned that EV's are more expensive to buy, insure, repair and fuel up, they're less convenient and flexible, more stressful, ethically dubious and less recyclable brbrCool, what a step forward in transportation!
Comment from : @MassiveBenny

@chillfluencer
This is as if the mobile phobe manufacturers of the past wozld have asked customers: "Do you want to buy our cheap mobile phones or one of these new Smartphones that cost several times more than our already highly evolved mobile phones?"
Comment from : @chillfluencer

@iFrodoFr
Hopefully in real life you never top-up to 100 in Ionity or similar fast charging network, just liek you never top-up fully a petrol car in a motorway gas stationbrbrEven if you can't charge at home for initial top-up, you can charge at public charging 11kW stations which are way cheaper (around 0,3-0,4£/kWh), just like you top-up a petrol car in your local gas station outside of the motorway
Comment from : @iFrodoFr

@thedoctor007dfw
My mild hybrid Audi A4 Avant 35 TDI is about as adventurous as I want to be with electric cars for nowbrbr£55 to fill up gets me 400 miles approx with mixed driving It's a smaller tank than the petrol equivalent but got 70mpg the other day on the A38 to work
Comment from : @thedoctor007dfw

@stevehayward1854
You have tested in the worse case scenario with EV's that have poor efficiency compared with the market leadersbrEV's are a lot more efficient around town, thanks to regen braking and ICE cars are very poor Maybe you should do the same test around town and add in the massive costs that servicing an ICE vehicle requires compared to the £000 cost of EV's
Comment from : @stevehayward1854

@stevehayward1854
I wonder why you decided to reduce the regen braking, seeing as it can add up to 25 around town and maybe you should do a comparison in every day situations like around town were 99999 of all mileage is done, with full regen of coursebrI still cant understand why you turned off a feature of the EV, it just doesnt make sense
Comment from : @stevehayward1854

@stevehayward1854
You have compared a highly efficient petrol with one of the an inefficient EV and using the most expensive fuel costsbrYou should have compared the Tesla M3 LR against your BMW It's like comparing a 50mpg with a 20mpg car, also Tesla fuel prices are lowerbrWhen you look at the overall cost savings of EV's you have not taken in considerable savings in the virtual zero servicing and maintenance cost of running an EV
Comment from : @stevehayward1854

@pkpk-mu5cp
Wooou petrol more cheap driving like elektric petrol best
Comment from : @pkpk-mu5cp

@mhoward181
