Couple of things: First, for Euro airlines will accept the smaller carry on suitcase, Second, I've only experienced 8 kilos per carryon max

True story: On our first trip to Europe together (to Barcelona), my wife packed five pairs of shoes None of them were suitable for lots of walking (especially as the city gets hilly pretty quickly) She came home with seven pairs Needless to say, she packs more strategically now! LOL

Richard Zelinka
Generally good advice but I have to disagree with some of this I travel carry-on only For a warm weather trip to Europe I pack a pair of those "dorky" pants that convert to shorts My pants are dark colored without lots of extra pockets and the convetible zipper is covered by fabric so they look pretty much like normal pants That means I can wear them in the evening to a restaurant and don't have to pack a separate pair of shorts, eliminating unnecessary bulk and weight Also, unless I can count on dry weather, I wear light weight "hiking" shoes similar to those you showed (also a dark color) because they are waterproof If you just have normal shoes, you are in trouble if you run into heavy rain and your shoes get soaked
Comment from : Richard Zelinka

Michael Winters
I’ll never NOT bring my dorky hiking pants Refuse to wear jeans, so hiking pants, shorts, and slacks only Don’t care about the hate for them Comfort for me
Comment from : Michael Winters

Savannah Lee
Did you find the waist strap comfortable? Looks like its just a thin strap?

Extra pro tip Just buy an European USB charger with 2 or 3 ports No more dealing with clunky (and expensive) adapters that fall off the outlets anyway

Regarding the travel adaptor - insure that all of your electronics are suitable for 220 volts @ 50 Hz You'd be amazed at just how hot a hair dryer can get and how brief its life will bebrAs for the rest I've traveled a lot in Europe By motorcycle And I avoid cities So my travel packing tips are somewhat different - but your comments on clothing are spot on

Excellent advice Sharing my key takeaways note of the video with everyonebrbr00:42 - Mistake 1: Bringing the wrong bagbrbrAvoid bringing a giant roller bag or a huge checked suitcase Opt for a lightweight, portable bag that meets carry-on requirementsbrbr02:24 - Mistake 2: Not planning your luggage strategybrbrChoose between the one bag traveler strategy or the two bag traveler strategy Consider using a packable day pack for added conveniencebrbr06:18 - Mistake 3: Bringing too much clothingbrbrAvoid overpacking by focusing on versatile clothing and creating a mini capsule wardrobe Consider lightweight, moisture-wicking, and wrinkle-resistant itemsbrbr10:37 - Mistake 4: Buying unnecessary itemsbrbrAvoid buying unnecessary hiking or outdoor gear if you're not planning on engaging in those activities Use what you have for photography and don't overinvest in guidebooksbrbr12:24 - Mistake 5: Forgetting important itemsbrbrEnsure you have your passport and make photocopies of important documents Don't forget the right travel adapter and download essential travel apps before your trip

Mel Abshier
Lost luggage I've got over 2 million miles of flying And never have had my checked luggage "lost" I've had it delivered the next day twice Once travelling to England Once to South Korea In my carryon bag i've always travelled with an extra set of underwear, socks, and sometimes a different polo shirt as a precaution The airline will usually give you an amenities bag with deodorant, shaving kit, toothbrush and toothpaste if your checked bag does not arrive And i've checked a bag every time i've left the USA
Comment from : Mel Abshier

B WO
I can’t understand people who bring large rolling bags for short trips to anywhere It seems so miserable and limits mobility

My #1 tip is to plan to do laundry while there Every European city has a laundromat or a wash/dry/fold place It will cost you almost nothing, you can carry half as much, and you get to do a uniquely local experience

I don't understand this "panic" of bringing a suitcase you make it sound like Europe is dirt roads everywhere Also, dear Americans, stop cramming in 5 countries and 20 cities into your 2 week trip Just pick a country and relax a bit NEVER only bring one pair of shoes Bring 2 at least Nothing better than being able to change into fresh shoes after a long day of exploring
Comment from : Mela P

Cheryl Noel
Definitely have all your prescription medication in your carry-on Have a list of your meds and doctors in your phone Scan a copy of your passport and drivers' license in your phonebrIf you are going to lease a car, check the driver requirements Some places require you to have a international drivers' license which you can get on-line (much cheaper to get ahead of time)

Comment from : Andrea Douglas

Oh, and as a small framed woman, it was a terrible idea to not have wheels On the bright side, there are backpacks with wheels, and even separate wheels that can be attached to travel bags brbrBut for someone like me, it was extremely important to not tire and hurt myself by carrying my luggage Feeling tired and achy can really hurt my decision-making and hudgement, and take away from the experience
Comment from : M H

Janet Christian
You lost me at "backpack" Impractical for short, older women who probably have bad hips (you know just like me) I love my small roller It's easy for me to manage and doesn't put strain on my neck, spine, or back And I don't care what they "ergonomic" backpacks claim, all of them are hard on me
Comment from : Janet Christian

Nicholas Wright
Why don’t you like zip off pants (pants to shorts)?

Try being 70+ years old with a backpack We have meds that young people don’t have I’ve chosen a wheeled carry on with a smallish backpack that fits over the handle My wife, however, takes a 26” roller + a carryon with a pass through I’ve given up trying to reduce her luggage

I've made a few mistakes, but am learning I wore a pair of gym sneakers last trip to Europe Comfortable for the paved streets of most of the USA, but should have brought my more sturdy work sneakers for the rough cobblestone

Bob Joned
"Europeans are stylish" yet when ever I see them over here, they, especially the eastern ones, are in a track suit
Comment from : Bob Joned

Paul Curran
It’s just Europe It is no longer the exotic destination of the past Everything is available You could leave tomorrow and buy whatever you forget or need brbrThere’s a bit of overthinking here that “Europe packing” is more exotic than traveling in the US Just learn to pack lightbrbrThat said, lugging and managing a backpack through airports is a hassle Much more relaxing to be on a layover where you’re not worrying about your backpack You can bring a small day pack for your essentials Send the rest in a roller Have you hiked through multiple terminals with a backpack? Save yourself from the hunchback look brbrIt is undignified to roll a suitcase through a city Take Uber to go door to door Rent a car and you don’t have to lug your luggagebrbrAnd as another commenter said - you can always buy anything you forget or need at your destination And you shop local for a souvenir you get to use long term and remember “I got that belt next to the pantheon”
Comment from : Paul Curran

Loki Starwind
A lot of this video is obvious stuff and like half the video is an advertisement for a specific brand of backpack
Comment from : Loki Starwind

Fred Osmers
Two things to consider: Instead of buying a relatively expensive plug adapter, a quick trip to a local hardware store when you get there to buy a small powerstrip and a couple cheap adapter plugs will set you up Total cost is less than 12-15 dollars and you can give it away at the end of your trip For shoes — look at trail running shoes They’re light in weight, supportive, have grippy, non-slip soles and can be easily washed with laundry or even shower soap An example would be the Altra Lone Peak 6

Enjoy your videos; well-paced, useful information and interesting presentation Good job Regarding guidebooks? Love Rick Steves/Hate Rick Steves, literally Most of what he covers, he does really well I showed up in Grenada without reservations for the Alhambra Rick's guide offered several suggestions for getting tickets I think I would have had to miss the number one sight in Grenada without his guidebook On the other hand, I was in Italy and decided to stop in Modena I packed only the Rick Steves Italy guidebook and there was no mention of Modena in the rather large book There is a lot to see in Modena, but you wouldn't know it existed if you relied only on his guidebook Another downside with Rick Steves' guidebooks is some of the information is badly outdated, even when people send him updated information/corrections (I know, I've sent a few) One example comes to mind, he still talks about Traveler's Checks Crazy, right? I still consult his guidebooks but am more likely to take notes from his guidebook and bring a Michelin Green Guide (if I can get one) They're old but they cover way more potential stops when you're trying to get off the beaten tourist path (like Steves used to preach)
