Surely this isn't the current crop of presenters attempt at Road Bike Party 4? Can we have a reaction video on GMBN please from Martyn Ashton? ;-) Comment from : DarkpowderUK |

For me it's simple, I stick with a flat bar, because going to a drop bar anything automatically raises the price $1000 Comment from : The1Music2MyEars |
The real problem for me for dropbars is if you are in a slope in a city with cars around your position makes it very risky to have some proper speed, you can't see much of your surrounding and i feel like you have much less strength to apply on the brakes in the case of mechanical and not hydraulic, for me it feels very dangerous, also your position so low means that your head would probably be the first thing to hit if you are ejected from your bike Comment from : S W |
for me it's simple Drop bars look like a road bike and i like road bikes, so i use them Comment from : erdemee bilgee |
It is possible to assemble your flat bar road bike with the height of the bars approximately halfway between where the tops and the drops would have been A longer stem is useful and you can get a 17degree one and have it angled downwards This in conjunction with your headset in its lowest position should give you a set of pretty low flat bars Comment from : Lenny McLean |
The brake design on drop bars are dangerous compared flat bars Comment from : |

I love drop bar bike alot! Comment from : Electronic |
wow I enjoy watching your video, very informative and I did not get bored😍 Comment from : Alex Bauzon jr channel |

I would say there’s a few things to consider with a bike and the handle bars What body type you are matters, a tall person will probably be more likely to benefit from drop bars A shorter person might not have the speed as it were but they could put out a lot of power and find the standard bars are more comfortable for them One size doesn’t fit all and it’s like that with a bike, the right frame size and setup can make a noticeable difference The ability to stay in control is important and when you need it the position that works for you It might be quicker to ride with drop bars but it doesn’t always mean it’s comfortable and the lower position might mean you don’t have such great vision ahead On a bike with standard bars you have a different view or perspective and that has its own advantages I would suggest riding a Dutch cycle compared to a bike from the UK, the posture is better and the whole journey is easier to do You can spend a significant amount of money on a bike, choose the one that suits you and your budget, it will make all the difference Allow for extra items too, like a helmet that you can put on without a mirror, brcomfortable cycle goggles and don’t be afraid to make some mistakes, it’s part of the learning curve Comment from : Mark Marten |
i know this video is over 5 years ago, but try flipping the stem of the straight bar to get lower Comment from : Lionel Plays lol |
Flat bar for complicated commute environment it is Sure, you can go eith drop bars too but seems like flat bar lets you slowly maneuver without stopping or changing grips Comment from : Drill_Fiend |
Can't you just use the flat section in the drop bar for stability? Comment from : The CubeRunner |
came from an MTB backround i bought a race bike i love it so much Comment from : TOG ii Super Heavy Tank 🇿🇦 |
This might be from 5 years ago however a saying here is,brFlats are however more comfortable since the difference is the way you hold the handlebars, flats are more comfortable and better in turning, but in speeds, cornering drops take the win because brRoads with drops don’t usually turn the handlebar but rather bend the whole bike in result of a corner Comment from : Monke |
Great bike Cummute to work Comment from : Alex CH |
Hate flat bars You can ride upright and down low with drop bars as well as move your hands in multiple positions With flat bars one position only Plus, the steering is more nimble in traffic with drop bars since the bike stays straighter at low speed and has a more narrow profile I’ve ridden both in traffic and flat bars suck The drop bars did better in their beam test so i guess they want us to believe their words and not our eyes for some reason The choice is a no brainer Comment from : David Canatella |
Its not about the bike y'know Comment from : Indie Sebastian Rudica |
HOLY, someone got a little too excited with Sponsorblock marking a lot of "fillers" in this videobrAnyway, flat bars for me Drop bars bikes (*cough* almost all road bikes) just seem to be more expensive than flat bars I'm not after speed, and I don't like an uncomfortable lower position I also like, no, need to peek behind me when I need to because cars Comment from : TheLazylonewolf |
For me, the answer was neither! I actually love my handlebars that sweep back toward me so I'm sitting in an upright position These are more commonly seen in the Netherlands and other parts of EuropebrbrI'm never going anywhere I'd need the extra speed from drops, and the flat bar feels too sporty and makes me lean forwardbrbrThe swept bars let me sit up in a comfortable, dignified manner and give me excellent 360 visibility Which is perfect for my trips around town Comment from : Een Schildpad |
Bar ends on cuted short flat Comment from : vitormalta |
It's very simple afterall:brJust road cycling: Drop barbrTrekking, city, downhill: flat barbrMy trekking/commuting bike has a flat bar, and I added a few bar end horns for more gripping positions Comment from : GeoStreber |
5:05 no no no That's simply incorrectbrIf you need to change position when using a flat bar, you need to install bar ends to your flat bar Comment from : Qorax |
Drop bars feels so weird I'm having a hard time breaking without going to drops Comment from : lichunn |
I definitely prefer flat bars as an urban commuter More upright I can see idiots in cars better, and it's easier to dodge those idiots or trash in the street or something Comment from : dudestir127 |
what if you put a tt bar on the flat bar for speed? do tou think it can go head to head with the drop bars? Comment from : Mark Lawrence Dimaandal |
For me the drop bar is more comfortable on my wrists The flat bar forces you to twist your wrists (much like a traditional computer mouse vs ergonomic one) This is very uncomfortable on long journeysbrbrThe Dutch style bike gets around this by curving the handles back towards you, so you have a more comfortable upright position that is also easy on your wrists It is a VERY upright position though! You wouldn't want to go far on it Comment from : Neil Emms |
Drop bars 100 , simply put more options for hand ergonomics They both have there purpose but if I use flat bars I normally include bar ends just for that purpose Comment from : lv2keepfit 49 |
Awesome video and thank you for sharing ❤❤ Comment from : Julio Defreitas |
Flat bars are too wide for road riding, especially when Audi drivers pass too close at a rate of knots Comment from : Alan D |
I also find “flat bar road bikes” (hybrids) not only much cheaper than the equivalent spec road bike, but much easier to fit to a person I’m still trying to get my saddle on my road bike to stop hurting, while my hybrid bike hasn’t gotten any fit adjustments in the 3 and a half years I’ve had it Definitely recommend for more casual cyclists Comment from : Jeet |
I think if you not on a race and doing <100km ride flats are ok Comment from : vadymvv |
Flat bars with horns, much much better Comment from : Matej Nosál |
Can you get a drop bar that's as wide as a flat bar? I can't stand trying to turn with a drop bar Comment from : Blue Fox |
I'm obese and I find the drop bars on my new (used) bike very hard to use, but I'm motivated now to lose weight to gain flexibility Comment from : Erik |
The crowd so good xD Comment from : Random Damian |
I have both handle bar styles I actually like the flat bar more Its easier on my hands I seem to ride the same speeds on both, the flat bar is on the mountain bike My tip speed I got was done on the mountain bike, so far I hit 32 mph on that, haven't cracked 30 mph yet on the road bike with the drop bars Comment from : Ronald Weidner |
As a newbie, I feel my choise of flat bar was the correct one to make as I do struggle with ballance and manuvering, when speed is not a concearn at all Also more upright position makes looking around much easier and I feel safer on the road Comment from : Kaas |
8:59 lovely Wilhelm scream :) Comment from : Sleepy tokki |

People with drop bars look like snobs and yes it’s quite obvious on the trails cuz they act like assholes! Plus you look like a complete douche! They don’t belong on trails period Comment from : Black Philip Alvarez |

Why waste such good eggs my asian self is crying 😢 Comment from : Thedork |
one thing you missed was body size an shape drops would be ruled out for anyone with a larger gutbri ha riser bars (flats slightly raised) i still get 3 at least position normal, palms only, palms on ends, knuckles and heal and hands fingers and thumbs over the top, sometimes fingers out all but the first are clearly when cruising at slower speeds where control is not important I feel commutable with these which may be dismissed due to low control and ease at which your hands could come free But i have been cycling as my only form of transport (never driven) for 50 years Comment from : Lance McCaughan |
I prefer hybrid bars with brake on the flats Comment from : Brian Johnston |
I like the killer tiller (nitto city bars or similar) It's like drops but higher up and behind the stem Comment from : Mountain Bike Mike |
I feel like you have to be this british or at least western european for these things brAll I ever experienced when riding with a drop bar was "ZGZGZGGZGZGZGZGZGZG OMG IF I DROP INTO ONE MORE POT HOLE I'M GOING TO DIIIIEEEEE!!!"brIn the end, I had to conclude that drop bar was much better for clothes drying while I ride my MTB than the flat bar is Comment from : coding husky |
I'm adding aero bars to my flat bar bike for city streets that are long with no stops Comment from : 𝟺𝟷𝟷𝟻𝚜𝚝𝚎𝚟𝚎𝚌𝚘𝚖 |
Incredibly helpful Thanks Comment from : Nick Merchant |
A slight variation on the flat bar bike might be a flat bar bike with bar ends If the bar ends are slanting forward they give a more aero position + alternate hand position That was interesting findings about the speed though Thanks much appreciated Comment from : HRH Bucket |
I’ve never understood why drop bar bikes are popular outside of racing It makes no sense Comment from : NateTV |

Drop bar anyway Comment from : Ruslan Nikiforov |

Drop bars are one of the worst things to happen to cycling I firmly believe drop bars and race-type bikes turned so many people off cycling in the US and EU Drop bars are uncomfortable (lots of hand positions, all of them awful), and their controls are awkward I've been riding for decades and I never understood the fascination with them I mean they do look amazingly cool, but they're bad for everyone except racers Comment from : Dustin Driver |
works great very happy with it Comment from : mrsverdin10 |

Jesus Christ save me Comment from : oov55 |

No mention of pedal types, namely that some road bikes have cleat-type pedals requiring special shoes (I'm a huge fan of these, but they are scary at first) Prior to that, toe-clips allowed a modicum of 'pull' on the 'upstroke' Some folks will hate both of these Comment from : Maurice Gold |
Crushing eggs was not necessary Comment from : goksonline87 |
waste of eggs😔😔 Comment from : Shumair |
To me flatbar is more comfortable to ride around town ,i aint a pro rider so does not make sense for to get a dropbar Comment from : Mehdiuniversal |
Bullhorn all the way! Comment from : Devonne Simpson |
Another tiny point to consider I'm a tiny-ass transguy, and flat bar feels too wide for me And when I go a bit faster and instinctively lower my torso, it's like my arms are frozen in the middle of an inverted bench press (not as bad as in the middle of push up, but still pretty bad), which is uncomfortable Comment from : Kaworu Nagisa |
Modern drop bars suck I said it, and I don't regret it I have a 50 year old bike with drop bars, it has two sets of brakes depending on where your hands are Modern drop bars only have one set of breaks on the drop bar The amount of times I have nearly crashed because of that is more than I'd like to admit Comment from : David B |

Drop bar gives me sore fingers Comment from : Prince |
I ditched my mountain bike for a road bike a couple of years ago and I am not one bit sorry I struggled initially especially climbing but I found by repeating familiar daunting climbs I became stronger and once I got used to clipless pedals it vastly improved my climbing Climbing something like 9 became an accomplishment The feeling you get when you get to the top of a climb you struggle is not of relief but exhilaration Now when I see new climbs I want to try them rather than avoid them Comment from : Cathal Kenneally |
For the flat bar, for speed, what i do is hold my hand so my thumb is past the end of the grip, and the rest of my hand is on the grip, and I keep my elbows down It helps Comment from : sid |
So on the drop bars you can put your hands on "the tops", but on the flat bars you cannot?! What a joke! brIt smells like fanaticism regarding drop bars Drop bars everywhere Comment from : Masay Lee |
11:51 the "green" bike's fork looks like it was bending forwards/backwards Is it supposed to do that? THANKS!! PS LOVE that flatbar Cube Would love it even more with an Alfine 11 and a belt drive Comment from : Eric Horchuck |

The drop bars were invented for speed Ergo Comment from : TheAnimeist |
