agreed about the fridges and aircons, i was driving along once and saw a fridge on the side of the road, someone had left it out for some roaming scrap man to pick up, anyway next day i drove by again, and the fridge had been turned around and the copper at the bottom had been cut off and they had left the fridge, and you can't help but wonder was it worth letting all those gases out into the environment for what must have been at max £10 of copper

With jumper cables, the older ones usually have better wires inside and the really old ones might even have solid copper clamps instead of the common copper plated steel clamps

Bellwether Trucking
Fun story: A couple came in to my local scrap yard with a very large "piece of aluminum" to sell The yard workers got curious because it wasn't aluminum, but rather machined titanium The yard manager asked the guy "where do you work?" The guy told him the factory he worked at, so he called the shop and asked them if they were missing a titanium shroud and they were The couple were arrested and the part they stole cost $28,000 Not because of the titanium, but how much it costs to machine a chunk that big😂

I used to have those channel locks, but ever since getting the "Robo grip" from Ridgid, I've never looked back The notch in the Rigids aren't as deep, but the extra torque from the "robo" part more than makes up for itbrIf you get a chance, check them out

Kenny Davis
Excellent video but the part about stainless steele being non magnetic was wrong SS actually has different grades The higher grade doesn't stick to a magnet nor does it rust but there is some SS that a magnet will stick to and it will rust it also pays less

Skerries Rock Art Ireland
What about computer servers? there is some weight in thisare they going to be of interest to a scrap yard?
Comment from : Skerries Rock Art Ireland

casm
28:14 No, you make quite a lot from Air Conditioners And as for the freon, there are ways to recover coolants from them (which you can also recycle/scrap) But back to how much they make, you get $4 for the fan motor alone, but there's also steel, copper, and brass in many places But where the big money comes from is the coils You do need permits to scrap them, but it's extremely profitablebrbrGranted, I'm lucky, as I just scrap the units as they come in (in various conditions from customers from an AC company that's owned and staffed by family and friends), so I am supplied with tools, the systems to scrap, and the permits, but it's more than enough to make a full time job out of if you can get in a position to get the units and permitsbrbrEdit: this is the US though Specifically Florida, which has some of the highest usage of air conditioning, so I imagine it might not be the same in more northern places in the US and other countries

yellow brass , and brass piping are two different types of brass
Comment from : Paul

Paul
some of the copper you think in some of the electric motors is coated steel wire with copper not worth the time to take apart so I just throw in as the whole weight of the motor which isn't much so I pitch in with my scrap metal or another name is shread
Comment from : Paul

Sam Reed
Great video I'm helping a friend raise some money tomorrow by scraping, so at the last minute I checked out your video Great info I feel like I am a little more prepared than I was 10 minutes ago One thing I wanted to add: Builders use copper for waterlines as do moonshiners for the condensing part of their still all because Copper has anti bacterial properties I can't really expand on that Surely one of you viewers knows more on the subject than I Maybe they can educate us I just know that it does have anti bacterial properties

BE CAREFUL, some scrapyards will cheat your weight Low on purpose!!! It's a fairly common trickI suggest getting a rough weight beforehand, and know what you gotif they smell an amateur, or simply don't like you they Can take advantage Don't think for a second you can "trust" them blindlythey are Not in the business of giving away money with no resistance If they can play dumb, they will
