Taxes in the Us are weird, in that you still have so mùany out-of-pocket expenses left that are covered by tax in other countries (Social security in Europe, for exemple, is mostly paid by taxes, but you don't have to sell your house if you have cancer

I think another issue is at 7:38, is compared to countries with higher tax bills, is the benefit of universal health care Money spent on taxes, premiums and the like combined in the US would equal the UK, or maybe more, and we would get more out of it, vs our current system Also to your point of not seeing the benefits of the money spent, like public roads, subsidies at the gas pump, among others

I live in Canada, it takes me 30 minutes to do my taxes and I check everything twice The Canadian system isn't great, but it's definitely not as stupid as the US system It used to take me a few hours back when I did it on paper but with tax prep software I spend about 15 minutes on entry and another 15 checking all the numbers a second time It would take a bit longer if I was self-employed but it's really just one more form

In the Philippines, if you are employed or belong to the working people, the company, specifically the Human Resource Dept, handles all the filing for their employees But people with companies or businesses, they filed their own taxes but that is mostly handled by the accountant

Government simply means, what we all decide to do together The smaller the gov The easier it is for us to agree The larger the gov The harder it is for us to agree Also inflation is just a hidden tax The gov creates and borrows money to pay for gov Creating inflation Which lowers our paycheck value Along with gov waste and lack of oversite This is why everyone will always hate taxes

It is hard to be happy to pay taxes when you don't see change My taxes go to public roads, so why do I hit 7 potholes on the way to work? My taxes go to schools and education, so why aren't my kids learning about finance and things they need to survive adulthood? Why do my taxes pay for government salaries but they don't listen to me about certain laws that need to be passed or some that are no longer needed?

The main problem in the US is, that through Reaganomics, the amount average people pay in taxes is more than they get from the state in services (While the rich pay too little) In socialdemocratic countries like western Europe, Canada, if you count the numbers, you get more than you pay for So, you had objectively no reason to complain For me, living in Europe, the school system alone: the 300k it cost the state to educate me, I will not pay fully in direct taxes as long as I live So for me, all the other services are free And I have 2 kids, and the 400-600k to educate them, I have not to pay neither

I live in Japan and the auto tax system is applicable if you have a salaried jobbut I did contract work for a year and had to fill out the forms the hard way doing tax forms in a language you can not read it really difficult Granted my American taxes were more complicated

Ugh, this is done so much easier here in Romania: either you work at a company or have a state job (like I do), you get automatically a net salary, which means every month taxes, insurances (health-rent) are already subtracted so you only have to care about your costs of living
